Origin: Chapter 2, Part 2

Origin: Chapter 2 Part 2 Gaia floated towards the ship and vanished inside it. After a couple seconds, she re-appeared. “Anything?” Velox asked. “Yes. The titan was investigating a previously unknown programming of Vex located only in this region of Mars. He was trying to figure out if they had some kind of connection to the spike in void activity.” “What do you mean by programming? Are there different kinds of Vex?” “Of course there are different kinds of Vex. There are the hezen corrective, hezen protective, sol divisive, vergo prohibition and…..” “Alright I get the point, but what is the difference?” “It has to do with their programming. The different programs have different purposes. For instance, the Virgo Prohibition program is dedicated to fighting the cabal here on mars. They are all Vex but they serve different purposes.” “Any idea what the purpose of this new program is?” “Unclear. His findings were inconclusive. He tracked their source to a nearby cave system and his last logs indicated that he was going to venture into the cave and try to find where they were coming from. After that, it just ends. It’s the most likely place we will find his body and his ghost.” “Agreed. Alright let’s get to the cave.” “Wait. Unknown activity detected. Vex teleportation signature identified. Short range. ETA ten seconds.” “Shit!” Gaia evaporated and tucked herself away inside Velox’s armor. She turned and jumped behind the corner of the ship, aiming towards the now dark forming cloud. As she awaited the arrival of the Vex, she noticed that instead of the arc energy that powered the Vex clouds, this one seemed to be powered by void energy. The cloud had been visible for only three seconds when a multitude of vex appeared out of thin air. Velox opened fire with her scout rifle hitting the first goblin in its abdomen and was surprised when a purple shimmer appeared around it. She had never seen a goblin with a shield before and, after another three shots, ducked behind the ship as a hail of rounds ricocheted off the corner of the hull. She activated her camouflage and sprinted to a rock just outside the camp. Just before she reached it, she spun around and tossed a seeker grenade into the cluster of Vex. She slid behind the rock and aimed down her sights. After a full magazine only two goblins remained. “Another Vex teleportation signature detected! It’s larger than the last one.” Another wave of Vex teleported where the first had been only seconds before. This time there were at least ten goblins, three hobgoblins, and an axis minotaur. They immediately began firing on her location, forcing her to take cover behind the rock. The torch hammer of the minotaur was relentless and gave her no chance to return fire without getting injured. Closing in on her location, their fire intensified. Her camouflage recharge was only at fifty percent. The Vex would be on her in a few brief moments. “Gaia! Send out a distress call on all stations!” Velox screamed wincing at the intense heat from the torch hammer rounds exploding only a few feet away. “I’m trying but something is blocking the signal.” The ghost said looking around frantically as if searching for an open line of communication in the air. A whirring sound came from somewhere above her. Suddenly, a torrent of purple tracers flashed over her head. She looked on the side of the mountain and saw a figure standing at the entrance of a small cave. Unexpectedly, something small appeared in front of her. She realized it was a ghost but it was different. The normal white coloring was replaced by a dark grey with thin red lines running along the edges of its body. It looked first at her and then hovered to the side of the rock to look at the advancing vex. It ducked back behind the rock and looked at her again. “Time to go.” It said. Without warning, her vision flashed white. She was now on the inside of a cave. Momentarily disoriented, she looked around and found the entrance. The figure was standing about twenty feet from her holding a weapon she had never seen before. It was enormous, nearly half the size of the person holding it. She realized that it was a gatling gun. The sound was deafening and for a moment, she stood motionless. Her wits returned to her and she got to her feet. She sprinted to the side of the stranger and took out her sniper rifle. The Vex were scattered and quickly being cut down by the stranger’s torrent of bullets. After another few seconds, the last goblin fell in a smoking heap of twisted metal. She reloaded her sniper and watched as a third dark cloud formed. She glanced to her right at the stranger. He was huge standing well over seven feet tall, clad in heavy thick armor with a white, snow caked cloak. A rush of wind and something appeared in the dark cloud. It was small, only a little larger than a goblin but it was fast. It teleported almost instantly and Velox saw it out of the corner of her eye. She wheeled left trying to train her sights on it. Just as it was coming into view, an iron claw gripped her shoulder. Her vision went white and then a sense of unease washed over her. Hope you guys enjoyed chapter 2!
