Justify RNG in Destiny
Who, among this community, thinks RNG is a good system for this game? How it rewards players based on nothing but random numbers spit out, rather than skill.
My ideal system would be still be rng based, but slightly more tailored to skill or performance than pure luck.
No matter what choice you make above, explain yourself in the comments, include what you chose if you can. I'm interested to see the explanations for why its a good system.

It's a crappy system and the only reason it's in place is so players spend hours trying to get that 1 thing they're missing.

The system works well here, it keeps items rare while discouraging obsessive play with weekly limits. Yeah it can suck when the bottom crucible player gets an exotic but the crucible has to be random because in the best case the best players would just get better and better drops and use those drops to win more matches and in the worst case the crucible would be nothing but rumble boost farming.

rng is not a reward, its the game. You got x weapon, now what can you do with it? I like the challenge but if you look at the forum I might be in the minority.

This loot system is set up in a manner in which you become addicted to playing. They feed you exotics and legendaries slowly, so that you don't become discouraged by the game. I get droughts were I'll go weeks without getting anything worthwhile, and then one week I receive two or three exotics in a row. This happens to most players and that's meant to encourage them to keep playing. People who are at the bottom of the scoreboard are more likely to get an exotic because the people who are running Bungie and Activision know that when players lose a match they become discoured and stop playing. They have to reward them something every now and then so they don't lose these players.

It's a chaotic system outside of the raid... And no, I don't like the system. No defined method means no defined goals. Just go ahead aimlessly and eventually, maybe, something could potentially pop up. Yay -.-

RNG is good way to extend playtime and plus it makes gettings legendaries and exotics that much more exciting

7 RepliesRNG is fine... as long as there are alternative routes to obtaining drops. Which in Destiny there practically is not. Exotic bounties are a great idea but in practice there aren't enough of them, and their exotics are only obtainable through them. Xur is kind of like this games mystery vendor, once in a while carrrying something you give a crap about. And thats it. Only 2 ways of obtaining exotics, not through rng.

I don't mind the randomness of it I just wish the higher the kills, the higher the chance to get a good weapon

1 ReplyMy proposal is this; once you complete a nightfall or weekly, and get a reward you don't like or have already, you get the option to re-do the mission again, losing your unwanted reward and get another chance to get something you hopefully prefer. Once.

I don't care that much. I think RNG makes it a little like gambling which can be equally awesome and depressing. It's a video game so nothing to get upset over. I enjoy Destiny very much overall.

There are a few things I'd change, like strike afk'ers getting exotics, and I'd like the top performers in crucible to earn marks slightly quicker, and maybe an extra loot roll chance for the top scorers. Basically, still give everyone that tries a chance at loot, but have a little incentive to perform well.

1 ReplyIf you play the game a lot it dishes out exotics pretty regularly. Not everyone should have every weapon and armor so chance is fine. If you never got any drop in the game you can still buy legendary's that are good enough to play any of the content. I think it is fine i dont need to have everything handed to me like so many of these crybabies.
