PS4 Headset/Mic advice. Lots of issues. Halp!

Okay, well maybe not LOTS of issues, but I'm finding more and more that my request in what I'm looking for is very specific and apparently most people do not agree with me. That being said, let me begin. Bear with me. Since purchasing a PS4 I've always used the earbud/mic that came with it. It works perfectly for me as it provides isolated voice chat in the earbud while the game sounds come through my TV. I like them separate. I also like that it is simply wired to the controller and requires no extra charging. The controllers die fast enough as it is. (Edit: Wireless bluetooth headsets would be okay if they were something small like for cell phones that lasted) Problem is that I have to keep my TV extremely low in order for others not to hear my game sounds echoing into the mic. This has been consistent between multiple TV's, and multiple distances from said TV's. So let's take this a step further in the realm of solutions. First challenge, to find a WIRED set that plugs directly into the controller. Anyone have some simply solution for this? I've tried the iPhone earbuds and they work, but the mono audio comes out the opposite ear of the mic making it awkward. (Edit: Before you suggest just using other basic sets of earbuds like Skullcandy, etc, please continue to read as there are other conditions.) Now this ties right into problem number 2, because I do not believe that any cheap earbud sets are going to be effective at not picking up the TV audio. I don't have an issue with spending more on a higher quality mic to prevent this, but everything I seem to find as quality increases are full sets of headphones with mic. Boom, right away problem number 3! I don't want a mix! I want isolated chat in my ear and game sounds from the TV, and full sets of headphones will not allow this. Am I insane here? Am I just looking in the wrong direction? There are thousands of mono, voice only headsets out there, but none work for the PS4? I've tried Bluetooth headsets and no luck, and it doesn't seem there is a market for gamers who want these since most people are apparently okay with just having their chat and game sound in their headset mixed. Ugh. Anyone here with advice I'm open to suggestions, and if anything is unclear please just ask and I will clarify. It's early and I'm frustrated so hopefully this all made some level of sense. Thanks in advance, Guardians. Edit: Thinking of trying this headset even though it's cheap, just based on reviews of XBone owners who say their stock set is similar to this and is better at not picking up their TV audio - http://goo.gl/YmWlBX Edit: Scratch the cheap-o Amazon set I linked above. So far top suggestion is the TURTLE BEACH P4C. These look solid, reputable company, wired, and should offer a far superior mic. Edit: If I can't end up with a pair of the Turtle Beach P4C locally today, has anyone seen this next option? Sold in the UK but I'm sure they would still ship here and looks like EXACTLY what I was looking for from the start. I'm willing to go with the P4C's first since they're likely higher quality, but here's the link for you guys - http://goo.gl/4AYDeq TLDR: Wired to controller preferred. No need for high quality audio headphones, as my focus is on wanting chat audio ONLY to be in my ear while leaving game sounds from the TV. All this while having a quality mic that will not pick up so much of the TV noise to where my teammates can hear it. (And yes my TV is on very low and sit a reasonable distance from it, but the stock PS4 earbud picks up EVERYTHING) SOLUTION!!!: The Turtle Beach P4C set picked up today is PERFECT. Extremely comfortable, plugs right into my controller, and am able to have my TV at reasonable volume with none of my friends over party chat being able to hear a thing. No mix of voice and game sound in the headset either.

I use Skullcandy SLYR. It is wired, can be plugged directly into the ps4 usb. Really good sound quality, good mixer (yes I know you don't want one, but it is on it anyways), and has great audio noise canceling for background audio. Mix that with the ps4 ability to only play chat through the headset, and you are good to go. Retails around $80 USD Edit: the cable is approx 10 feet.... or close to it

    • Dude- forget those ideas. Get a pair of the Sony PSN Gold wireless headphones in either black or white for $99. With the free headphone app on PS4 and the free Destiny profile - you get 7.1 surround with very decent charge retention (I usually get over 3 hours) and the mic is built into the ear portion with separate volume for chat and game. You can tone down the game sound and ramp up the chat if you like. The sound is really good. They do make a model above it but I am not sure it is worth it. It may be more durable. Don't drop the Gold - it will break as it is very plastic. I keep mine in a safe place and it charges overnight so there shouldn't be a problem. No USB cable needed - you just plug the USB receiver in the front and there you go. So you know - I don't work for Sony and don't sell these headphones at the store I work at.

Also you are able to adjust your voice chat vs game noise tru parameters! Took me a couple weeks before I found that option

The problem of audio from your TV getting into your microphone is called feedback and you are stuck with it as long as you insist on this kind of set-up. You are asking for a microphone not to pick up audio, which it is designed to do. You can get microphones that are effective at noise cancelling - they won't pick up anything but voice or beyond a few feet, so you may get an effective balance with the right one, but it will likely cost you money. If you still want to go with TV sound, ditch the cheap Sony earbud and search for a quality Bluetooth set. My first Sony bluetooth sets picked up laundry drying in the next room through a closed door, while my later Sony full headsets with faux surround sound did a much more effective job of noise cancellation. I like having a good headset going since the days of sound-whoring in COD, so I have been getting progressively better and more expensive headsets each time. I have been using a set of Turtle Beach PX4s (not the greatest, but decent) since I got my PS4 and they are a decent wireless set with a battery that lasts though long gaming sessions easily.

          • Most nice headphones with a mic cable will work. I used my beats for awhile. Sound was great. I guess I was a little quiet in the ears of my teammates but it wasn't a problem.

          • Hold the ps button and change headset settings to chat only Then all audio will continue through your tv and chat will be. In your ears with ANY headset

            • I would go with either turtle beach stealth 400 or skull candy plyr 1. Can't go wrong with either. Both totally wireless, the skull candy is a bit more expensive but has Dolby 7.1 surround sound.

              • I have the official PS4 headset. Which you can download a small app for on the PS4. The app makes Destiny sound even better.

Had the same issues, so in the end I just bought a Tritton Ax PRO headset. This way I don't have my fiancé moaning about the game sounds and I get amazing 5.1 surround sound and full game sound/ chat sound independent volume controls. The only downside is the mass of cables and the DAC box, but I just run them neatly behind my ps4/tv.

                • Slightly off topic. is there a way to adjust in game voice compared to game sound in your headphones. I can do it with party chat but I see no settings for fire team chat.

                  • I use Turtle Beaches and they work well. Never had complaints about them picking up the TV, and I sit close enough I can kick my TV, literally. ( yes, it's happened) As for mixed audio, that's an easy fix. Go to settings, devices, then change the output to chat only instead of all.

                    • Try the afterglow headsets. Here is why. They won't activate unless your actually talking. You can change settings on your PS4 sound only chat comes through the headset and game goes through the tv. The downside of not having to gameplay come through the headset is lower sound quality. My X12's allow me to hear the sounds that chests and materials make. If you think that isn't such a big deal well it is. I went from 60-70 per hour to 90-100 per hour. I understand why you like the sound of tv instead of headsets, but once you start to use headsets you will get use to having get and sound both run through the headset. You can adjust very easily the game sound vs chat. I for one have game a quarter of the volume and chat always maxed. When your chatting with other game sound isn't as important as to communicate with others.

Also doesnt seem to significantly reduce the Controllers Battery time (not that ive noticed...).

                            • I wish you luck.... I do find it distracting when I could here the game sounds from other folks tvs or audio systems, as there is a slight delay. I don't know how you'll fix this, but it will be interesting to see.

                              • I don't really understand what your problem is with mixed game sound and chat (genuine question). You will be able to balance them so that the chat volume is correct in comparison with game sounds. Personally I use the Sony wireless headset for PS4, and I have the game sounds relatively low in comparison with the chat volume overlaid and it works a treat!
