Remove the 75 clanmate limit - The worst rule for big clans

Original post: [spoiler]Currently I have over 125 members and has been working extremely hard with other helpers to recruit. We've been stuck at 75 clan mates and I've told 30+ people It was a bug that they couldn't set the clan as their xbox clan. I thought it was because when you pressed Set xbox clan it would say error. Apparently Bungie doesn't allow more than 75 clanmates in a group. Why is this? This makes no sense! I'm not going to tell the most recent 40 enthusiastic people to leave the clan because of a limit. I demand the limit be nulled, I want all my members to be able to participate just as much as the last if they desire. I'm not accepting this. Remove the 75 clanmate limit! -Please don't respond with "Just form an alliance" that isn't ideal and it would be easier if Bungie simply raised the cap.- (If you see a clan with > 75 clan mates that's because the maximum is 75 for PS and Xbox but you can have both, a maximum of 150 clan mates.)[/spoiler]

  • I'm pretty sure Bungie did raise the clan cap. I believe it's at 100 now.

[b]Bungie Dev 1[/b] Let's make a Social Game where you constantly interact with other players, and some missions require you to be in a squad with other players. [b]Bungie Prog 1[/b] Sounds great, but can you take it easy on us Programmers, and only allow parties of up to 3 players, even though pretty much every game released allows up to 4? [b]Bungie Dev 1[/b] Sounds fair, we have been a bit harsh on your teams. [b]Bungie Prog 2[/b] I would also like to put in that Clan Sizes should not allow more than 75 people. I mean, who even has more than 100 friends on their friends list, that they constantly interact with? I mean, the PS3 can't handle more than 100 Friends, so let's play it safe for them and only allow 75 people in a clan.       • I don't know man. 75-man clans allow for 67525 different combinations of 3 people for Explore/Story. It allows for over 201 million different 6-man teams. Looks like plenty of choice to me. Why exactly do you -want- more?

        • Fine as long as these huge Zerg Clans do not get any bonus over small clans just for having huge numbers, rewards for clan activity should scale with numbers. Small tight clans that are high achievers should be able to rank with Zerg clans who have 80% of their members inactive. Clan rankings should be based on total achievement points across the entire clan divided by their number of members. This way large clans can exist as the OP wanted but small clans can also be recognised for their achievement on an equal footing, pure membership numbers should not be a reward in itself

            I'm looking into this. We do want for clans to be intimate combat units - the type of place where everyone knows everyone else, but 75 does seem low. Stay tuned... And, we're back. I talked to some guys here. That 75 clan limit was a bug. The total will be raised in Destiny actual. Maybe not as high as some of you want to see it, but it will be raised.

            • All I can think of when clans are mentioned is vintage Halo 2. Then I just envision a clan system built into the in-game interface separate but somewhat linked to the in-game "roster." 75 members does seem a bit low for this. But then I remember H2 clans like KSI or XGC; large, well-known community clans with thousands of members apiece, broken down into different subsect clans all forming some sort of hierarchy. If I recall correctly the clan limit within the H2 engine was 100, so it's not altogether crazy to think that the community will find a way to make clans work to their advantage regardless of limitation. But still, kudos on bringing about the change OP and commentors. A round of applause for you all. *clap*

            • Following on with my last post this is always the problem I have had with the clan system; what is their purpose? Guilds in MMOs I get. They provide a central place for people to share gear and resources, chat, and form groups to tackle tough content. Clans for the most part are outside of the game. You have to set your own matches, keep your own standings, and overall "measure" your own dicks(I apologize that an overly emotional wording ment to excite reaction, and not reasonable discussion, but I don't know how else to word it) Clans had a place in halo 2, but it was just for those who wanted a competitive PVP playing environment. Guilds gave a purpose. Feel free to correct my wrongness here. I can't see it. If destiny can make guilds, and call them clans then that is a great leap foreword in the FPS scene.

                So as a leader, you also admit you have been lying to people as to why they couldn't join clan on bungie side. One more tidbit of advice, don't advise people when you are ignorant about something.

                          • Deej talks about the clan limit (can't remember the video) when your clan is full you can make an alliance with your secondary clan. They want you to be able to know everyone in your clan. Maybe start breaking up your clan into sub groups that have similar interests

                              • I don't understand what all the fuss is about. As far as I can tell, you can only play with 2/5 other people at a time. No need for even 75 guys when there is nothing you can do together collectively anyway... Clans are not a Bungie strong suit, but luckily for them they are good at other things. Now if the increased fire team sizes and made a few other adjustments, I could see large clans more meaningful. But right now, who cares?
