I hate it when neighbors cut down perfectly good trees

Like sure, by all means! A view of the tennis court sounds lovely! Let's cut down the trees over there as well, opening up a lovely view of the highway! I don't get people. Especially in my state where nice deciduous trees are rare.

  • Definitely a dumb move because it decreases property value.

  • Where I live, it's illegal to cut down a tree without permission from the city. If I'm correct, everyone must also have at least 3 trees on their property. (Don't need to be giant trees)

    • I live on a corner lot with a little less than 1/3 acre inside city limits in a “rural subdivision” neighborhood. When I bought it a few years ago, there were 33 trees on the property and 5 stumps where someone before me had cut some down as well. That is just too crowded. I’ve cut down 5 since I’ve been there and working on 2 more. Most of the bigger ones are right near the house. Great for shade.... horrible for foundation. I’ve got one root that has lifted the A/C unit about 6”-1’ off the ground from where it should be. Bad part is the ones that need to come down all have to be topped which means paying someone to come do it.... annnd that would cost over $10G to get it all done. Who’s got that kinda money just sitting around. It’s frustrating that I just can’t do it myself.

    • Trees are nice. But raking leaves and cleaning the gutters every weekend is a pain in the ass.

    • Destroying trees and putting buildings in their place makes me sick. And since I live in the Pacific Northwest, it's sadly common, since they won't stop ushering more people into an already overcrowded area.

    • God, I completely agree. Last year we got new neighbors who immediately cut down all the beautiful trees that shaded our yard in order to put in a swimming pool that STILL isn’t there.

      • My neighbor has been pestering me to cut my tree (probably 50 years old or more judging by size) because it gives to much shadow to his lawn 😤

        • If they are cutting it down because the roots are destroying the foundations or it clears up a view which will increase the property value or if the tree is in danger of falling on the house or other property, yes cutting it down is warranted. But if everything is fine then no, leave it be.

          • Depending on the state, it can be a crime to do so. Which is stupid. If it's on your property, you should have no problems in doing your greenery any way you see fit, unless you live in a sub division with set parameters. My Mom had to have a large maple tree cut down today, for it was hit by lightning in a storm last Friday afternoon. The lightning strike literally blew the bark off the tree in a spiral fashion on 2 sides, and radial fractures all the way to the ground. It was really impressive what a split second of supper heated electrical charge going through the moisture in the wood, and the layer between the wood and the bark, and make it literally explode.
