The Darkness Now Vs. Darkness Then
Heya!
First, thank you, NeoZ for replying to my Savathûn post. Your answer made sense, and it makes me excited to dive into Destiny's lore.
Second: In one of the cut scenes at the beginning of the season, Ghost mentions the time the Darkness first came. There's a bunch of stuff where the Traveler made a choice and whatever (which also made the Ghosts) and defeated the Darkness. Are we in the same place as when the Darkness came the first time? Did we ever move to this weird "Milky Way?" What's different this second time around?

There's a running theory that the Traveler only pushed the Deep back via a wager that, given powers, we could be good. The Darkness accepted and left, only to return to tempt us. This ideological war is set to prove who is right in theory, the Sword or the Bomb. So, for now, it's merely talking to us in a very threatening manner (whether said manner is intentional or not is unknown). It's currently undoing the Traveler's work on planets and moons it has terraformed as well as blocking off strategic areas like Titan (which wasn't terraformed by the Traveler). However, I expect it to return to what it was doing during the Collapse once the choice has been made. And when that happens, there will be absolute chaos.>

Are you asking if we are [i]physically[/i] in the same place? Humanity never left the Sol system. Still on Earth. The Exodus program failed, humanity was crippled, and we’ve been rebuilding in the five centuries since the Collapse.
