Locked Threads : Community Examples : Rules?

Well, this will be my first serious post in a long time, I think. It's been a couple years since I have been somewhat active on Bungie.net. I created a new account, again (I can't make up my mind on a name for myself). Anyway..... The new Bungie website is interesting at first glance, some features sorta cumbersome, but nothing I can't handle over time. What is really annoying to me is moderation, though. Sure, I have these tools to hide posts, mute users, etc.. Yet, what am I really doing? Just making a portion of the community invisible? Why should I be the one to craft the experience here on Bungie.net, virtually on my own? I liked how we used to have a list of rules plastered over the top of each forum. I actually have to use the search feature to find the code of conduct, right now. Considering, the wide range of users for this website I feel that we need that reminder of what we can and should not do. I believe if more people read the rules, then more people would practice the rules. Next, I don't feel reading "Thread Locked" in bold red text is much of an inconvenience for me. Consider for a moment new users to Bungie.net. What do we want them to experience? How do we want them to see the community? Individuals tend to follow the flow of the crowd in my opinion. With that said, I would like to get back to real discussions in the public areas of Bungie.net. Topics should always be related to the forum in which they are posted in some way. Sensitive material was always OK for me to be discussed in private groups. I am uncomfortable viewing it out in the open, even if I can dismiss it at my command. It is not that I don't want to use the arsenal I have, to combat the unwanted. I'd rather have tools I don't need to use all the time to have a good experience around here. I would like to come to some kind of midway; where moderators ARE working to keep forum discussions on track and in good taste, as I filter out the few topics I'm just not interested in viewing at a given time. Why should I report, hide or mute anything around Bungie.net? Does doing any of that really impact the community? If so, will I be able to see what I have done? Will others see what I have reported, hidden or muted? If other users have reported, hidden, or muted anything I know I definitely would want to see that. I can turn everything undesirable into nothing, sure. Reporting, Hiding, and Muting could create a cleaner experience for myself, absolutely. However, what is happening in the background. Is everyone else getting that same clean experience? What are we teaching younger and/or newer users by just hiding what we as individuals find disturbing or inappropriate? Why should we leave them stuck at the mercy of their own knowledge of how to use Bungie.net? Others also have the same powers to report, hide or mute anything I do, without my knowledge. Those who do so may choose to never see me or my posts again. That isn't how a forum should work, in my opinion. I think all threads should have the opportunity to be viewed by everyone at anytime. It is only those offensive topics with sensitive material, a user should be seeing disappear (Or not seeing depending on said user's preference). Only those individuals who break the rules should be reported, hidden or muted. Why should one user be alone in the fight, while we could make it possible for others to band with him or her? What if that user noticed the community taking action to improve the experience? Would that user be more invited to join in on the fight? I know that I am the kinda of person that would rather see feedback, while being a part of improving situations. We need tools, but we also need rules. These rules need to always be accessible. We need to see what happens when rules are failed to be followed. Forums need to be about discussions on decent thoughts, and stay on topic. We can do better, Bungie.net! Bungie and Bungie.net Ninjas you know we can do better! Let's do this!

 • I really wanted to avoid putting this in the topic, however I really don't like some of the media that even forum ninjas are posting. Even if there is an indirect statement intended with the posting of such material, it can still be something that would result in a locked thread, warning maybe even a ban before I left awhile back. Why are we turning our backs on those values?
