I was inspecting some Crota's End weapons, and saw the name of a perk that disorients Wizards. Lich's Bane. Necromancer's bane sounds like it would be more accurate. Hive are dead, and don't Wizards like Omnigul raise the spawn, raise the dead like a Necromancer?
What is a Lich? you may ask. A Lich is a wizard or warlock who has cheated death by turning themselves into an undead abomination. Wizard. Warlock. The hive are already dead though. Why would they seek to cheat death? Maybe a Hive didn't. Maybe a warlock did. Maybe the hive are dead guardians.
What's similar to a Wizard? Warlock. That's obvious.
What's similar to an Ogre? Well, it would have to be a Titan. Both can be described as the tanks of their respective biological arsenals, plus Ogres can do a ground pound like Titans.
What's similar to a Knight? Hunters. Both of these carry around a blade, made even better by the fact that their weapons are rarely referred to as swords, always blades. Plus, the Mask of the Third Man resembles a Knight's face.
What are Acolytes and Thralls? Perhaps the long dead. Perhaps those who lived who are not guardians.
Who is Crota? He is a god. A dead god. A dead god looms over the city. Crota is the spirit of the Traveller. Another theory states that the cracked orb behind Crota is a broken Traveller, or from the same species. The fact that the player blows up an orb on The Shrine of Oryx is an effigy of Oryx. However, Crota appears to be a ghost/skeleton mishmash. This indicates that he is dead. The crystal in the summoning room and The awakening is Crota's phylactery. This makes sense, since Crota's soul appears to be summoned from it in The Wakening. Ergo, Crota is the spirit of the Traveller.
This theory is backed up in the Warlock 2 Grimoire card. A wizard says to a Warlock that they aren't very different.
So Ogres are Thralls. But are Thralls Ogres? It's like sort of like the geometry concept that all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. Let's have another parallel. All guardians are human(ish)s. But not all human(ish)s are guardians. The Thralls are people that aren't guardians, the Ogres are those that chose to be Titans, some posthumously.
A parallel/comparison for this theory would be the Reaper's indoctrination in Mass Effect. They use humans to make a Reaper, but they aren't humans. It's like how all the Reapers look like Leviathans and are based off/created from Leviathans. Were the Reapers always Leviathans? No. Are they Leviathans now? Sort of. They're twisted versions. Corrupted.
The Hive are dead guardians.

Since when was it said that the Hive are an undead race? Pretty sure they're just aliens like everything else. Also, I think it's said that Ogres are just thrall, or some other Hive race, experimented on. And with Knights being Hunters... Well now you're just grabbing at anything.

Half Life 3 confirmed

It says in the grimoire ogres are disformed thrall
-
Acolyte has 6 letters in it. 6. 6 divided by 2 is 3. 3 6's is 666. 666 is satans pin number. Hive worship satan. Who else worships satan? Illuminati worship satan. Wizard also has 6 letters. 6 divided by 2 is 3. Triangles have 3 sides. The Illuminati's symbol is a triangle. HIVE IS ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
-
Oh yea, and guardians are already dead haha, revived by our ghosts.
-
This theory seems really cool and pretty legit, but if you look more into the grimior the only hole I can see is that ogres and thrall are the same thing. Ogres are thrall that are mutated into an abomination. So that just kinda takes out the Titan part. But I have definitely speculated similar theories. And it's true that the Hive are space zombies, they have been rendered to that since before release though.
-
Here's a flaw in that theory. Thrall are the lowest ranking members of the Hive. They do however, evolve. Wizards conduct rituals in Thrall which turns them into Ogres. Notice the similarities between the two. This is also known on Acolytes. Acolytes evolve either into a Wizard or a Knight. I do not know how it is decided, nor how it happens.

interesting also heard Eris the other day make a comment something to the effect of, "What if Crota had brothers, sisters, I never thought of that!"

We ARE the walking dead.
-
Wow. Bump.

-
If the hive are former guardians, thralls were the ones spamming invites at the tower.
-
Not sure how definitive it is, but dinklebot refers to the first room you encounter the hive in as a "breeding pit" implying they are born. Also, when omnigul summons hive it makes the same sound as their tomb ships teleporting in, implying that they are brought in from elsewhere rather than raised up. Toland is curious how Ir Yût can sing her song without being killed herself which would imply that he believes they are alive in the conventional sense. They are meant to resemble an undead/zombie army, but I do not think they are actually undead. Interesting theory though.
-
How about this one? The hive are not dead guardians.
-
Cool sounding theory, but aren't we already dead? The Ghosty-goo reanimated us, kinda like a necromancer. :P
-
Guardians are dead guardians....
-
Wow so terrifying
-
Well if you keep reading the grimoire about ogres, you'll fine out that ogres are the same as a thrall. Ogres however have been mutated in grotesque form. I mean they basically look the same.
-
What if all the times we wipe on a raid creates hive enemies?
-
Cool theory. But I have one small thing. The Leviathans created the reapers. Because they created the Reapers the created them in their own image. Much like the Quarians created the Geth to look like them. Once the Reapers became self aware all hell broke loose.

Where do you find the Warlock 2 grimoire card?
