Hey there. As you saw from those other posts, it is no longer possible to unlink accounts as of March 2025. So even if you could authenticate the account, all you could do there is cancel cross-save, you still could not unlink the old Steam account after that, to link a new one.
That response you saw is not being posted as a prank. It is, unfortunately, the answer for now. Bungie are not making exceptions to the policy and will not unlink accounts on their end under any circumstances. Bungie may reply to this post but it will only be to confirm what I've mentioned.

Its just infuriating that a choice that was not even fully followed through on, as the account is not authenticated so I cant play on it IF it existed, is locked as a permeant mistake, to hinder me from playing and spending money on the game? What point is there in making a halfhearted policy that seems to just make it harder to play the game. I feel like this is a massive issue, harming lots of peoples ability to play a game that they have poured hundreds into, and yet it goes unaddressed. No follow up or anything for everyone who never was notified of the unlinking change and got screwed over by it. Why is a account that is not finished linking, and thus has no actual access to the content of the game, locked? I have seen this issue annoying seemingly thousands of players who probably WOULD have paid for more DLC's if they could play the game, but instead they just stop playing because they feel that they have no other choice.
