In a trials landscape SBMM hurts everyone. It doesn't benefit the bottom or top players if the goal is to win 7 games in a row without losing. SBMM works towards a 50/50 win/loss ration. If your goal is to kill the playlist then that's an easy way to do it.
What really needs to happen is the loot incentive needs to go way up for participation in general. Old trials gear no longer in the win loot pool needs to be in an after game drop loot pool. They should award 3 tokens for a win and 2 for a loss. There should be non powerful gear bounties that award at least the 3 and 5 win awards if not 3, 5, and 7. Adept weapons need to be a curated roll the first time you get them so that people don't get an unusable roll on their adept weapon. Random roll on first drop hurts the players that struggle going flawless.

I’ve said this too. With SBMM it’s 50/50 7 coin tosses with head up in a row is less than a 1% chance. Obviously I haven’t considered boons for this simple calculation.
