In today's day and age, nothing is more important in your product's competition than the price it costs in relation to other companies.[/quote]I feel it's my duty to say, as a Marketing with PR student, that this is not entirely true, Price is one of many factors, if you position something correctly then it can easily sell for extortionate amounts, Microsoft has actually priced it relatively cheaply, given its versatility, it's so it can appeal to a wider audience.
It could be argued that the UK price drops were along this kind of line of thinking but without access to Microsoft's strategy documentation and discussions we can only really speculate...
