  • I like it. But now I am bored. I'm decked out in camouflage gear, gas mask, hiking back pack, carrying a .45 pistol and an M4 with ACOG, flashlight, bipod, suppressor, and enough good, after, bandages, ammo and splints to survive a 2nd zombie apocalypse. Now I have found my little area to farm all there is for me to do is on occasions skirmish with other players and on the odd occasion replace damaged magazines and replace ammo. Sorta boring after a while.

  • The mod is brilliant in its simplicity. It embodies a "do more with less" philosophy. The learning curve and difficulty level were off the charts, and the harshness/brutality of the game made it feel so much more real. If a zombie apocalypse ever actually happened, the DayZ mod of Arma 2 is likely the closest possible thing you can get in a video game as to how it would be. But it seems like they're trying to make the standalone more accessible with a shallower learning curve, more information displayed, and misplaced focus on customization, which completely ruins the magic of the mod. Just my opinion though. A buddy of mine who I used to play a ton of DayZ with loves the standalone even more than the mod.

  • I would love to say yes, because I wanted it to be a great, but I can't. So, no. It was an ambitious undertaking and had great potential, but the game is boring. The designer knows it and is trying to fix it, but his plan to fix it is flawed. He wants to use community structures to empower players to provide content to combat the monotony. He may be able to keep a niche group of players but that's it. The player driven content strategy could be successful if the game itself wasn't so boring, but even then the user base is niche (EVE Online).

    • It's still in alpha right now (many people seem to forget this and treat it as a fully released game) so I wouldn't recommend it. You should go play the mod it's more complete from what I see and hear. I've play the standalone but not the mod.
