Trying to become Sword bearer. Tips?

So to start off I have a 32 warlock and a 31 Titan and 31 hunter... I like to use my Titan for almost anything but I seen people do sword a bunch of times but it does seem hard since the whole team realizes on him. But I want to get advise on what character I should use or what sword combo and what should I tell my team.

  • As people have stated already most people will say hunter is the best but in reality it doesn't matter. I run the sword all the time and I just got rid of my hunter to make an additional titan character to go along with my 1 warlock. A lvl 32 sword runner can get Crota killed in 2 swords on normal Lvl if everyone does it correctly. Being a lvl 31 will take another sword run just because of the reduced damage. On hard mode I wouldn't attempt running the sword on a lvl 31. Crota will enrage well before you can kill him. Also for the best results do 3 r2 hits everytime you get up there. If you miss one time and only get two hits on the next run you can make it up and hit 4 times if timed correctly. If you have a good group to run it with and get your timing down well Crota will be no problem

    • Ok, pro sword bearer here... Im the guy that my team puts on the spot every time to run sword. Yes, hunters are the best, but not for the reason you might expect. It's best in agility aspects. With both a titan and warlock jumps are long and drawn out, hunter jumps is quite literally a jump, no jet pack or glide involved. And if you have the tireless strides boots on you have an extra agility boost. What I suggest is to simply try try again. Relying on invisibility is bad. I rarely use invis because I practiced enough to know when a good time to move from place to place is. Example. One of the only times I use invisibility is when my team is taking down the sword bearer I will use blade dancer to invis and grab the sword. I hide behind the right platform pillar, wait a few seconds then sprint out, slide and invis. I grab the sword and run to the right side rocks. I usually jump up to the actual platform and just hide the majority of my character using the platforms curve. I watch his shield I run up and slide into a ground smash (always ground smash, easy math which I'll explain later) hit 3 times and run back to rocks. Crota will aggro on you for a few seconds but if you crouch and stay as far out of sight as possible he will turn back towards the main group. Back up to the platform and slide into another three hits. Jump (as fast as you possibly can) off the middle platform and sword swing to the right towards the steps. Don't walk up the steps but jump from the bottom corner to the top corner and jump into the safe room (or cloak if you can, boomers suck butt here). Rinse and repeat. I'm assuming you mean hard mode (but practice in normal first) so it takes 18 ground smashes. 3+3 for one run. Which equals three swords and your team has to drop him twice each run. He will enrage after 15 hits but don't rush it (trust me, you'll want to but you have to ignore the urge) just run back to the rocks and give your team a chance to drop him. Then finish him with three more hits. Fifteen hits is the first sword run after ogres. The sword bearer will occasionally move to the far left or right. Your team can't hit him and that cost precious time so immediately find him and put in a few shots so he'll rush you. And go back into the middle. This is also a situation in which using your heavy ammo may be necessary.

    • on hard mode the hunter has the advantage, that does not mean a warlock or titan is not capable. try it on normal to get the feel for it and make sure your team is communicating well(this is key). best bet is to grab the sword and get into position then give the word to the team to light him up and take his shield down. jump up right as you call it and all is good. Watch crota go down then you will know how many hits you can give him before you have to roll.........practice and it will come......look me up on reset day and I can get you a team of guys who can make it as safe and easy as possible. we have 3 manned him on normal many times on first run.

      • Most people would say that Hunter is the best class for swordbearer, because after the first attack, you can just knife him and go invisible, making it easier to down him again. Ground smashing is probably better for doing the most damage, but people debate over that.
