There is a big problem in Competitive and it should be addressed

Before Shadowkeep was released it was announced that PvP would have skill based matchmaking along with 3v3 Survival only and a Freelance mode. Now I'm not sure how other people felt about it but I can for sure say that I really enjoyed the idea of Survival only and Freelance. Skill based matchmaking was a bit iffy to me just because in other games that have skill based matchmaking it never seemed to really work. Maybe because of boosting in other games and definitely because of recovs in this game. Either way I knew there was a short life span of PvP once Shadowkeep is released. So once the new season started I got my team and played comp for about 5 hours and hit legend no problem. After that I was content on just playing solo for the most part so I can refine my gameplay and try new things. One thing that I have noticed is that there is NO SKILL BASED MATCHMAKING. For the longest time I joked around the concept that maybe I am just bad and there are the players I'm going to get on my team and who I am facing. But it became more apparent that double carrying blueberries did not get me any better players. Occasionally I would be matched with people that I for sure know that are higher tier players. Now do not get me wrong; even in the past seasons, there have been plenty of people who should not be anywhere close to legend, but unfortunately are. I've also come to the realization that there is nothing that I can do about this other than put my opinion out there. Playing Freelance is a surefire way of carrying people to higher ranks unintentionally. It gives them points they actually did not work for. There was also an algorithm that was apparently placed that would constantly change how many points you gain and lose based on performance. Apparently, the better you play, the more higher skilled players you will meet. The mediocre or worse of the other option stops you at a certain level in which case your grind begins. Winning against people with a higher skill rating will gain you more points, but losing to them does not have any major impact in losing glory points. Losing to people who have a lower skill rating will lose you more points, but winning does not have any major impact in gaining glory points. Winning and losing matches has also drastically changed how you gain and lose glory points. If you are on a 5x streak and lose a match, you only lose 2 points off your streak which will leave you at a 3x streak, which will allow you to gain your points back easily. Losing doesn't seem to have any changed affects since last Competitive change. My opinion on a fix? o Remove the safeguard for losing matches. If you lose a game, you shouldn't keep a win streak. If you are at 5500, you should be able to lose all your points. It should not stop you at 2100 ( for whatever reason) o Freelance should not give you the same amount of points as regular Survival. Because the lack of skilled players make it to easy to gain and lose points. Freelancing should not be as rewarding and should be harder to climb. It should encourage skilled players to to test their skills against other skilled players. Let the Wolves hunt, and let the sheeps stay in groups. There should also be a certain rank to attain before allowing you to play Freelance. o If there is a way to punish AFK players or Rage Quitters it should be a lot harsher than "Oops, you haven't completed the competitive game....". I do believe that rage quitting should not affect the players losing points. Although there is a big flaw to that, I would recommend after a certain point of the game leaving or going AFK should not change the outcome of winning or losing. Pre 2nd round, I don't think the team with a lesser player should lose any points. o Disconnecting/DDOS: For any of these mentioned, Bungie already allows you to attempt to reconnect. o Rage Quitting: Should be punishable for more than just 20 minutes (at least that's what I remember) ON ALL CHARACTERS. Switching characters should not let you immediately get back into competitive after being toxic and leaving a game before it ends. o AFK: There's no reason for it, loading into a game and being AFK serves no good purpose for your team. I'm not sure what the timer is before someone gets kicked for inactivity, but I know from experience that people usually won't get kicked until the beginning of the third round. One thing I would recommend that Overwatch does, is give an in-game warning that inactivity will result in being disconnected and in 2 minutes disconnect if player continues to be AFK. Best fix would be a queue ready alert before starting the game, that way there are always alert players ready. o My opinion on changing comp into MMR based: I would much rather this than anything. Placement games to decide where your skill level is at. Maybe 5 games? Based on your performance you will be placed in a rank with the corresponding points. To add to the "algorithm" that Bungie has; win against better players, get more points. Lose to better players lose less. Win against lower skilled players, gain virtually nothing. Lose against lower skilled players, lose a fat chunk of points. o Raise the competitive cap from 5500 to something higher. Possibly way higher OR a Prestige system with corresponding emblems. o Lastly, give Competitive playlist more of an incentive to play. Sure, it is fun in most cases. But after getting every pinnacle/ritual weapon and Unbroken seal. What next? Give use more little rewards like emblems or maybe cooler shaders or even ornaments. I don't know. All in all, PvP definitely needs more love and more incentives to play. Otherwise, these problems are just going to become worse and more unhealthy for the game.
