The Embrace of Winter: Part 6

Somehow, the barrel shaped poor excuse for a ship made it through the storms and across the planet to the last city. The EXO was speechless as they flew over the massive city in the light of the moon. He was even more taken back when he saw the giant orb floating over the city. "You may want to slow down before we crash into the Tower," suggested his Ghost. "Right, slow down," said the EXO nervously. "You don't know how to do you?" Said his Ghost condescendingly. "Actually," explained the EXO, "the problem is that the engines and thrusters only go one way." "Don't tell me," groaned his Ghost. "Yep," nodded the EXO with a smirk. "We have to go in backwards to slow down." His Ghost groaned as he tried to keep holding the ship together. The EXO turned off the rear engines, and hit the side thrusters until he got them to face their engines directly towards the landing dock. "You know," commented his Ghost. "I wouldn't call this flying." "I agree," said the EXO with a hearty laugh. "We are falling and trying not to crash to our doom. Of course we will crash, but hopefully it will not be fatal." "We're so close," winced his Ghost. "Please don't kill us now that we're supposed to be safe." As they got close to the dock, the EXO turned the engines on full power. "Ah hah! Perfect timing!" He said triumphantly. Sadly, he rejoiced a little too soon. The engines could not take the strain and sputtered until they finally gave up and blew out. Now the ship looked like a big ball of black smoke streaming towards the docking bay. All the guardians and mechanics in there quickly ran to get out of the way of the out of control object. Their ship slammed hard onto the floor of the dock, and bounced up. It flipped in the air as parts scattered away from it. It hit the floor again and bounced up as more and more parts scattered from it. As the ball of smoke finally came to a stop by crashing into a wall with a loud bang, Guardians started to return to see what all the commotion was about. The smell of burning rubber permeated the air, and the sides of the former ship fell away to reveal the EXO pilot, who was extremely dizzy. Whatever color his armor had been, it was now nearly black. As they saw it was only another new Guardian, the others started to laugh and walk away. "That could have gone better," said his Ghost who had apparently dematerialized inside of the EXO before the crash and materialized just now. All while sustaining no harm. "You know what they say," groaned the EXO as he stood up very wobbly. " 'Any landing you can walk away from,' " His Ghost chimed in, " 'Is a good one.' I know I know." "What?" Said the EXO as he looked at his Ghost with a look of surprise mixed with disbelief. "Why would that be it? No, 'Any landing you can walk away from better keep your ship in tact too.' Until we get another one, we are grounded." "Oh," muttered his Ghost. Then he perked up and said, "Ships may be in short supply, but I am sure we will figure something out soon. After all, Guardians are needed throughout the system." "Well at least we are here, finally," said the relieved EXO as he removed his filthy helmet. "So where were you going to take me?" "To the Speaker!" Ejaculated his Ghost. "I had almost forgotten. Come on." His Ghost actually led the way physically instead of with waypoints. "Vector must really be excited about this person," said the EXO to himself. "I hope all of my questions do not ruin that for him."
