Balancing too generalized.

Weapon balancing in Destiny has been way to generalized. Balancing entire classes of weapons has rotated the most powerful weapons time and time again. While all pulse rifles needed a buff, all auto rifles didn't need a nerf. The auto-rifles don't feel nearly as effective in pvp and aren't worth using when pulse rifles are so powerful. The Vex Mythoclast is still a contender but now weapons like Shadow Price and Aetheons epilogue are just plain bad. The Last Word is still too powerful and thorn users aren't missing their two head shots; other hand cannons feel sub-par now because they didn't need to be nerfed to begin with. Fusion rifles seem to be somewhat less effective at larger ranges now unless you go up against a Pocket Infinity. I am still witnessing Pocket Infinity users dominate games because they fire so rapidly its almost impossible to miss. The point is that these weapons are popular for a variety of reasons. Nerfing the entire class of weapons because a few of the weapons make up a large percentage of the total usage completely ignores the minority weapons that will be effected. My favorite auto-rifle was Grim Citizen III and now it is completely outclassed by most weapons I find myself up against. I can't use it in most direct engagements anymore. Had only the most popular weapons been nerfed, even if only slightly, then the overall weapon choice would spread out more. If most players like auto-rifles, why force them to use other weapons? Pulse rifles did need a buff to compensate for their lack of effectiveness in pvp but now they have few weapons that compete with them. The strangers rifle has taken the place of Suros Regime, Shadow Price, and the Vex Mythoclast as an arguably over powered weapon. Thorn and The Last Word feel like they haven't been touched. Many players want to use the most efficient weapons. These balancing decisions just shift players to the new most-powerful-weapons. With so many different weapons with varying stats, upgrades, and modifications, how can these changes be a sound decision. I personally prefer scout rifles and pulse rifles. I originally sought out Suros Regime and Thorn because they were so much better than other weapons; I was proven right from the moment I used them with their most important upgrades. I was no longer dying because my DPS was too low compared players who already had these weapons. If I want optimal pvp gear then I have switch weapons because my DPS is once again too low. I know this is another cookie cutter butt-hurt rant about nerfing weapons but it's frustrating when players see weapons that have a clear advantage and the nerf hits every weapon in that class instead of just the ones that are too strong. In ratio, those previously overpowered weapons are still the best ones for their weapon classes by a large margin. What are everyones opinions? Am I diluted into thinking auto-rifles no longer stand a chance against many other weapons? P.S. I know some of the auto rifles still stand a slight chance at mid-range.

  • Good comments. Not sure I agree with all of it, but I agree it could use some deeper digging on Bungie's part. I'm an ex Suros user. I'm a current Thorn / Hawkmoon user. I'm playing around with Red Death. Thorn / Hawkmoon feel no different to me in PvP. Red Death is GREAT now. Still has a slightly slower TTK than Thorn/Hawkmoon, but the heal and reload makes it worth it on some maps and gametypes I'm finding. I'm scared to even try Suros out now :)
