Well, to put it shorty, the Elites were pretty tough and "scary" in Halo 1 when we all first fought them but the Flood was the only real horror in Halo but they were only scary in Halo 1 because they were new. Bungie had a goal with Halo Reach and that was to make the Elites "scary" again and they did that by making them a tough and formidable foe once again, right on par with how they were in Halo 1.
So maybe the "sense of fear" we'll get while playing Destiny will simply be from fighting these new enemies for the first time; how they move, and fight and team up and attack will be fresh to us and we'll have to learn different ways to take them down. Remember the first time you encountered a Gold Armored Elite or the first time you fought two Hunters in an open space and then later on in the game you had to fight two more in close quarters? Scary! We'll experience that same "scary" feeling throughout our beginnings with Destiny. Trust!
the Elites were pretty tough and "scary" in Halo 1 when we all first fought them
They really weren't, seeing as how you had a pistol that could kill them in three shots.
-
It took a little more than that. Go play Halo Anniversary. Maybe you were just being sarcastic?
-
It killed them pretty easily. The Pistol was the Battle Rifle of the day. Long as you had it, you didn't need anything else. Except maybe the Rockets.

Edited by Astro Stud: 6/7/2013 1:32:32 PM
They really weren't, seeing as how you had a pistol that could kill them in three shots.
Well I guess I know who didn't play on legendary... lol
-
Legendary wasn't scary either. Just annoying. They're just aliens that shoot at you, a banality in video games.
-
They also sneak, flank, distract and advance in synchrony. And if you find that annoying why are you here in the first place? You can spare me the excuses.
-
"If Legendary was annoying, why are you here." ...because I like Halo? I thought that would be bleeding obvious.

Edited by Astro Stud: 6/7/2013 2:56:42 PM
...because I like Halo? I thought that would be bleeding obvious.
Funny. Especially after:
They're just aliens that shoot at you, a banality in video games.
When aliens shooting at you is basically all Halo game-play consists of. Now I believe I said:
You can spare me the excuses.
Maybe I should have added "petty" before "excuses"... Oh well you get the point. "This house is clear." lol

Well yeah, Halo isn't anything original. The box art is near-identical to Ringworld. The sangheili look like a xenomorph -blam!-ed a yaut'ja. The Master Chief is an updated Security Officer. Hell, quite a few plot points were taken directly from Marathon. Few of its gameplay elements were new either. I don't think you understand what an excuse is, by the way. I've made no excuses in this conversation and yet you're throwing the term around left and right.
-
I let myself go pointing out your several self-contradictions, so enough of that for now. Anyways, you have also forgotten that the spartan II's and III's are straight out of "Soldier", with Kurt Russell, and the flood are straight out of "The Thing", also with Kurt Russell, and the marines, pelicans and the Pillar of Autumn design are straight out of Aliens. Though I would say the sangheili are more like the Predator than the xenomorph from Alien. The list of used and borrowed ideas goes on, but don't let that make you think that Halo was not original. The fact it was an addition to the sci-fi shooter genre still does not mean that it was not original. In actuality, it was revolutionary. Even to this day developers from all over give credit to Halo's engine, gameplay and characteristics for much of their work. Let us also not forget the stunning cinematics and soundtrack which easily make it the most breathtaking space opera in gaming history.
I let myself go pointing out your several self-contradictions, so enough of that for now.
There were none. You pointed out flaws that were not there.
In actuality, it was revolutionary. Even to this day developers from all over give credit to Halo's engine, gameplay and characteristics for much of their work.
It popularized many concepts. It innovated very little.
Let us also not forget the stunning cinematics and soundtrack which easily make it the most breathtaking space opera in gaming history.
The music is pretty good. Seen better cinematics though.
-
It popularized many concepts. It innovated very little.
I actually have come to the conclusion that originality is now how you use a theme, but that is debatable. Regarding the gameplay characteristics, that was no exaggeration. For one example look up Splinter Cell Conviction developers reflecting on how halo affected their product. I can't remember the others but they were well known and quite mainstream. Though we had some moments, it has been fun but I need sleep. Have a good one.
-
There were none. You pointed out flaws that were not there.
I wouldn't go back to that corner again if I were you. lol Now the cinematics were great do to script and cinematography and the effects were top notch when considering that they were in engine with exception of the trailer cinematics, such as Halo 2,s "giving back their bomb".
-
I wouldn't go back to that corner again if I were you. lol
That wasn't an explanation. You're avoiding the point.
such as Halo 2,s "giving back their bomb".
One of the few good parts of that game. That and the final battle against Tartarus. The rest of the campaign was shit, but that fight was badass.
-
That wasn't an explanation. You're avoiding the point.
Because I need to sleep. If you must know, there were at least three. 1:You said how you could kill gold elite in 3 shots w/magnum so they were not difficult. I said you weren't on legendary. You replied that legendary was annoying or frustrating and thus canceled the validity of your gold elite remark. 2:You said shooting aliens are the banality of video games while following a sci-fi shooter forum and then claiming to have liked halo after what you said. That one almost counts as two when you remember your frustrating aliens line. Give me a moment to reflect on the thread for the third.
2:You said shooting aliens are the banality of video games while following a sci-fi shooter forum and then claiming to have liked halo after what you said. That one almost counts as two when you remember your frustrating aliens line.
Just because Halo is generic doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. Aliens are the standard mooks in video games, right beside Nahtzees, Communists, bandits, and farm animals. Metroid and Half Life were doing alien enemies long before Halo, and those are just the most famous examples. These days every other shooter has you fighting aliens. Halo doesn't stand out in terms of enemies.
-
Edited by Astro Stud: 6/8/2013 8:32:48 AMlol Again, more excuses and hollow explanations. I'm sorry but the only respectable move for you concerning now, concerning the contradictions, is to concede and admit. Until then, don't bring it up again.
-
Uh, no, not really, seeing as how you've failed to explain what those contradictions are and when I called you out on it you gave me bullshit I shot down easily. Seriously, this is how the conversation went down. You: LUK AT UR CONDRDISHUNZ!! Me: ...What contradictions? You: LOL UR CONTRADICSHINZ!!
-
You didn't shoot down anything. You even added to it. lol 1:Complaining how easy the game is, but when told to play on higher difficulty you say it's annoying and frustrating. Just after saying how easy it was. lol 2:Claiming that aliens shooting at you are banal to games and are annoying and frustrating. After this you claimed to like Halo, add to the fact that you are following a sci-fi shooter on a forum! lol 3:Your pathetic denial. Until you're willing to admit these three faults don't reply to me again. Thank you and have a nice day.
-
1:Complaining how easy the game is, but when told to play on higher difficulty you say it's annoying and frustrating. Just after saying how easy it was. lol
It's annoying because I keep having to take cover. The Pistol makes killing easy. How quickly my shields go down is the annoying part.
2:Claiming that aliens shooting at you are banal to games and are annoying and frustrating. After this you claimed to like Halo, add to the fact that you are following a sci-fi shooter on a forum! lol
It is. Halo is generic. You even agreed with me.
3:Your pathetic denial.
That you keep talking about but haven't actually proven.
Until you're willing to admit these three faults don't reply to me again. Thank you and have a nice day.
R-R-R-RAGEQUIT!
-
There were none. You pointed out flaws that were not there.
I'm either too tired to remember the third or there wasn't one but this quote can count for now in light of the first two. True about Halo 2 though. Big let down that was lol alright have a good one. I need sleep! lol

IMO Elites weren't scary in Reach. They were cheap. They weren't challenging, they were a headache. Dark Souls, to counter, had insanely tough enemies but it never felt agonizing
