3. The Day We Spoke

As our three ships flew through the storm towards an open field in what had formerly been the Japanese Empire, I heard a faint whimper from behind my seat. The child still hadn't gotten used to the feeling of flying, though it would be understandable as she had only flown twice, neither of the trips being very long at all. I looked back and flashed her a smile, which only seemed to frighten her more. Right, I thought to myself, I am still the homicidal man who killed her parents. The four of us, the Titan, Hunter, child, and I, materialized outside of our ships and landed softly in the cold pools of water that speckled the grounds around us. We were immediately met with an ocean of Fallen who had been hiding in the caves and behind boulders and cars that were scattered throughout the area. Unlike my speech at the Tower, I had this one planned out. I held the child above my head and placed her on my shoulders, knowing well that at any moment my followers and I could be dead. "What are you doing?", whispered the Titan. I didn't give any sign of answer. There was an intense feeling of confusion from the Fallen we stood before. There was no sound save the heavy rain pounding the ground beneath us for a few moments. And then there was a spontaneous wave of unbelievably loud outcry. I gave a quick wave back to the Hunter and, seeing it, three of her bullets pierced the clouds above. And there was silence again. Then thunder. "We are here to return one of your lost children," I said, addressing the gathering, "and we would like to listen." Previous chapter (2): http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71125957/0/0/1
