  • 💯💯💯 Replace them with lucent hive as they're way more fun to fight against and we're not forced to use the weapons that bungo makes us use for that season because of stupid champion mods.

  • I don’t mind champions in and of themselves, but I DO mind being forced into a subset of weapons every season and being unable to use mods on the glove slot essentially. There’s a few options but the game is much better when you can use the load out you enjoy.

    • I will agree they shouldn't be used as profusely as they are, though I would rather see more contest mode style for activities where you can't over-level for something in order to feel challenged. There are so many who do afk farming, and if more activities were pushed to a contest mode, this should decently challenge people without the need for champions and restricted loadouts. There IS a huge reason fewer people complete day 1 raids than re-gild conqueror every season. I'd love to see a new activity that caps your level, so you actually have to improvise, rather than over-level and blast through everything effortlessly.

    • Is it really that bad? You play against enemies in a nightfall for max maybe 45 min. You leave and you have the freedom to switch to whatever weapon you want again, mods don’t have to be included. You get what I’m saying?

      • I think instead of the mods being in the artifact, it should be in the weapons, like every weapon should have a level and when you reach a certain level, you unlock the ability to slot in a champion mod.

        • Honestly, I hate the champion mods more than the champions themselves; bugs aside, the latter generally aren't too difficult outside of MRs and M/GM NFs. At the very least, Bungie should just let all of the current champion mods be available from the get-go, while the seasonal artifact ones have reduced energy costs (similar to how some of the mods, such as scav/ammo finder mods, have reduced costs). This way, the seasonal ones are preferred, but not mandatory; would also lessen the need for exotics to have built-in intrinsics to keep them relevant in endgame.

        • They don’t really bother me. If they retooled some of the perk activation requirements (auto and SMG overload), fixed the broken mods (unstop Handcannon), and make some champion types less frustrating to fight (overload captains and chieftains), they’d be fine. I think the system is fine and the mods have enough utility outside of them to warrant use. I also think that if we didn’t have the mods rotate then we’d literally only use the same 3 weapons each season…. I’d like to see them explore some of the alternatives though. Lucent Hive are a great step towards that no matter how obnoxious their shield throws are. Tormentors and Stasis Fallen could also fill those rolls

          Agreed. The system is lazy. There are going to be players who say “disliking the Champion system is a skill issue”. How???? Bungie is giving you the question and answer to the test yet the many answers the question can be answered by is rivaled better with creativity and diversity versus repetitiveness and limitation. This system is designed for players who need their hands held for all the content in the game while advocating for restrictiveness for others because they deem this is the best and appropriate course of play. Bungie’s little minions of “Play my way or Dont play at all” mentality. Designed for players who do not speak up when issues arise because they are too delusional into believing Bungie’s perspective is the only key for the game’s growth and atmosphere. Players say if Champions and their mods wouldn’t exist players would use the same thing, newsflash, what do you think is happening currently with the Champion mod system against the Champions. It is the same nonsense that is being applied from forced META shifts for content and repetitive grind for power level that was lost to weaken your strength, diversity, fun and power you achieve seasons prior. The better terminology of use “Control Your Freedom To Play”. You gotta be a silly little rabbit if you think this system is “Pure Gold”. It is “Pure Cra- or Pure Canc-“ if you had any “Common Sen-“. The Champion system is a “cheat code” design used as a means to play the way the developers want you to play because they lack innovation and creativity for THEIR looter shooter ARPG and do not want you to “enjoy” the game at your own leisure. CHAMPIONS are not necessary for difficulty and the new Heist Backgrounds plus Witch Queen Campaign proves this entirely. Easiest solution for champions since this is a “loot driven or based” game, turn them into loot fairies. You kill a specific type of Champion, it grants an unique enemy theme loot or sunset loot we have gotten removed in the past. Treat them like “Heroic or Legendary Variants of High Value or Wanted Targets” that simply show up to disrupt your progression and loot incentive. You do not kill them, they diminish your loot incentive but if they are all defeated; you are granted double loot, unique enemy theme content or crafted sunset content. Games are meant to be entertaining and fun for all not potential crushing and restrictive.

But to have champion mechanics as a staple in this already boring game is just lazy. Game is already defective, then they added this lazy design permanently. Makes it now a defective and hollow game. This whole game needs an overhaul- just let me kill the boss, let me kill it with what I want and just let me get my loot. Why dues this company have such a hard time with people just playing their game? The kicker for me was Bungie nerfing shaders because they are being used too much. They have totally and completely lost touch with their audience and made a great game almost completely on rails. Make skill levels - so if you want more of a challenge you are properly compensated- don’t make me use your meta every season - I’m really not interested in what you think I should be using..

              • They suck because they limit what weapons we can use. If Bungie would stop using them as a way to control our loadouts, I think "Champion fatigue" would resolve pretty quickly.

                • Champs don’t suck. Bungie sucks. There such an easy way to remedy this by making one of the three types of champions (barrier, overload, unstoppable) correspond to one of the three types of weapons (primary, special, heavy). But we’re talking about the same company that just nerfed Gjallarhorn because THEY made it too strong. They could have buffed every other rocket launcher but no, they nerfed one instead. Why? Because Bungie doesn’t want players to have too much fun and trivialize their game. What Bungie doesn’t understand (and has never understood) is taking the fun out the game makes people not play. I have a theory for why they do this: Playtime. Bungie trivializes it’s own game to inflate playtime. Someone had the great idea that if they make loot harder to obtain more people would play. This is most obvious when they force you to LFG. Any master activity requires it. All raids require it. Without freelance Trials requires it (if you want any hope of not getting stomped). And for most people any GM requires it. This is done intentionally because FOMO is real and if you want the loot you have to have a team -> which elevates playtime and the amount of players. Tl/dr - Bungie uses the current champ system to inflate playtime, that’s why it won’t be changed.

                  • The only unstoppable mods this season are handcannon and grenade launcher. I just dislike the lack of variety. “I have this really good build for end game content! Oh wait I can’t put the right mod on it…”

                      • I don’t mind unstoppable or barrier. Overload is the real pain in the -blam!- They teleport like crazy and their health regenerates nonstop

                        • They would be fine if they were regulated to Strikes. The load out restrictions work there. What doesn't work is adding them into every single activity short of PVP.

                          • Just my opinion If anyone feels like champions are bad then you might need to learn to play the game no matter what content you play they are very easy to stun or kill not hard really there not even annoying at this point there just another enemy to kill

                              • Not having fun staring down unstoppables for several seconds before you stun them? It is honestly sad how seemingly disconnected the Dev's are from the game these days. It almost seems like they are actively trying to make players want to quit playing... but that would be crazy... right?

                                  • The champions arnt a bad mechanic but when the seasonal champion mods are lacking the system stumbles alot. I will give you overloads though they can be a pain.
