Will our hard earned Legendary, Raid, and Exotic weapons go out of date?

Alright, so there is new gear coming with the upcoming expansions. From what I've seen around, it'll be a higher attack and defence ratings than current exotic, legendaary, and raid gear. Is there any possibility that this isn't true, or that these weapons and armor will possibly be able to be raised past their old limits, to match the current spec? While this won't have any effect in (non Iron banner) Crucible, not much of a Crucible fan. Personally, I'm in love with my Fatebringer, and hate to see it go out of date for new higher level activities. What do other people know of think on this subject? Bonus points if a Bungie employee could possibly answer these questions in the near future (or someone direct me to where they may have already). EDIT: I personally believe you should allow or make a way for older Legendary+ weapons and armor to scale. One complaint I constantly see about this game (among many other MMOs) is that a lot of the time your shoehorned into getting the most recent gear.. rather than having the ability to customize yourself as you chose... which is one thing you guys at bungie talked about while making and advertising Destiny. EDIT 2: As far as I've seen with the new weapons, they are entirely in line balance wise with current weapons. Same number of perks even if there is a few new ones, and like the Vex raid weapons, if they have more than normal they're raid specific. If I was to pit a player with The Word of Crota, vs a player with Fatebringer against each other in the crucible, in theory they'd have an equal chance, neither gun is really better than the other. Play through the whole game all the way up to lv 30, neither gun will really be better than the other beyond where their perks and abilities shine most.. but the second you get higher than 30, you'll need to use Word of Crota, or your losing out, and despite preference. Why take this balance so far, just to lock out great options at the very end? Why can't we as Guardians decide on our weapons that will get us through thick and thin, rather than having to follow the latest fashion if we want to keep up? Give us a way to update the weapons to remain competitive in High Level play. The other route will only lead to sad players who have to eventually toss their hard earned loot in the trash. If you let us keep our weapons and armor in high level play, we truly can build our own Guardians. Weren't you guys talking about letting us make our own story? Don't be like every other MMO, be better. Increase player choice and customization, don't choose our load outs for us.

  • Frm my understanding, legendaries will not be buffable but Exotics will be able to go above 300. So grinding to 30 is kind of a hollow victory. We need the gear to match the Crota normal raid of lvl30 but any gear drops from that raid will necessitate a change.

  • They should add vanity slots where you can equip other armor JUST for the looks and another for your stats. Wouldn't be hard, wink wink BUNGIE!

  • Exotics? Yes...but they'll be upgradable to the new light level. Lengendaries? Yes. Raid? Yes. But they'll be good enough to get us started in the new raid, while were earning the gear necessary to make it to the new level cap.

  • I hope that in the future we are able to buy weapons and armor useing a token we get from defeating raid bosses. Would be cool if they made a shard. That cost the same amount as tbe new raid armor. But would boost your guns and armor to be current level.

  • Read the update. Our exotic weapons and armor will be up-gradable beyond their current standings. There's no mention of our legionaries though, which make sense. If you could upgrade your current armor (raid set) to be on par with level 32, what would be the point of the new raid? The idea is to keep people playing and pushing the game forward. It would be nice to have additional customization by using different armor pieces to achieve you characters own look though.

    • I sincerely hope everything doesn't become out dated :( That would suck. Especially for armour hard earned in hard raids.

    • If you watch the video "Developing the Dark Below" you'll see the new exotics with a base attack rating of 300 and a max rating of probably 331. I'm hoping that bungie will give you the ability to upgrade your exotics to the new max level but, I kinda doubt it. It's the MMO way to grind your but off to get the best gear, only to have the developer release new and improved better gear.... for you to grind your but off for.

Legendaries (including raid) will make for lovely hood ornaments or upgrade materials. Exotics will stay relevant.

      • It's already been shown that Bungie has the ability to upgrade damage rates on weapons (Mythoclast from 300-323) so I'm sure it'll be possible for them to allow players to upgrade their own weapons too.

        • Exotics will be able to be used during Crotas end. And after. But legendaries will not be able to be used after.
