Solar warlock builds - not starfire

Anyone have any endgame viable builds for solar warlock that aren’t starfire protocol? I hate using that build because it feels like my entire subclass is only helpful in a dps phase or if I’m standing still in an empowering rift the whole time (which just gets you killed), and my teammates match my dps with linears anyway while using fun subclasses I like using rain of fire with vex or sunbreakers with enhanced solar grenades but those really only work in low end content. The arc soul changes made arc lock feel helpful the entire time I play, bleak watcher is always helpful in endgame situations, and even though chaos accelerant is worse than all other grenade aspects it’s uptime with devour’s healing makes it helpful. I just can’t find something with solar lock that feels helpful during neutral game in an endgame activity. I haven’t used celestial fire since 2.0 but that never dealt a significant enough amount of damage to be relevant in endgame to me and the snap is only helpful in 1/40 uses when it decides it wants to track the person I’m aiming at and ignite. The grenades do decent enough damage but can’t be looped nearly as well as void lock or arc titan, so if I wanted a grenade build I feel like it’s pointless to use solar lock As for survivability, the heat rises cure is nice I guess but once again with no looping I feel like I might as well use void lock to throw a grenade that deals damage, heals me, and gives grenade energy. If phoenix dive had a significantly shorter cooldown then this would be less of an issue. As for the airborne aspect, Icarus dash is fun but not entirely “helpful” in pve. Heat rises feels useless in any endgame situation because if you’re in the air you have no cover and you’ll be dead within seconds in a gm

As a Solar Warlock, you basically have 3-4 builds that can be used for fun and maybe 1-2 that's actually end game viable. Sunbracers Cheese Ball Spam. Sounds just like it is. Felwinter 1 Punch Ignitions (even though Bungie just nerfed the piss out of it because of its new synergy with glavies) Poison Flame with Necrotic grips and celestial fire. Spread burn and sticky icky Starefire Stickies, the goto metah build. That's about it. Daybreak sucks. Use Well.

  • Check out Plunderthabooty on Youtube. He does some pretty neat builds. Goes in depth on what Aspects and Fragments, as well as options for exotics and mods. Breaks down why he used what and even (on a lot of newer builds) adds a DIM link to the build so you can look it over if videos aren't your thing.

I like to generalize my builds and make slight adjustments based on what I'm up against. For Solar warlock, it has no real ability looping power in its aspects, so that needs to be made up for in fragments and mods. What I consider necessary aspects: Heat rises - (allows you to at least gain some melee energy by hopping just as you kill something) Touch of Flame - Signifcant grenade buff Significant fragment options: Ember of singing - Lets you recharge you rift significantly faster, which opens up certain loops based on other fragments and mods. Searing - Recovering melee energy by scorched kills allows for easier melee loops, especially with how easy it is to apply. +10 recovery helps too Ashes: let's your Incinerator snap ignite if most of the particles hit. Paired with ember of char and searing, it makes for a simple melee build that can be expanded upon. Solace: Helps if you're focusing on a more supportive playstyle, as you reap the benefits you sow for 50% longer (restoration, radiant). Torches: The only way the subclass can gain radiant outside of super. Can make allies radiant if you are close when a melee hits. Benevolence: A big player in support-based Dawnblade. It's heavily nerfed, but can stack with things like singing and searing for compounding ability regen, and can be procced from heat rises, healing grenade, healing rifts and Phoenix dive, and ember of torches. You want to focus on a playstyle with dawnblade, mostly either offensive and melee-focused or supportive and ability regen. Use as many mods as you can spare to increase regen, like class item mods and arms mods. Elemental well builds can usually focus around the melee or the weapon that you're radiant with. For exotics, you have a few options. Stag for addition rift regeneration and resistance while in one. Boots of the Assembler for standing your ground in a team and buffing your mates. This will continually proc ember of benevolence (as far as I've checked) Eye of another world for baseline passive regen Dawn chorus for the offensive, melee focus, providing a percent of melee energy per scorch tick, and scorch does 3x (!) Damage. Phoenix protocol for super looping. Sample support template: https://dim.gg/aog75kq/Dawnblade-Benevolent-Flames Hope this helped!

  • You can do a lot of builds around dawn chorus especially with perks like incandescent. It buffs the supers by 30% and basically increases all dot scorch by something like 15%

    • I mean I've got a stag build that gets a ton of solar wells on melee kills. The idea is use heat rises to get melee back quick and then you can spam your other abilities. I don't currently have it on, but a melee Kickstarter mod on your arms should make it even more reliable. It works pretty well.
