Just because your not forced to listen to EVERY foul mouthed child near you, doesnt mean its not social.

Edited by kellygreen45: 8/28/2014 2:59:51 PMWhat is "social"? Everything. Verbal communication is only a very small fraction of our social interactions. Actually some of the best "social" interactions I had in the beta didn't involve any words. One was exploring in The Divide when I was a Warlock running with a HC. I put two headshots into a Fallen Major...and he still didn't go down. He was about to finish me off while I was in the middle of reloading when a Titan swooped in and came to my aid. Put down the Fallen Major with shotgun blast....and kept right on going. The other was on a Devil's Lair strike with a MM fireteam. Our third flaked out on us and never made it into the strike...leaving me and another guy to try to finish the strike as twosome. It was INCREDIBLY hard, and my warlock ended up dying 14 times....ten times in the "mesh" room alone. But both us understood that we were going to stick this out. I wasn't going to quit and let him down...and he was willing to carry me during the part of the strike where my Warlock was very vulnerable. When we finally killed Sepiks, we both there was no dancing at first. We both just sat down as if exhausted after a REALLY long day....then danced a bit and took off. A few hours later there was a friend-invite from him in my message box...and we ran a couple of explore missions together before the beta ended. Bungie will probably include some form of chat, once the game is established and they feel more confident that bad actors won't ruin the game by trolling and griefing. But talking isn't necessary for the social aspects of the game.

I think they mean "social" more in the pervasive sense, as in Facebook social. They're putting a stage where players will be constantly returning to, be that the game, web or mobile. Constant activities, constant chat about the game and sharing, that sort of iSocial, sort to speak. But, as someone else already posted, after this step forward, they make one step back by allowing players to only speak to each other under very limited circumstances. Specially during casual free roam encounters, I don't get how they went to all the trouble to implement that and when two players do meet through their seamless matching all they can do is.. seat, point, dance ?? like wtf? (yeah I know you can press this and that plus that select some more and....whaaa the guy is gone.., so no.)

The app is to integrated into the game it's pathetic.

I'm not sure myself. The social theme of this game takes one step forward then one step back.
-
Not really social unless you have a fireteam honestly and even then...
-
I wonder myself I feel like there should be proximity chat with the option to full on enable chat with someone in game if you want to

Voice chat, and dancing

The only social interaction I had encountered is really when a public event was happening or I am sniping and someone else stands next to me and we have at it. Which honestly, I don't mind the non verbal communication, mutual understanding, and thanking by waving or I saw some people crouch and bounce out was enough for me.

It must be the dancing
