Whats the current state of the Cabal?

So let's just get a quick summary, the Red war was without a doubt the most catastrophic battle the Red Legion have ever faced. Not only did they loose their Primus and Dominus Ghual but they also lost their second Primus Val ca'uor. Not to mention that they've been attacked on all sides by every race in the Solar system, lost multiple high priority commanders and equipment, AND CANONICALLY GOT BAMBOOZLED BY A DANCE PARTY! So what are they up to now? Calus is sucking up as many Cabal in Sol as possible, there's clearly infighting as seen in the spider bounties, many have retreated to the tangled shore to carve out a (militaristic) living, and lord knows what else I'm just wondering who's leading them? Is it someone in Sol? Or all the way back at their home planet?
also about the whole Primus and Dominus thing, I've always interpreted that a Primus is the sole leader of a legion while a Dominus is the name given to the current ruler of the Cabal ever since Calus was thrown out
The Red Legion is in disarray. Those few who are competent enough are called up by Calus to join his Loyalists in a harsh re-education program. The remainder of the Cabal are scattered throughout the system, governed by the few remaining Blood Guard, Bracuses and Centurions. Here’s my understanding of their current positions by location: Mercury: Originally the survivors of the Almighty’s destruction, and supplemented with supplies and reinforcements by Val Ca’uor shortly after Ghaul’s death, these Cabal now fight a losing war of attrition against the greatest Vex stronghold in the system. Running low on supplies and losing troops by the day, their failure to gain any useful technology from the Infinite Forest has left them fighting a losing battle. After the deaths of the captured Psion Flayers, Valus Thuun, and the Mercury Conquerors, this force is leaderless. Venus: Cabal relays in the EDZ claim there is at least Cabal base on Venus, with which Firebase Hades communicates. Given the disarray felt in the hardest Cabal bases, it’s seems that the Venus branch of Red Legion is so weak as to not pose a threat, if they haven’t been wiped out entirely. Earth: Keeping most of their force in the EDZ, it is unclear what their exact presence is outside of Europe. Their force in the Dead Zone is one of their strongest, though it only fares better than those of Mercury or Venus due to the extensive infrastructure supporting the Firebase. Repeated Guardian and Fallen strikes have reduced the crippled the base itself, as its main artillery cannon, anti-air system, Goliath Tanks, subsystem power and more have all been destroyed over the recent months. The deaths of Ghaul and the Consul as well as Bracus Zahn and dozens of other minor leaders have left Firebase Hades understaffed and undersupplied. Expansion of the base has been halted by Guardian incursions into Lost Sectors, and repairs for damaged equipment seem to have halted. No Lunar Red Legion positions are recorded. Mars: Still the greatest Cabal stronghold in the system (possibly excluding the Leviathan), the Red Legion reestablished the Exclusion Zone in Meridian Bay, finally removing the Virgo Prohibition from the area entirely, and destroying the original Black Garden gate. Firebase Rubicon appears to be their single strongest position, though the lack of offensive strikes from this position implies a lack of troops and supplies even here. Red Legion forces in Hellas Basin continue to fall back en masse, with the deaths of several Psion Flayers, Valus Dulurc and a whole host of Bracuses and Vals. Their failure to gain control of Rasputin or his Braytech left them with a complete mission failure. Phobos still lies empty. Firebase Thuria was left empty, and Fleetbase Korus deemed a lost cause. The Reef: After the Broken Legion allowed a Trojan horse through which the Red Legion tore the Reef apart, the Cabal here were plunged into disarray after Ghaul’s defeat. Systematically rounded up in the year following their failure, the majority of these Red Legion were incarcerated in the Prison of Elders. Escaping during the Prison break, most of the Cabal his across the Tangled Shore, making enemies with the Fallen, Scorn and Hive there. Their numbers continue to dwindle as The Spider sends his contractors and allies to exterminate them. Those who remained within the prison were exterminated by the Guardian, allowing Spider to sell the Prison back to the Awoken. With the majority of the few Bracuses who led their forces dead, the Tangled Shore Cabal have an outlook similar to those of Venus or Mercury. Io: With Terrabase Charon invaded and destroyed by Vex and Taken, the Cabal no longer have a permanent presence here. Aside from intermittent drilling crews, the Red Legion have been pushed from this Moon. With the decimation of the fleet that accompanied Val Ca’uor’s death, these crews can only be expected to decrease. Titan: There is no Cabal presence here. The Dreadnaught: With the discovery of parts from Primus Ta’aun’s flagship, Dantalion Exodus, inside Firebase Hades, it is confirmed that the Skyburners distress signal reached the Red Legion. Presumably, the Red Legion pulled the last of the Skyburners troops and supplies from the Dreadnaught, leaving zero presence on the ship. Nessus: The true Cabal seat of power is Calus’ Leviathan, sitting in orbit around Nessus. As for the Red Legion, Nessus was their strongest fleet position until that fleet’s destruction at the hands of Guardians and Calus. Without ships to move supplies and troops, those Red Legion left on Nessus are left without strongholds or supplies. The deaths of Primus Cal’aug, Kargen and Val Ca’uor have left the Cabal leaderless, with their drill sites and incursions into the Insight Terminus providing no useful advantage in their disadvantageous position. In summary: The Red Legion fleet connects between the Legion’s last Bastions: Meridian Bay, Firebase Hades, and the Cistern. I’m by no means an expert, so let me know what I got wrong.

    • I really hated how D2 made all the enemy factions lose all variety. Rest in piece Cabal factions and Fallen houses. Kinda want to see more unique sub factions of the enemy races.

      • The current Cabal seat of power resides in orbit over Nessus, inside a giant fish.

      • Dominus Ghual. Seems like fitting successor to Dominus Ghaul. Anyway, my opinion is that this game is, as I’ve stated before, feigned over by 2 major powers: Gameplay-Wise and Lore-Wise. The fact that the red legion is in the Tangled Shore is probably supported by lore, yes, but the main reason is because we need things to kill. Same with fallen everywhere. I still can’t believe they aren’t on Io. That’s mainly it. We just need things to kill. Cabal are killable. Cabal are there. Done. If it made sense, the red legion would already have dispersed into factions, but since Bungie seems too lazy to even put Devil’s colors on the fallen in the Outbreak Perfected mission, I doubt it’s ever happening.

        • I'm not entirely sure, but I think Calus is the emperor of the entire Cabal empire. The red legion of course broke away from the empire and sought to overthrow calus and his empire. Since we've almost entirely destroyed the red legion, Calus challenged us to prove our worth and we succeeded and have now basically befriended him I guess. So on that standard, I think the guardians and the main cabal empire are now allies? Or at least at a mutual agreement? Not really sure on that though.

          • Believe it or not, Calus is actually going to help the Guardians take down a greater threat in an upcoming season pass event. Oops I’ve said too much already.

          • Aren't all of them either part of The Broken Legion(red legion, but is cooler this way) or Callus's elite? I'd imagine that some of them are still "home" wherever that is for the Cabal. They are "master" strategists, there is most likely some empire being built up in the background that even the Cabal in our System dont know about.

                  • The Red Legion went in pieces. After Val Ca'uor, no one took the place as Dominus for what we know. They ended up stalled on Mercury against the Vex and on Mars against the Icy Hive. What remained of the Red Legion just scattered around the sol system in small disorganized groups. Many of them were captured and jailed in the Prison of the Elders. Some of them even defected, like Garut Gra'am and his followers. They tried to find a safe place in the Trappers Cave on the Tangled Shore. The most notorious of these groups were the Unbowed Legion that tried to take the control of the EDZ in order to make a new base there during the Solstice Event. However, they were destroyed by the Guardians... Loyalist with Calus seem to be just fine on the Leviathan still orbiting around Nessus and as we know Calus invited us Guardians to become his new Shadows. About the other Cabals already present in Sol System from D1, I have no idea.

                    • I suppose Callus tool control of the majority of the Cabal Empire now and the Red Legion is no longer a threat, wich means i suppose we are no longer at war with the cabals and we are fighting rebels. But this it not sure.

                          • Lore states that the Red Legion’s leadership is broken to the point where they can’t recover. The remaining officers are divided and disorganized, leading whatever troops they have for personal gain and to survive.
