Remember when people taught you the raid?

I wish the raid community was like in Destiny 1. I can't stand these raid posts, " KWTD have mountaintop and recluse, have every exotic, run this subclass, do a finisher on everything, have every single weapon in the game, use them all at once, wear every armor set at the same time and have all stats 100 on each piece" I just want to do raids ! • same destiny 1 would teach and help so many people, I ran d1 raids 20 times week, plus trails carries after. destiny 2 cant even complete garden because no one really wants help or teach any. got to the final part every time then got kicked. see a lot post's Xbox and pc players willing to teach and help, but ps4 players are so strict and rude. must have 13+ clears or kick, must have emblem with 5 plus clears or kick.

  • On my old account I will always remember this group of guys taking me through kingsfall I met them in the tower, random messaged me saying God roll on my grasp, fancy doing kingsfall? They patiently taught me every encounter even when I was embarrassed that it took 45 minutes to do the jumping ships and the wall even longer. They waited and waited till I got it. I was playing solo till then and that experience changed my destiny experience from then onwards.

    • To me, there are two types of LFG posts. There's the KWTD, which I get. Take a little prep time and learn the mechanics by watching guides. Be equipped for the challenge. Nbd. Then there's "KWTD must have emblem" . Those are scum. You're elitist trash. Also, in my experience, those are the worst players and most dysfunctional raid teams. Usually toxic and annoying players. I would rather take players who've never done it and are there to learn over those braindead pricks anytime. Also, let's think about this for a second: there is a reason that the guy who posts something like "KWTD MUST HAVE CLEARS" is looking for 5. It's because they're so unbearable to deal with that they can't make friends to form raid groups with. They never get invited to raid by others, because they suck. I'm sure there are one or two outliers, but this is generally the case.

        • It's because nowadays teams have to juggle like 4 things to even get to a damage phase, and even then they still have to juggle shit to prevent it from ending early. Raid fights should NOT be "do X, Y, Z". That's what they are. Fights. Not puzzles that now more often than not have some form of artificial difficulty (like the timer in the Shuro Chi fight and the cyclopses in the Sanctified Mind fight). There's a very clear turning point in Destiny's history where the raids have been geared more towards streamers and massive sweats. Now, obviously raids are supposed to be hard by default. But what happened to raid bosses that were hard because they hit hard, not because your team forgot to do Y in X, Y, Z?

          • I wish the raids were like in Destiny 1. You know, decent, enjoyable experiences. I haven't tried the latest turd, but I can assure, the other D2 raids are awful, dull, and just simply lacking in fun. Much like D2 as a whole. D1 - built with passion. D2 - built with incompetence and greed.

            • That kind of sounds like clans at this point. "<Clan Name Here> #7 Requirements: Gotta be on Destiny 2 at least 100+ hours a week, state when and how long you'll be inactive and for what reason, be active with other clanmates at least 75+ hours a week, have a 5+ K/D in the Crucible, must be actively contributing to clan events and do bounties every week..."

              • In D1- it was the same. I was actually gate kept from raiding because I didnt have ToM or Spindle. I needed to finish the raid to get ToM... every lfg I made fell apart cause it would never fill.... never. Now? I'm consistently raiding..... it is amazing what we can do now versus before. People expect you to KWTD cause the effin internet is out and not everyone wants to give you a lecture on how to raid. Even in D1 I did my diligence to watch vids and read guides plus I took notes. Still not good enough to get into the LFG groups (note I sent pics of my notes on discord and my video history and time spent watching) not good enough. I didnt have TOM or a completion so I legit got carried by one of the only nice guys here- Lost Sols. That was the only raid I ever did in D1- the community before was even more toxic and elitist than now. I literally experienced it in D1. Now a days I got a shadow title and I'm chasing unbroken- I raid- I do comp- I get good loot. I'm 100 on the season pass... the game is dummy easy rn- and the community is open.

                  • Because in d1 you didnt need all 6 ppl to know every aspect of the encounter in order to beat it. You could just help ppl through the raid over and over until they caught on. Now you cant even get past the first encounter. Its just 5 ppl sitting there onowing what to do for an hour until the new guy figures it out. Then they are thinking well its going to be about 6 or 7 hours to finish this/ if we even finish it. Why dont we just find someone that already kwtd and we can be done in an hour. See the problem?

                    • the biggest problem I see with raids is as D1 went on it became noticeable that raids needed to become harder (remember how hard we thought King's Fall was) yeah the RoI raid put that to bed. As players have learned how to raid they had to add more team mechanics so you couldn't afford to have someone who doesn't know what is going on at all points. (in VoG you realistically need 3 people who know what they're doing for the majority of the raid, and to guarantee a smooth run, 4 in the final fight.) So, now to have challenging raids they've added mechanics that force ALL 6 players to be able to contribute and actively do some mechanic besides just killing ads and following the sherpa around. This makes it harder to just teach new players what not to do because now you have to teach them what TO do. All of that being said, I was an avid raider in D1 besides the final raid because I didn't play much post-RoI (check my profile if you don't believe me) but I'm really hesitant to run any raid because I'm put off by the toxicity and don't think I'll be able to find a good fireteam who will let me make my first run with tham.

                        • I don't think I'll ever do a D2 raid for a number of reasons. Radar's too small/in a weird area of the screen. First person PoV doesn't lend itself well to mechanically intensive environments(a big reason why I use swords so much.) Only 6 players, meaning a lot of responsibility on everyone rather than delegating individual tasks to groups as in other "true" mmo's. Being in a stressful environment is a recipe for endless anxiety, and guilt if you make a mistake. Really it's just too high-fidelity and stressful to be worth it aside from the very rare chance I play with only people I know during it. Not gonna do anything that's gonna leave me feeling bad in something as petty as a video game, so it's not worth the risk, imo.

                          • I used the Destiny app to LFG for a GoS raid group yesterday. We played for several hours with not a single person raging. We stopped after several attempts at the final boss just because of how long we were playing, but it was a great time figuring out how to do everything . There are still good people out there, just make sure that it’s known that raging and shaming will not be tolerated.

                          • i do remember back in D1, every raid was , you go to the LFG page, pick the first entry and 15 seconds later you were raiding .. easy.. during vault of glass, crotas end prison of elders, and kings fall i encountered not many "KWTD" posts at all. you literally just got on lfg, picked an entry and if you were lucky enough to get the place you found yourself raiding.. and completing.. Now the raids are WAY more mechanic heavy, last wish is a nightmare to teach with the basic principle that one party gets the information the other needs.. like the eyes of riven .. thats maybe content for super high class , fixed 6 man raid teams to give them a challenge. But turns out its not much of a challenge once you learned the ballet. and people speedran the SotP in Strike time we need ot go back to crotas end style where you actually just had to shoot things and maybe had one mechanic at a time and not needed a synchron swimming group performing a ballet. Wrath of the machine was near perfect and Kings fall was great.. Last wish was so complex that apart from some special groups , noone played riven the legit way because the chance of wiping was near 100% this KWTD is the result of a failed raid difficulty design, i wrote an entire article about this a while ago. you need to have at least two difficulties.. one where you dont have the revive tokens and generally more time and venues to solve a puzzle and then the one for te top notch streamers.. its getting more and more silly with those rais requirements.. day 2 of the raid and people were already looking for KWTD teams. and one week later the "must have X clears, must have emblems" are popping up.. one mistake was the display of the number of clears in the emblems.. Being able to beat the raid is not longer the holy grail.. having the raid emblem doesnt mean shlt anymore if you sont have tripe digits displayed in it.. the raid has become the secondary achievement.. now its number of clears and Bungie needs to address this. Post like oh you just have 5 clears you cant talk about XXX is laughable.. the raids are not that complex that you cant have an opinion with 1 or two clears.. and it seems that the clear of a raid is not considered fun anymore but a chore that needs to be done super fast one phase all bosses, shortcuts, maximum dps strategy , max out your build , min/max guide for the raid ... thats ALL wrong.. there should be the possiblity to have 15 damage phases if the team needs it.. why not, who cares, if you can do it in one, let the team take their time and do it their way. noone gets hurt by this, unless they are buthurt .. and i am very sure i will get a post that stating something stupid like "ohh you dan teven have a raid clear" without acknoledging that i cleared every friggin raid since Vaulf of glass on Normal and hard , and thus just making my point, thanks in advance for that unlucky guy, he will get a trophy for this.. =)

                            • I've taught multiple raids to multiple people. I think the problem is alot of people don't have the time to teach raids properly or they're just trying to avoid people who can't be taught mechanics. I think if you just join a group whether they say they want experienced people or not and you're willing to learn they'll help you out. If they don't help you out, you wouldn't want to play with them anyways.

                            • I have done every destiny 1 and 2 raid multiple times, except the new one which I plan to complete this coming week at some point. This problem is twofold First: raids in D2 are far more mechanic heavy (looking at you Last Wish and Crown of Sorrow) than most of the D1 raids, making explaining them to people very difficult especially if they are not used to raiding. Second: many groups just assume people watch youtube guides beforehand (which not everyone does) and tend to be very intolerant of people who are still learning (kick if they wipe 2 or 3 times)

Respawn timer\tokens and whole team required mechanic's killed raiding for a large chunk of layer base IMHO.

                            • As someone who’s been on both sides of this. The KWYD is not an unreasonable expectation. Not everyone wants to explain everything when it can be done in an hour or less, back in rise of iron my reset group and I got all our raids finished in like 2 hours or something, it was nice everyone knowing what to do and where to be. Nothing wrong with forum hoppers wanting that experience. Now as a casual who barely plays I don’t have a lot of the required gear yeah that’s kinda annoying if every post is that but at the same time nothing is stopping anyone from making their own post
