Thanks for reaching out.
Since the [url=https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/articles/35597981889300-Notice-Bungie-net-Account-Unlinking-Update-on-March-25-2025]unlinking update[/url] from March 25th, 2025, only Twitch accounts are now eligible to be unlinked from Bungie profiles. All other platform accounts, once linked, are linked permanently. Further, as Bungie entrusts players with the security and management regarding linking their accounts, we do not unlink any accounts on players' behalf. Thus, the Steam account in question will remain linked.

The expectation from them to players was that players would fix their cross-save setups [i]before[/i] March 25th 2025 to a state that they would be happy living with permanently. For accounts linked after that, the expectation they have is you link the correct account and make sure its the correct account before finishing the process. Any mistakes after that date, they expect you to live with it.

You linked the wrong steam account. So you can either play using that account or play on the other account without cross save. its not complicated.

Unfortunately their policy is a extremely strict one and it leaves outliers with no way around, personally wish it wasn't like this (ie appeal process) but Bungie decided otherwise.
