This is an excellent thread on Waypoint that has comparisons of Halo 4 weapons compared to previous recent iterations.
Now, we all know about Frankie's quote ages ago:

1. Go into the thread, see the Covenant comparisons.
2. Also look at the renders on Halo Waypoint/Halo 4

The best comparison is the Carbine.
Is this similar to the Green Separatist Phantoms we saw in Halo 3? Is this Covenant organization changed its color configuration because they oppose the normal Covenant?
Also, the Storm Rifle is the replacement for the Plasma Rifle, and it is blue. Edit: It appears Purple, but that could be an exception.
There is also a Grunt called the Storm Grunt, alluding to weather/rain/lightning related names.

Before Reach, the DMR was being phased out. By Halo Reach, the army was the only branch left where it was still active. I personally would have still liked to be Covenant in Halo 4, but not the way they are. I'd like to see all the different factions from each race. Hell we MIGHT have had Elite allies (if Glasslands didn't portray most Elites as wanting humans dead), and then we would have had Elites in MP canonically. [Edited on 06.24.2012 10:31 PM PDT]
