Do you guys think hunting is an ok thing to do?
State your reasons in the comments.
Edit: I hunt elk mainly for food and population control if I was threatening a species I would stop. If you hunt for sport state why.
Edit 2: in think the natives had hunting right. Kill for food, don't take too much or populations can't grow, make sure to kill as quick and as painless as possible, and gives thanks to and respect that animal you killed.
Edit 3: thanks for the replies it seems everyone is for it at some level. Some kinds of hunting I hate but doesn't hopefully exist anymore. The killing of hundreds of birds so a rich bitch can wear the plumes is wrong. And the killing of all those bison to weaken the natives was wrong as well. Basically its like clear cutting but with animals.
Who revived this?! I got like 10 new notifications man.

Hunting humans is perfectly fine.
-
I enjoy elk and bear hunting, there are to many bears where I live, so we hunt them to thin down the population. (Legally of course)
-
I hunt for sport, I think it's fun. It's a good way to bond with family
-
I don't see a problem unless the individual in question is violating hunting and wildlife regulations. No different than fishing in my eyes.
-
Man hunter is
-
In some regions people hunt certain animals that they introduced into the enviorment to fix a certain problem ended up making it worse now they hunt these animals for that very reason. i find that when i see somone throw away good food it ticks me of so bad.

Killing quickly and for food and resources=ok Killing just for the fun of it without even bothering to use it for food or resources and/or its an endangered species= kind of douchy.
-
Make sure to follow all rules and actually use the animals you kill
-
The population control thing only exists because humans made it that way. The implication that humans hunting is vital for a sustainable ecosystem is a little ridiculous. That said, hunting for valid reasons isn't too bad, though I would never do it myself.

Hell yea. Food.
-
I hunt for sport and trophies, yeah I'll get the meat processed and eat it sell it whatever but it isn't a bad thing. Now I don't poach, kill endangered species, or make it extremely unfair for the animal but its fun. Anyone who says it isn't fair to shoot a harmless deer grew up weak your balls ain't dropped yet and you don't got a beard like mine. When I said make it unfair for the animal, I meant I don't do stuff like bait it right in front of me or I don't have them in an enclosed space. I'm just silent and waiting like the predator I am.

It's only acceptable when it's the only possible way for you to get your hands on food. However, when you are doing it purely for fun then it's barbaric

Edited by GoodFlunky49562: 3/25/2015 1:32:07 AMLet's get two things straight before I say this. I ain't no tree hugger, and I understand survival of the fittest. Hunters need to understand how valuable life itself is. There is absolutely nothing after it, just like there was nothing before it. "How would you feel if you were hunted for sport and fun?" is where the argument stops because it shows how selfish and inconsiderate hunters actually are, an they can't answer that without realizing how guilty they actually are. It's fine if you kill an animal that has injured and/or killed many others, but if it is harmless like a deer, you should think twice about killing it. "but whenever I hunt, I forget everything good about that animal" is a lame excuse hunters use because if if you forget them, that animal still has harmless and good traits. An animal is another organism just like you trying to survive, but you had to stop it because you're selfish. I'm not saying that animals are more valuable than humans, I'm just saying that you shouldn't kill shît for fun, it's fûcked up.

Yes iv worked with park rangers, animal rescuers and its you civic duty to kill some animals, you can probably find a list or something of introduced species or "pests", its more inhumaine not to kill them

Edited by Pendulate: 3/25/2015 7:00:42 AMFor sport, never. For food, almost never. (If you live in the developed world, never.) For "population control", which is usually just a glorified term for sport hunting, almost never. Wildlife departments manipulate species numbers in the environment to coincide with hunting seasons. The concept of population control is usually just propaganda for the general public.

Do it for food, not for shits and giggles you inbred racist rednecks
-
As long as you utilize everything you can.
-
The circle of life. yes it's fine ,animals kill each other every second. We must preserve endangered species though
-
There are so many dimensions to this that it's impossible to give a definite yes or no answer. For example, the difference between pest control and ivory trade.

Everything has the right to live. Buy your food from a grocery store.

The OP's edits are very commendable. Hunting for food within reason is fine, as long as you show nature respect. When you get into sport hunting and poaching endangered animals it becomes intolerable. Glorifying the killing of animals isn't ok. I can't stand that. Population control is a gray area, but I understand the necessity for it. (It's Hogs Gone Wild here in Texas.)
-
If it's for food then yes but in my opinion it's just malicious to kill anything purely for the joy or sport of it
-
As long as you are not killing endangered animals or going out and killing a whole forest of deer your good
-
It's wrong. I come from a family of hunters, and I personally think that it's dangerous and practically psychotic. 1. It has nothing to do with population control. It is actually aimed towards letting the population grow, so that more deer can be killed in the next few seasons to come. Why is this? Hunters predominantly kill males. 1 male can impregnate multiple females, however, lowering the number of females lowers the availability of mates for males to fertilize. 2. Nature has a course. However, humans are anatomical "scavengers" and meat isn't needed to survive. In fact, since we eat it in such outrageous amounts, it is linked to heart disease, and cancer. We don't have to hunt to survive. There might be a few people out in remote areas that do, but not us. Non-human animals are wonderful creatures that deserve the right to live. The only problem we face is getting over ourselves in order to overcome it.

You don't need meat for food. You don't have to kill animals for population control, nature can handle it for itself.
