Will post-Destiny release members benefit the Community?

New blood will renew

New blood will bathe these forums in fire

New blood has no lasting effect

5

No strong feelings either way

Will the flood of new members after the release of Destiny revitalize the flagging Bungie community with an infusion of like-minded individuals who share a common enthusiasm and passion for the game? Or will it drive the (admittedly already low) lowest common denominator to even lower depths? Will the flood of new members dilute all meaningful conversation until these forums are nothing more but an endless chorus of 'JOIN MY CLAN!1!!', leading a mass exodus of members away from the site or to the relative haven of private groups? Or will there be no real change, just a continuation of the community's current state?

  • New members are vital to any community. They will benefit us by adding a fresh take on things.

    • Everybody has to be new at some point. Except for Recon. He has always been old.

      • We'll see new names, new attention whores, new village idiots, nothing more, nothing less. A few of them should turn out to be good though.

      • From what I've seen, this place doesn't really change. It has a "self-polarization effect", if you will. That makes it so new members start acting like the old.

      • Well, by "new blood", I would assume that means first time Bungie gamers, since Destiny is a cross-platform game. But most Bungie gamers now are old(and current) Halo fans. So really, "new blood" would mean new guys coming from PSN. Totally different styles over there, but I've heard that they are more polite. And PSN has a stronger emphasis on indie and artsy games (Journey for one) than XBL. So if that means more creativity in the forums and game, I'm all for that.

        • An "infusion of like-minded individuals" is what's going to dilute all your "meaningful conversation". You should crave variety in all its forms. These forums already had horrendous groupthink, and the recent update empowered it further.

          • Hopefully Bungie adds sub categories. Like a feedback thread. Have all the feedback and flame wars there please.

            • Hopefully we'll get some good members out of it, but most will probably move on in time.

Its the cycle of life. The same thing as halo 2, release, halo 3, halo ce etc, etc, etc. Remember history repeats itself. But in the end of the day there will be a place for everyone around here.

Absolutely. There was a time when each on of us now were "new blood". We may not see it right when Destiny releases, but a few years down the road we'll have members that remember the "good times" with the first Destiny game.
Will the flood of new members dilute all meaningful conversation until these forums are nothing more but an endless chorus of 'JOIN MY CLAN!1!!', leading a mass exodus of members away from the site or to the relative haven of private groups?
Happens every game release. Except this time around, we have the power to remove those discussions.
Or will there be no real change, just a continuation of the community's current state?
There is always change, just whether or not we choose to accept it.

              • We were all new to B.net at one point, and while change can be difficult I'm sure the Bungie Community can pull through.
