Theory: Bungie Manipulates Your Rewards Based On Your Playtime

Have you ever ran a raid 50+ times and don’t have the raid exotic? Have you ran a lost sector 20+ times and have not gotten an exotic armor piece? Well, this may not be attributed to what players are saying is just “bad rng”. As Bungie has stated themselves, there is some measure of “bad luck protection” in the context of raid exotics, however, there is no possible way this is universally true. As of the past 6 months or so, many from the community are complaining about the lack of interesting playable content, and as Bungie, how can you keep players playing monotonous content every day? By preventing players from earning the rewards they’re playing for in the first place. This way, they artificially inflate the time the player base spends on the game, in order to bolster public PR. After all, why is it that the actual odds of acquiring your target exotic isn’t public knowledge? Is it a 1%? 2%? 5% chance? The problem is, nobody except Bungie knows, and this is just a lack of transparency. My theory is that Bungie blacklists players with moderate to high playtime, especially non public players that don’t have a social media platform, thus perpetuating the belief that Bungie simply caters to the elitist players instead of the general player base. Edit: Does the divinity nerf not show you how Bungie caters to the elite yet?

  • I kinda had a suspicion that this wad the case. They should change that because its not fair. Loot should have a % chance to drop and for everytime u dont get said loot your % to get it is increased until you finally get it.

  • I already explained and researched this topic awile ago. Its all weighted on play time and specifically in raids or other playlist. Kings Fall is another example. Newbies with less than 300hrs get exotic in 1 to 3 clears. The more playtime the less the chance . Mine is .05%, so I don't bother. Had it in D1, why not in D2? Because Bungie doesn't care or cater to veterans. They cater to Newbies and whining in pvp. Makes me sick to actually know this, facts are facts I guess.

Only for it to be nerfed or completely diminished or never obtained. I was just checking to see if people were realizing what i did last February

  • I actually agree with this. It took me 46 clears for eyes of tomorrow, 30 clears for vex, 45 clears for collective obligation, and now I'm at 22 clears without getting touch of malice yet. There are guys who have never raided before that I've sherpa'd that have gotten it. We chalk it up to "bad RNG" but in reality it's bungie that dictates the drip rate. I've made multiple posts about how bungie can fix this issue. It's frustrating for the players that consistently raid... let me just say there is a reason bungie removed the exotic from the badge for guardians to obtain the seal....

  • I agree 100% The more you play this game, the less you get. Investing money = sunsetting/vaulting paid content. Investing time = bad RNG and worthless loot.

    • Maybe you have a point. But that's mean, a players who spend 14 hours per week in game have bigger chance to drop red bars, exotic and etc. Same goes about raids, you did full raid clears during week - you have higher chances to get raid exotic. You decided to farm raid boss - lower chance drop of exotic. Basically if you almost don't play in game - you don't get anything, which is alright.

If bungie catered to the elites (which they don't.) they would have followed through on saltagreppos nonsense about nerfing divinity (which is a croppa move.) Edit: lousy iPad keyboard.

      • Oh, I know they do, that's why I stopped playing PvP lol, they can't bully me if I don't play ... wait, is this why I have no red borders, no new exotics, trash rolls on armor and old exotics?

      • Its not a theory, it exists. Bungie and Activision did work on this and did impliment it however, I do not know to what extend or if they continue to use it after the split. Seems very likely though

      • If anything the reverse is true. Stop playing for 2-4 weeks then watch the exotics flow. The carrot dangle and dopamine dump to suck you back in.

      • There's an easy & empirical way to debunk your theory: all the people that get raid exotics on day 1.

        • Idk. I never got Gjally to drop in D1, and I played tf out of it. Took me 42 runs on VoG to get Vex in D2. But since then? Took 2 runs to get Collective Obligation. I got Heartfire after maybe 20. ToM has already dropped 3 times in 14 runs for me. Other half red border dropped my 1st run after they updated. My luck definitely changed for the better. But it wasn’t always like that.
