I think I realize why Destiny's story fell flat for most people

In any sort of game like this, where they want it to be a large build up for a large enemy, you can't just throw it all at the final boss and off handedly mention the main boss for the original installment. But that's what bungie did. It's debatable whether the main evil was the black heart or atheon, but whichever it would be we just fight them with no real knowledge of why. There needs to be a hatred brewed into us, and tossing us back and forth from enemy to enemy didn't accomplish that. We hate the Fallen because they attack the tower, we hate the hive because they want to take over the earth, we hate the vex because they hate everyone, and we hate the cabal because they're a strong military. That's the impression you get simply from what's given, but it all goes much deeper than that. I'm not saying destiny is a bad game, I'm not saying it doesn't have a fantastic story, I'm not saying bungie ripped us off. I'm not saying anything like that. I'm just saying they went about telling the story in a poor manner, but it really feels like they're learning as they go. If you love the game now, then great I expect it will only make you happy. If you dislike it and play on and off, then make sure you come back because I'm confident the story telling will improve. And if you hate the game and will never be willing to give it another chance, then that's your decision but please just leave your poison out of the forums. edit 1 Good to see there's more than a few people that agree, destiny has a great underlying story, it's just poorly implemented. edit 2 In regards to the many who claim the lead writer left months/weeks/days before the release. Think about what you just said. They can't change a story that soon, he likely left because he didn't like the way they went about telling the story. He wanted a visual experience, as was said early on, they wanted a more cryptic gear driven story, and they did a good job at that in some aspects, but failed in more. Listen if you don't think there's a story it's because you're refusing to open your eyes and read the cards. I'm not saying that you should have to read them to get the story, you shouldn't, you should however have to read them to understand the finer details. I'm AnonPig, I write posts explaining the cards, I formulate, with the help of my fantastic clan, the most logical conclusions to where the story has been and where it will go. If you have any questions on the story, ask me I LOVE to talk about it. But don't just come here and go "there's no story pffffttt" because I don't want to hear your lazy excuses. I'm sorry for being an ass, but it's not worth the bump.

 • I think everyone misses the point. Become Legend. The way I see that is to blaze your own path and find a way to become legend. If there was a definitive start/end story then everyone would be the same, and have seen all the same. I think their goal was to create the grimoire to showcase certain mysterious tales and lore that all let you use your imagination about past guardian legends, and at the same time unlocking more and more grim cards you're supposedly writing your own. I guess a for instance would be if you went into someone's grim and they had over 10000 Rumble wins, well, they'd be a legend from the Rumble arena. Same goes for PvE, some people have cleared an ungodly amount of raids, makes them a legend in their own right. Is it repetitive? Yes. But I think that was the point of not having a start/end story, becoming legend, not, killing a final boss.
