Anyone else think it's odd that Exos wear helmets

Not that I really care much and understand the practical reasons, but I got to thinking in beta, why does a mechanical "person" who doesn't breath need the helmet, or even just why for protection when the helmet is the same looking material as their heads. Again, I'm not bitching, I totally get it's just programming continuity across the races, but I do chuckle thinking about the absurdity. Edit: Good catch, smartphone posting and didn't proof read, thanks.

  • If nothing else, it would be to protect their optics (or eyes) or auditory sensors (ears). Their entire face may be made of metal, however the ears would be made of a thinner, probably dampening material that would better collect sound and the eyes would be cameras with flimsy lenses. Can't risk damaging this all-important hardware. Can't very well complete a mission if you can't see or hear your surroundings..

  • There seems to be confusion...I get that their heads probably house important components, that was never my point. I simply found it a bit humorous thinking about a robot made if metal and other man made materials wearing armor made if presumably the same or very similar materials, from as conceptual standpoint. I in no way want or think it should be changed, just seems kinda redundant

  • I'm sure that like Humans and Awoken their are some important 'organs' so to say located in their head, so it only makes sense to protect it.

  • Well it's simple they use helmets for double armor protection. I'm pretty sure if you shot a unarmored Exo head with a Futuristic High powered 50. cal gun or a laser gun or whatever, it isn't going to turn out well for the Exo in question

  • What if a piece of shrapnel got in one of my eyes? Nobody knows how they work so, I would be blind. (If I am lucky, only in one eye.)

  • Exos wear helmets as a judgment to the meatbags. They wear a helmet as a deformed person wears a veil; not to be nice to others, but to compare what they see with the veil with what they see behind it.

  • Perhaps the helmets have some communication system inside. Also, there could be a council of some sort that made it regulation for all guardians to wear their helmets while in combat situations

  • Triple, I feel like your idea of just welding the armor right onto the Exo does make sense. However like some people have been saying, if your built in shoulder gets damaged, it's a lot more hassle to remove the whole arm and get a new shoulder, than just to replace the shoulder pad if it's separate. Unless it penetrates haha. Also, from a game perspective, you could never change your armor, and never get the abilities from them. Unless they treat it like programming for abilities, and swapping your arm for a better one.. Think of it like that.

    • i dont mind that. What I do mind is the sound FX for them. Why is my exo grunting like a human when he gets shot? At least add some sorta robot-synthetic filter.

      • Why have a case for your smartphone? Why do soldiers wear a helmets in a tank? Why do cars have bumpers? In the end, I'd guess primarily for added security and protection (especially since no one knows the inner workings of an Exo, let alone how to fix one). In addition, it allows them to hear the Ghost when it vanishes.

      • Not really. Optics, be they organic or mechanical/electrical are sensitive equipment and need to be protected. Also, as humans designed them. What their brain is is most likely in their head. So, you really want to protect what really makes you, you.
