  • Kids - Gather round and listen to a story about heroism, sacrifice and the best damn game of capture the flag I ever played. It began one evening playing Halo 3 with a couple of buddies. We mixed things up from our usual slayer matches and ended up playing capture the flag on Orbital. The game began and everybody hurried off to make a grab for their favorite tool of destruction. It was in these first few moments that disaster struck, the fourth player on our team (a complete stranger) bailed on us, leaving us shorthanded. Despair settled over me. What were we to do? How could we keep from getting slaughtered? Kids - I let that feeling of despair dominate me for only a couple of moments before I decided that no matter the outcome I would do my best to keep the other team from scoring. The other team was soon upon us guns ablazing, grenades ricocheting off the walls and players from both teams started dying. Now I wish I could say that we kept the other team from grabbing the flag but that would be a lie. I can say that we did keep them from scoring. The other team came and every time they died. There were tense moments when I thought the other team was going to get away, but we always managed to stop them and return our flag. After an eternity of denying the other team the announcer finally called an end to the game. The final score was a tie, 0 - 0. While I know this is technically not a Win. We did walk away with our heads held high. We had faced numerically superior forces and kept them from achieving their goal. That kids - is a Win in my book any day and is the best damn game of capture the flag I have ever played.
