Xur is there to help casuals and those that can't put 1000 hours into play or can be bothered to find helpful respectful players to do nightfalls and raid. He serves a purpose. Ignore him if you like. Then you don't have to worry how others get their gear. The exotics rarity have no bearing on game play for PVE and you should welcome the competition in PvP. And then there's Thorn. Probably still pretty rare...compariyively speaking..
