Help improve Destiny

If you think Destiny is lacking, or there is something horribly wrong, or you feel you were lied to, or simply just have an idea to make things interesting, drop a line or two. No flaming plz. I like Destiny, I play whenever my job allows me time. I think its a decent enough game, that has some issues, and like most launch MMOs, it is a bit light on content. We all know Bungie is CONSTANTLY looking for feedback, the 1.0.2 patch proves that. So STOP WHINING and help come up with solutions. I'll start. *deep breath* A proper black market dealer. Xur is nice, but his inventory is... lacking. And the requirements behind strange coin and mote acquisition is a bit grindy. Add'l dealer should appear at RANDOM real-world times lasting for a 24-hour period at a random spot in the tower. Arrival and location should preferably not be scheduled. And as Ben Parker said: "with random appearances, comes random inventory." Give this dealer a wide variety of items; guns, armor, guns, ammo, guns, crafting materials, guns, engrams. Did I mention guns? No? well Guns. Lots of Guns. MOAR GUN. Random inventory should request ALL currency types. Glimmer, Vanguard Marks, Crucible Marks, Motes, Coins. Drop in a trade system--the Vanguard Quartermaster gives rep for crafting materials. How bout Crafting materials for a gun? ONLY ONE CURRENCY TYPE PER ITEM. I.E.: this rare gun is 15K glimmer, but this legendary helm is 5 strange coins. How bout these boots? Sure, hand over 200 spinmetal leaves. U want this shader? Pass them Crucible marks over. Sir/Ma'am wants a sweet engram? Gimme dem Motes of light. Vendors in general I dunno, I feel there needs to be more. As in, there needs to be more than one social/market place. The Tower is cool, but it sucks that it is the only place I can buy stuff. How bout a vendor in the Reef? Similar to the Queen's Emissary, but with more gun. And armor. Keep the current Queen's gear unique to the Queen's Wrath event. <Insert amazing idea here> Areas/Maps/Zones/etc OK first proper gripe: too often have I gone to areas that are blocked off. WTF, mate? I figure the Jovian Complex opens up when we can go to Jupiter, but come on. There is no reason we can't explore it before then. Why is the area you are first resurrected blocked off? It was open in the Alpha. It looked AMAZING. I. LOVE the sheer size of some environments. The Moon? YES. More of that please. Venus is amazing, but Mars? I wanna marry that map. I wanna have its babies. Red dust babies. Its the attention to detail. Give your artists a raise, they've outdone themselves. The Cryptarch I know. He was "fixed" with 1.0.2, but I think there is more to be said/done here. It is a step in the right direction with 1.0.2, but it is a short-term setup to placate the whiners who keep getting Basic and Common gear for Rare and Legendary engrams (I am one of them). A better solution would have engrams of each type have a significant chance to be an item of the matching rarity, I.E.: Rare engram has 80% chance at a Rare item, but still has a chance for a lesser or greater item. The Cryptarch's level adds modifiers to the % chances. -----> Cryptarch level of 0 = NO modifiers. Level 1-2 adds higher chance of item being of same rarity, at the expense of the % chance for a lesser item. Levels 3-5 increase the % chance for the item being of the same rarity, and the next tier at the expense of lower tier % chance. Higher levels keep the % chance of same rarity, and increase the chance of better rarity at the expense of lower. %chance for lower rarity can never be a 0 value, but get damn close. I feel this is a more positive experience for all, except for the soulless beings that have to code for it. This way, there is still a chance of getting screwed by the Cryptarch, but there is still a chance, and a better one of getting rewarded as well. Something tells me this is how decryption is supposed to work. My math is simply for example purposes only, and should be tweaked (heavily) before implementation. Story Nice job with "Show, don't tell." Unfortunately, you have shown us a lot with little to no context within the game. Yes, I can always hit up the Grimoire online or on the Companion (which is delightful, btw. great job there.), but to have to leave the game to do so breaks gameplay flow. Don't go the Mass Effect route and have some ridiculous codex in-game, that is...too much, and a bit of text overload, though narrated video, or video like the opening cutscene could do WONDERS for this problem. (This is more likely an idea for future expansions/games). Bungie: Destiny is NOT a bad game. It is a game with some pretty Brave concepts that needed a bit more time in the cooker. To compare this game to Halo leads down the path to darkness. Halo is the roots, but this tree is borne of greater fruit. Send more content (little things, like guns, are appreciated) and keep up the good work.

Missions Variety is the spice of life, huh? While the current slate of missions/patrols are...adequate, Lets mix it up a bit, take a page from your public events. Guardian Extraction: Overwhelming waves of enemies force players to fall back to RANDOM extraction point. Tank/mobile target defense (defended object MUST move from position a to spawnpoint) Demolition: Plant the bomb. somewhere. Assault: attack the enemy stronghold. "Clear them out!" Limited respawing (heroic darkness zone), enemy has heavy reinforcements to start. Basically, the final stage of a Strike. Extra-curricular Activities The companion app is nice, but I feel underutilized. The map is nice, grimoire, gear, inventory, its all nice. Make it AMAZING: allow vendor purchases thru the app (deliverable in-game via special orders [I feel she is underutilized as a second postmaster]). Allow players to earn vanguard marks or rank by doing things in the real world--checking in/clearing bounties, accepting bounties in the app (treat them like patrol missions-- +10 rank, and 1-3 marks is fine for each thing done, or for 5 things done via the app.

Loot Gear, loot, guns, whatever you want to call it, RNGesus needs a revamp. Yes. It is fair, in the same sense that a hungry bear is "fair," it doesn't care if it eats you or your friend, its hungry and you both qualify as sacks of meat. *Disclosure: YES. I spend a bit of time on Destinydb.com and DestinyTracker. Also I have watched that video going around noting design changes and removals in the final product.* That said, there actually is quite a LOT of content, gear, accessories, etc. in the game, contrary to an earlier post. The problem is the structures surrounding obtaining and using them. -The level system renders most equipment utterly useless while at certain levels. I'm not talking about level restrictions. I really mean gear quality/rarity. Getting a blue or green engram while at lv. 20+ is almost an entirely pointless endeavor due to equipment ratity/quality being tied to level restrictions. Green engrams/weapons are completely useless for my Light 28 Hunter. Blues are also useless unless they happen to decrypt into one of the many currencies. What use is a lv18 Sultan when i have a nearly fully upgraded Cure? -IDEA: That video points out an interesting concept behind weapon level. While I'd like to see some development on that idea, it is highly possible that method did not balance gameplay properly, so keep it on the back-burner until a solution can be made. -IDEA: Remove the correlation of gear quality/rarity from level requirement. allow basic, common, rare, legendary and Exotic gear of ALL levels. Quality/rarity simply giving something "minor." Like: this common shotgun has a larger magazine than this basic one, or this legendary hand cannon has a chance to make enemies explode when killed (no upgrade necessary). This lv8 Exotic machine gun has lower stats than this lv15 rare, but that exotic has bullets that can track a target (no upgrade necessary). Or this basic level 20 helmet has mad defense, but dat lv14 rare has a high chance to auto-res me when I die, and has a skill to decrease the time I have to wait to respawn.

I would like to add 50, 75 to 100 Vanguard reputation pts. doesn't feel like real progress when you're above rank 3. Maybe they should just update the point system for the slightly more difficult bounties like Target a specific enemy with a Heroic mod active that offers only 50-100 pts. So why not give the option to amp it up to Heroic mod lv. 22 or higher to reward more Vangaurd pts. like 150-250; that way it makes our effort gives a bit more meaning. And damn these forum layouts, it's difficult to navigate here. . .here's a few topics I suggested to improve Destiny as well: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72554133/0/0/1 And this: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72694519/0/0/1

Bump, this is amazing and a must in my opinion. I also have a thread for "Guardian Customization" that I also think could be doable. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72185147/0/0

Vendors 2.0 I figured out what my issue with the Vendors is: It is not them, rather its the currencies in use in the game. There are no LESS than 14 seperate currencies used in-game. We're talking Glimmer, marks (vanguard and crucible), motes, coins, and all the various "crafting materials." ALL currencies. Why so many? Many of them are only usable in specific upgrades, with specific classes or specific vendors. Not meeting that criteria makes the currency useless. The crafting system is more like EZ Craft oven, just buy your upgrade--instantly. And many of the upgrades are simply damage ingreases or decreases. The most useful or unique upgrades are stuck to certain exotics, or force you to choose one or another. Faster reload? Or faster Velocity? NOT both. While I like that upgrades of that type are switchable and you aren't locked into your choice with them, I would much rather a more robust crafting system. ---how bout when you get titan gear with your hunter, instead of putting the off-class gear or crafting materials into the vault, how bout using the materials to boost the armor rating of your gear, at a significant boost over using sapphire wire, but at the detriment of agility or movement speed?

        • Planets This one goes back to the Areas/zones/etc but this one is a bit more on the technical side. And I'm a bit certain it will break the game a bit. GRAVITY. Not the film, but the force. It is not with us. Give each planet a different gravity value: 1=Earth, .3=Luna, etc. jumping gets a whole new dimension, double (triple) jumping can be made utterly useless, or completely necessary to do the simplest traversals. While a decent concept, this may break a few maps... so caution, and some SRS testing is advised.

          • Mission select Let us setup playlists of missions to do, a la strike playlists, but just for story missions. (similar to how the Queen's Wrath kill orders work, but keep running until players/fireteam leader opts out or playlist ends. Custom playlists in general. Randomly hitting strikes is nice, but there are just some days where Phogoth and the Psionic Flayers can just go -blam!- themselves.

            • I already posted these in my own feedback (here at: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71257543/0/0) but it never hurts to post them twice. Suggestions for Improvement of Destiny: 1) Conversations and Dialogue Choices: - Incorporation of the ability to converse with the variety of interesting characters you meet (like the Speaker, Vanguards, Cryptarch, Queen, etc), including your own Ghost - he could be the player’s source of info that explains the exposition in the Grimoire cards. It would certainly give more of a purpose to having Peter Dinklage's voice. Being able to choose from a set of dialogue choices with the characters you meet would really boost Destiny and it would let you feel more personally engaged with your character and with the game's world. The player would have more choice as to how to represent their character in the world (angry, calm, distrustful, etc.) but it would also serve the purpose of getting information without breaking the player’s immersion. I mean, for example, the Speaker's dialogue could have been, "You probably have a lot of questions Guardian. Shall I tell you of the great battle that took place centuries ago?" With a menu giving you options based on what you would like to do at that point, i.e. 'Yes', 'No' or 'Tell me something else' (like how long have I been dead & how come Ghostlage over there could revive me?) You can return to the Speaker & others from time to time for more conversations and etc. To me it feels like a natural fit for Destiny. 2) Quick Chat Options: - I know Bungie are working on a refined voice chat system but I’d like to see a text based quick chat system because it would be more efficient in the long run, i.e. not everyone has mics and sometimes pre-made quick chat text options are quicker when interacting with a random player. For example, when holding down the select button or up on the D-pad (whichever convenient button) a menu comes up with pre-made text such as, “Hi”, “I’m doing Strike wanna join?”, “Treasure Chest!”, “Dead Ghost”, “High level enemy”, and etc. Ace Combat Infinity’s quick chat text would be a good example to follow. The ability to set up a beacon or ‘ping’ on the map to alert other players to a location would be good. It could show up as an icon on everyone’s HUD with details like ‘Treasure Chest’ or ‘Help with Enemies.’ Also, this controller scheme image that many other forum users have suggested is quite good: http://i.imgur.com/FSfWoZo.jpg 3) Bullet Sponge Boses: - Make the boss battles more about utilising tactics rather than finding a good cover spot and throwing bullets at them until they collapse or grow bored and say “Alright, you win. I have to pick up my kids from school.” For example, give the bosses vulnerable hard points that can only be accessed from a certain angle and they shift or shield them over a period of time so you have to keep adapting to how they move. Or let us lower the capability of certain bosses’ main weapons by destroying them when exposed (only to have a different type of weapon take it’s place but you’ve done more damage to the boss so it’s a tactical trade-off). For example, the battle with Sekrion Prime (from such roles as ‘The Nexus’ Strike on Venus). Sekrion uses two giant cannons to clobber you with in addition to a rotating shield. Why not make it so that we can cripple his cannons if we focus enough firepower on them. Once both are down Sekrion then transforms and brings a shielded cannon into play, which you cannot destroy. It can wipe you out in one hit but it needs a 12 second charge every time it fires. More variety/stages to certain bosses equals less boredom when fighting them repeatedly. 4) Ship Combat and Spaceflight: - Like with Halo: Reach or something akin to Star Wars Battlefront 2 where you could have boarding actions. For example, being ambushed by a Fallen ketch could be like a public event but in space. You dogfight with the fighters and can fly into the huge mother ship where you can get out and proceed to destroy the mother ship from the inside while other players are attacking it from the outside. All of it culminating in a timer where every human player still inside the big ship have to race to their jump ships and fly out before it explodes. I like the ships but it would be much better if we could actually do something with them like fly them around space ala Freelancer or have a rail shooter like Star Wars The Old Republic, etc. Maybe actually have a garage space in the Tower where you can customise weapons, colours, armour or at least walk around the outside and inside of your ship before launching if you wish (ala KOTOR). Or something like a Mace Griffin style cockpit view would be awesome. To be able to stand up from behind the control yoke, walk into your in-ship armoury, look around your guns hanging on racks, then return to the cockpit & take the controls again (make the ships kind of a personal living space). In smaller terms it would also be cool if you could make it so that we could use the left stick to do some spins and turns with our ships during the loading screens. That'd be something fun to do while killing time, especially in a group. These are but a few ideas. There’s many more out there on the forums concerning ships. Looking at the how the ships are modelled with weapon hard points and etc. I feel that you guys & girls over at Bungie already have a plan but there’s no harm in considering the majority of people’s suggestions – also there’s no harm in giving us these more interactive & flyable ships sooner rather than later :) 5) Last City & Sparrow Races: - It would be great to open up the Last City below the tower into an extended social space for exploration and minigames like sparrow races. Would also be nice to be able to apply shaders to sparrows, ships and weapons – might as well get that in there.

            • Voice Chat In-game voice chat, proximity and fireteam based would be nice, but is unnecessary. Proximity would be excellent during public events and running around in the world. Team based proximity will work in the Crucible. Personally, in-game voice chat is merely extra. I'm usually using Party Chat over PSN or Skype to care too much about in-game chat. Proximity chat in the Tower would simply devolve into madness; a giant cesspool of insults, drivel, and poop. This is much the same way I felt about voice chat since Halo 2. It was nice and amazing then, but as more private alternatives came up, it became more of a novelty than a necessity.

              • I would like to see 4 man fire teams 90% of the time i'm in party chat with 3-5 players and none of us like pvp at all. so that leaves olny the raid to do but you have to find a 6th person rewards for beating a mission or "story" over again in a harder mode this grinding the same mission over and over for nothing is getting old quick even 1 shard or energy or glimmer or ammo packs anything at all would be nice. I do love the game and have a lot of fun playing but now im at the point were I think I have the best gear I can get for my level and stuff is starting to repeat over again like the queens items by the time this came out I was all ready in full legendry and 1 exotic so the gear was useless to me then to get the same helm and chest over and over felt very unrewarding then you took the shard because we "leveled up to fast" what a bs excuse for we messed up.. I don't want a proximity chat like I want to travel into some area and some guy has some music up to loud and I cant hear myself think or screaming kids with squeaky voices if there was some kind of mute the person then I wouldn't mind. balanced pvp time and time again I get 1 shot with a throw knife there no way every throw is a head shot or a shot gun or melee but it takes me 3 shots 3 punches to do the same thing to them if its even then its even no one should have and advantage except the better player not because he has a exotic weapon and I have a white gun. for instance this guy wins a fusion that eq in the primary spot and 3 hit kills from any were no one can get close enough to kill him with there current weapon so how is that fair to any player. your basicly saying that to compet with him we have to beat the raid on hard and that not how the pvp intended or at least I thought it wasen't skip for movies I have seen them so many times I can tell you what he going to say b4 he says it. different loot you have the same stuff with a different name that's like saying tomato tamato get real I have bought the new content but if its on the same planets I have all ready been to a thousand times im going to be seriously pissed off why should I pay for that ??? 40$ for the same stuff like wtf that's like dobble charging me to look at the same stuff.

Fireteams Too often do I find myself in an external party chat with 3-5 friends over PSN, yet I can't play with them cuz I already have 2 other guys in my fireteam, and none of us are high level enough to Raid, and some have little to no interest in the Crucible. Three is nice, but I think 4 is the sweet spot, especially when one considers the fireteam expands up to 6 for Crucible and Raids. Better thought? Simply allow us to have a fireteam of any size up to 6 people and ramp up enemy difficulty based on 3+ team members. Larger Fireteams also open doors for larger areas and more vehicle combat. Strikes feel like mini raids, so it works there too. Vehicles As far as I can tell, there are only about 3 driveable vehicles. That's.... a short list. The Sparrow is....cute. As basic early and "always there" transport, its fine. Need more Jungle to speed through, but that's for another time. Boost needs a bit of reworking--not quite sure what it is, but it feels weak or too slow after that initial boost. And I'm willing to bet 98% of its use is under prolonged boost. I like that a double-tap gives another overboost, but it doesn't last long enough nor is it powerful enough. (All that said, I've only acquired the upgraded Sparrow, not purchased the one from the Vanguard, nor obtained any Legendaries nor the Exotic, so this may be irrelevant) The Pike is too similar to the Sparrow, onboard weapons notwithstanding. The Interceptor is too uncommon, only appearing with the Cabal on Mars. It is far different from the previous two, being slow and being able to lay down heavy fire. the boost ability is nice, but a bit jarring to those not ready for it. Awesome. set us up some APC's or multi-person vehicles or some kind of Warthog-like whip. Something to get people together. And horns. All vehicles need horns. Vehicular combat needs to make a comeback!
