Suggestion: make "normal" difficulty an option for day-1-raids (for non-elitist players) ?

Hey everyone, with the launch of TWQ approaching (and especially the new raid) I have been spending a lot of time thinking about what to expect from the new raid lately. That led me to ponder over the question how I personally feel about day-1-raids and contest mode in particular. tl,dr: Some people love the day-1-raid experience just for the sake of figuring out the mysterious new content offered by a fresh raid with a group of friends, but have no interest in competing against the rest of the world (and the most elite players out there) on who finishes first. Wouldn't it be nice to offer "normal" difficulty as a choosable option right from the start for those folks, but in return exclude them from having a chance in competing for world's first? --- Raids in destiny have changed my understanding of what cooperative content in a video game can look like. Back in 2014, when I learned about the vault of glass I felt an anticipation for the launch of the raid that I can't compare to anything I have felt ever since (regarding video games lol). That anticipation had nothing to do with the urge to beat the raid before anyone else did, but was solely about the idea of figuring out the mysteries and mechanics necessary to beat the activity. Doing so while accompanied by five people I enjoy playing with increased that excitement exponentially. I feel my current problem is, that the majority of people I want to jump into the raid with are not the kind of elitist guardians preped for a contest mode experience - not regarding PL, but skill and loadouts. But still, they are good friends with whom I want to share the experience of beating a raid for the first time. It usually looks like this: we really want to hit the raid as soon as possible, but ultimately get frustrated by the difficulty of contest mode. So we quit after a few hours and reassemble once contest mode gets deactivated after 24 hours. "Normal" difficulty feels fair for the skill level of my group and even though we're feeling challenged while learning and uncovering the raid's mechanics it feels beatable so we keep trying until we eventually succeed. Of course it will be easy for people to respond "get better and beat contest mode" or "well, then just wait 24 h" but i think, it wouldn't hurt anybody if normal difficulty was a choosable option during the first 24 hours after a raid's release. Of course people who would want to run normal mode shouldn't be able to take part in the world's first raid, so that people who want that challenge all have the same chances. Obviously i don't know if something like this would be technically possible in the first place and I doubt it could be implemented for TWQ raid, but this is something I would really love to see for future releases. :) Now, I'm really interested in your opinion. Are there people out there that feel the same about day-1-raids, or is everyone who is not willing to tackle contest mode fine with waiting 24 hours before venturing into the raid on their own? --- note: I hope my grammar wasn't too poor - I'm not natively english speaking... ~ NaiXcross

We have 24 hours to get the emblem, it shouldn’t be tarnished if people are able to get it on easy mode.

  • The only problem I see with this is World’s first it is a contest to see who can complete the new raid first with contest parameters in place. By allowing a normal mode for casual players to try at the same time births the possibility of a team not in the contest to finish first thereby making worlds first null and void. Pretty sure that’s why it’s the first 24hrs.

    • 1) If you're not up to do a Day-1 Raid....then you're not ready. 2) Day-1 Raids aren't "Elitist". 3) when the Day-1 Raid of DSC launched my Friends and I were literally in the Top 3 to get past the First Encounter. Yes Atraks-1 kicked our Behinds. Thing is.....we weren't "Elitist", yet we were faster then Datto for the First Encounter. 4) No Normal Mode for Day-1 Raids.

    • Just wait the 24 hours. Most people know they won’t be first. But ALOT chase after the day one emblem. But in DSC after the first completion we got the quest for Lament. Which at that time was a God Send in completing the raid.

    • Or just disable contest mode after a team gets worlds first. No point in it after that. Prevents people from using normal to figure out mechanics to share with contest teams and preserves bungies stupid idea of how to make challenging content without locking a lot of the players out of a day 1 clear.

      • It is going to be a bad fing for Worlds First racing, because friends who don't participate can go into easier version of raid and discover mechanics much faster for a team, who is participating or just make day one raid super easy, because you can discover mechanics on lower level and go back into harder version

      • Just play it the next day. It’s that simple. And if your worried about spoilers just stay off the forums/Reddit. The raid is on a Saturday so I’m hoping people aren’t so sad they can’t find literally anything else to do on a Saturday.

      • What a stupid idea! It's called Day one for a reason. If you not good enough just wait 24 hours and you will be good to go in new raid. Stop trying to make everything casual because you not good in specific thing!
