I haven't been playing almost at all since edge of fate and barely looked at community content or discussions about destiny because as a guy at Bungie once said, good or even bad publicity and player sentiment is beneficial. Once people stop caring a discussing your game, it becomes a problem. Indifference is the real enemy.
And thats sadly what my former passion for destiny has turned into for the past 2-3 years now. Indifference. But in reality i really miss having destiny as my go to game. As a save space to come back to. It felt nice.
So i am not a hater. I am a former enjoyer who wants destiny back in its former glory. This will most likely be a one time thing of me giving attention to destiny again because i just don't vibe with the curent abandoned state anymore and with nothing on the horizon for the franchise, it feels pointless to spend time in tbh.
May it be a multiple year roadmap for destiny 2 expansions, or a full engine overhaul to keep the game going or even simply a new destiny title that will be the new live service game that will be an ongoing ever evolving game. From the very beginning. Unlike d2 which was built around the idea to be over after 3 years.
It could even be an early announcement of a new destiny thats planned just like Bethesda did with elder scrolls 6 announcement. They did the announcement back in 2018 and its still far from done. Yet we still atleast know they work on it. With destiny, the uncertainty is its biggest enemy imo.
-> Will Bungie even be a thing in 2 years time? Will Sony fully take over? We dont know since they put all their eggs into the marathon basket and thats a game catered towards a hardcore, niche audience with only a few thousand players playing. Will there be meaningful d2 expansions? We dont know. Will they shift focus towards destiny again? Or will they do a marathon 2 instead? Everything is possible and us destiny fans get nothing to lean on really. And thats bad. Really bad.
We know most Bungie employees might be burned out on destiny as a whole. But imo when you create something THAT special, you should treat it as such. Counter Strike has been going for 27 years now. Call of duty for 23 years. World of warcraft for 22 years. Why does Destiny have to be abandoned after "only" 12 years. There is a massive fanbase and its unique. Invest into it. Heavily. And you will be rewarded naturally.
Like i said, i will most likely go back to not engaging with destiny again after this little post, since theres nothing to look forward to but i had to get this off my chest.
Have a good one folks!

They are most likely working on something, as we know Bungie is horrible at communicating with their players. All we can do is just to wait and see.

Dude, some ppl just want an excuse to be negative or poo-poo on something. Look at what happened when Bungie announced the delay of Shadow & Order. How many ppl said " I guess I'll take a break. There's nothing to do till June" " no point doing any raids now, when all the loot is gonna change in June" I obviously see it differently. I'm grinding all the raids & dungeons NOW, completing titles & getting Master clears BEFORE the changes happen & possibly become more difficult... but unfortunately the majority of ppl dont see it that way. If Bungie made some kind of early announcement for a D3, I'm afraid everyone would quit playing for real because "why bother playing D2, none of it will matter when we got D3".

The game is fun, and has a lot of things going for it, but they never had a vision for this game, and never will, they will not carry this franchise with any measure of strength, even though it's their IP They have altered the game many times, out of greed, out of following that which is external to them, it has harmed them, they deserve it Shed no tears, enjoy it while it lasts, for what it's got

7 RepliesCall it cope, but I truly believe June is the definitive announcement for Destiny's future, for better or worse. Marathon finally launched and is not doing very well, so now Sony and Bungie have to decide whether they want to continue supporting a niche game or get back to rebuilding the established IP. I believe a D3 is being discussed, but I don't believe that's enough. Destiny deserves a reboot where we don't have to worry about having content taken away. I've seen a lot of people going back to D1. If that doesn't give Bungie an idea, I don't know what else to say. Alternatively, as the saying goes, "If it dies, it dies." I'm starting a new chapter in my life, if I have to leave Destiny and Bungie behind as well, so be it.

1 ReplyThat’s the point there is nothing on the horizon! We do have another lacklustre expansion coming soon 🤷🏼♂️🙄

You can be excited for grinding vault of glass for the 50th time - Bungie Probably

I think what he means is, there used to be a “purpose” to play. Remember when Gaul took over and we needed to save those with no light? Granted, that was “attempted” with the Witness, but it fell way short of prior seasons in D1 and D2. Now, we don’t have bounties or missions or reasons to play. It’s just Bungie telling us “grind away boys and girls. At some point we might issue a new season”. I laughed at the beginning of the last DLC when they recycled some of the music from when Destiny was truly fun. Unfortunately for Bungie, it wasn’t as inspirational as it was them rubbing our noses into the crap they’ve been shoveling at us making it even that much less fun to play.

The engine isnt the problem, it's updated once, sometimes twice, every year. Marathon is on it & they make fixes every few days. It's how they built destiny, kept piling on stuff & lost track of how any of it connected, they also made it last much longer than it was built to, as you pointed out. If you want to know how they feel about destiny, look at 2 recent tweets by bungie. First one was Joe Ziegler being asked about accidentaly breaking matchmaking & loot drops - he said thanks for making us aware, it'll be fixed by Tuesday. Second one, DMG replied to someone saying iron banner drops are bugged for most players & don't drop at all for others, he replied saying no changes can be made & we'll look into this in June. Don't hold out much hope for the future of this game, bungie don't care & there's mass staff exodus coming this summer, there might not be a bungie next year, nevermind a destiny.

I can’t wait for this version of bungie to be gone tbh

"Call of Duty for 23 years" - that was like 30 games though, that's not comparable to CS, D2 or WoW. Otherwise you can count Mario, Street Fighter, Resident Evil and so on and so forth. But I agree, we and/or D2 could use something to look forward too.
