Hi Deej, I need an explanation of the logic:
Green engrams ALWAYS become guns and armor. They NEVER get decrypted into gun parts or armor mats. We dismantle them if we don't want them.
Blue engrams either become guns and armor or Motes or Strange Coins. They NEVER get decrypted into gun parts or armor mats. We dismantle them if we don't want them.
Purples either become guns and armor or ascendant mats. Why the difference? The other engrams don't even have the ability to be decrypted into mats. We don't get the choice to dismantle the item.
I personally LOVE to get different guns and armor with different perks. If I happen to get a gun or armor that has better perks then one I already have, I level it up and dismantle the other. If I have something better I dismantle it. If I need the mats I dismantle it.
I really think this is something Bungie could easily change that would make a lot of us happier.

Agreed. I dont even decrypt purples or post messages for fear of crap mats.

Please fix this. My last 9 Legendary engrams (at least) were all ascendant shards. The drop rate for Legendary engrams is so low anyway it's just a real slap in the face. It's really disheartening and takes away a lot of the joy of getting an engram when you can almost guarantee it's gonna shard. I reckon I've been getting more legendary items from rare engrams than from legendaries...

Majority of the time, the items are trash anyways so we'd be getting materials anyways. Material drops should be a chance item from Rare Engrams, rather than Legendary Engrams.

Yes I think this should be a thing as ALL al the purple engrams I have gotten have turned into mats ... I would pay money for this to happen

Its the opposite for me, all blues turn into what they're supposed to and every MF legendary turns into ascendant energy -
Become legendary bro, use those mats! Lol :)

Edited by SixthSeal: 3/6/2015 5:58:23 PMIt wouldn't be so bad if they gave you more. Like 1 or 2 energies/shards? Why not like 5 or 6? And why are they only ascendant materials, why not radiant materials? Also I think if the engram shows that it is for a particular weapon/armor type, and it needs to be decrypted in order to see what it is, how does it decrypt into something completely different? That doesn't make any sense, from a cryptographical point of view. Why not have another type of Legendary Engram that is an "inventory" engram that can only give inventory-type materials? Or make it so only the class item Legendary Engram can give inventory-type materials.

Bump?

If this isn't implemented then the drop rate should increase for legendary engrams. However, I believe neither will occur.
