Stasis “the only class that buffs the enemy team more than you”

You know what makes totally perfect sense, let’s give an extreme damage resistance buff to enemy players that you freeze. Gun does 40-50 damage per shot before freezing enemy players, now you do 5-10 damage per shot and it’s not physically impossible to shatter an enemy without using some obscure and niche ability I don’t want to use. I thought ice was brittle, not bullet absorbing and healing for enemy players but I guess I forgot this was magic ice. Also let’s just make all the stasis melees do no damage from all 3 classes. Even with near maxed out melee stat points, let’s just have stasis be trash here bc why not. Status effects are new and totally won’t be outmatched after 3-6 years of no updates or buffs while every other single class has been reworked over and over and over again. Let’s also make stasis grenades do almost nothing in PvP besides be mildly inconvenient, a superb strategy when facing off against 1-hit kill warlock grenades or all the myriad of other options out there. Let’s also give all these stasis abilities horrible recharge times since status effects like slow and freeze are so powerful and there’s no counter measures that have since been invented in the last 6 years just in case stasis gets too overpowered again. Let’s also add tons of new npcs and villains wielding stasis abilities that have never been before seen or used in game like a ice bubble shield that moves with the user similar to Titan bubbles but without weapons of light and never release it for players to use. Stasis wasn’t bad until I froze a warlock and PvP and magically couldn’t hurt them at all with my gun which resulted in me dying. Nothing about that experience follows any logic at all and lead me down a rabbit hole where I realized just how backwards and bad stasis classes are. In a game where abilities now dominate everything, stasis shouldn’t be the one class that’s purposely nerfed to being trash with almost no plus sides or benefits that genuinely outweigh all the extreme costs and disadvantages of using stasis. Your ice shard system does absolutely nothing in PvP, which is supposed to be the solution to all the horrid ability recharge times but does nothing in PvP when you’re the only stasis user in 2026. Pve still can be fun with stasis largely due to champions but there’s no denying bungie’s extensive efforts to make stasis less powerful has done more harm than good and now it’s laughable that my own stasis abilities are literally buffing the enemy players and making them harder to kill.

  • Stasis immobilises the target, if you run whisper of rending, its an actual kill. Caught in the open? Kill I think its fine. If you run a stasis weapon, on top of rending, you can do a lot of damage.

    No pity here. Stasis has NO place in PVP. Movement is a skill. Movement might be the MOST important skill in Destiny. [b]ANYTHING[/b] that reduces and cheapens the gap of a player's movement in a duel is something that reduces the skill ceiling of a player. Artificially. CC is unhealthy in [b]ANY[/b] franchise that seeks a competitive PVP arena. Because CC reduces skill expression and skill ceilings. So Stasis is unhealthy. It's good the Abilities are most trash in PVP. That should never change. Same can be said of Strand.

    • So hard CC is somewhat notorious, not just in destiny. It's kind of the "fun" remover. Nobody likes getting frozen because the game is saying essentially "haha, you can't play now" until you wait an arbitrary amount of time to get unfrozen or whatever. I think freezing is somewhat a silly mechanic for PVP since it of course does exactly that. You potentially might be able to make the argument that freezing would be fine on the supers, but I think coldsnap nades and warlock melee for example being able to instant freeze is simply not fun to fight. This is why I frankly don't see much of an issue with the damage amounts here since if you do hard CC/freeze someone you're probably more often than not going to kill them anyway. For PVPs sake I do think that targets should only really be able to be slowed/soft CC'd, since techncially this is already how it is on strand. When you "suspend" most pve combatants they are essentially stunned and will not fire back - but in PVP you still can. I do think frost armor should be buffed, but if you think stasis as a whole should be buffed, you might have missed a decent chunk of how nonsense it was early after Beyond Light.

    • Speaking as a cryostesia main and someone who has been using stasis warlock with chromatic fire, you really don't want it to be buffed. Stasis is still potent, slow can be devastating, freeze when used right is outright unfun to face. My only complaint is bad teamates blocking lanes with crystals for no specific reason or goal. As a movement shooter having excessive CC is just unfun, it is too core to the experience, even in it's limited form rn it can be oppressive. If cryo ir chromatic fire ever became the meta I wouldn't disagree with a single person that they would need nerfed. Crystals could use a buff, maybe a fragment or tuning that let's them deal more damage when shot specifically to be more in line with other grenades total damage, but slow and freeze really should not be buffed in pvp.

      • The new stat system gives very few reasons to have enhanced stats for stasis. I've got a couple potent builds on paper but fail in the high level content. We can only hope that it gets buffed in the secretive summer update

            When Stasis was new and meta it was one of my least favorite times to play pvp in D2. The slowing brought your game to a halt and freezing took forever to break out of. Hunters with shatter dive. Warlocks freezing your roaming super with rifts and turrets. Titans with endless ability spams and frost armor. Trust me it is much better now It is funny that freezing makes someone more tanky now lol

          • I just can’t take when a fireteam member is using Stasis and now all their crystals are in the way. Luckily, that doesn’t really happen with Bleak Watchers but definitely happens with Titan effects and Headstone. I also can’t figure out why Woven Mail and Void Overshields are instant and powerful, while Frost Armor is a stacking bonus that is nowhere near as helpful.

            • I don't know man, it's been nerfed, but I think the class is alright, it just doesn't stand out as powerful In pvp, not too long ago, like only a few months, facing even 1 opponent running stasis, meant a match loss, and that's in 6 vs. 6, not even 3s That does happen sometimes though, that frozen enemies take a bunch of extra bullets just to kill

              First, Stasis isn't "ice" despite all the iconography and terminology and graphical representation making it appear as such. It's more a forced state of locked movement on a molecular level, but that's just me being pedantic. Second, Frozen targets only take reduced damage from Primary weapons. They take extra damage from Special weapons and if you melee a frozen target they Shatter immediately (and in the Crucible this kills them outright). This is pretty basic stuff.

            • Wasn't stasis kind of crazy in PvP when it first came out? Not saying it should be buffed again but I remember the forums being full of stasis comments for a while

            • As a vanilla builder, apart from some essential warlock goodness, I rarely lean into builds. Stasis: can’t handle it on my T as it’s too out of control most of the time; on my W - nah!; the only one I like to use is on my H - sending those whorl-winds a-hunting! 😂 That is all. They're sculpted with chainsaws. Does this sound like a brittle material at all? Or akin to a rock?

                • I always thought that Stasis crystals should be really difficult for your opponents to break. They don't really do much damage-wise so why not make them more like a fortification?
