Planets and Their Patrols, Public Events, Lost Sectors, and "One and Done" Locations

TL;DR Planets are boring, useless, and need a lot of work to make interesting/useful. One problem with patrols and any of the visit-able locations in Destiny 2 is that there are so many unique spots that the player visits during a story mission and never goes back unless a quest say "Grab/Kill thing here". It would be a wise decision to add some of those locations as patrol zones with unique public events. For example: The radio tower in the EDZ during the Curse of Osiris campaign. The area around the radio tower is huge and has many opportunities for public events and extra EDZ content. Imagine a public event in that area where Devrim himself needs to hookup some communication devices to the tower and asks us to help protect him. The public event would have a stolen fallen shield around Devrim and our job is to find batteries from the attacking fallen and power the shield. If the battery gets to 10%, Devrim will stop working in preparation of emergency evacuation (transmat). That is one example of how a once "One and Done" location can be made interesting again. In Nessus there is that one cave where there is a giant red glow in the center that we visit two - three times that could easily have more area added too. Mercury has the Infinite Forest that should be randomly generated patrol zones that change maybe weekly or tri-weekly (curse rotation). The Dreaming city has, well, the city. Io has the Pyramidion which has limit less possibilities (as said in the strike). And the tangled shore has the High-plains which is used very little and has no reason to not be a patrol-able area. Titan, one of the most requested places has the entire Arcology where we saw the giant fields inside the cayde's stash mission and the CPU one. Even the Solarium - the first room you enter - has a great possibility for a public event. One thing about public events is that there is no reason to complete the heroic version of the event when you are going to get the exact same rewards as completing the normal version. Heroics need to be harder and more rewarding. Heroics should be the normal versions. Another problem with public events is that there is only one-two possible events at one given area that always spawn at the same spot (You'd think they would know better by now - Sloane). It would also be interesting if some public events could be started manually. For example: When the fallen pikes roll around, if all dregs are killed a group of vandals come in search of them, if they are killed some higher ups come to attack bringing spider tanks, heavy shanks, giant servitors etc. starting a big battle. Another thing about public events and public patrol areas is that we need to bring more people together when these happen by reducing the amount or instances a player can load into to induce more guardians fighting the harder heroic events. Public events should also be hidden from the map to make them more difficult to find (there is reason to this later). Now for lost sectors. Lost sectors have little to no purpose even after their "improvement" in Forsaken. In Forsaken we got some pretty unique lost sectors in the Tangled Shore like the secret fallen club. We need more unique sectors like the ones on the Tangled Shore on all planets because as of right now they are all the same, walk in, kill guy, grab crappy chest loot, walk out, repeat. Lost sectors need the ability to be made heroic by finding some secret path to take in a sector that leads us to a different bad guy that has some more health and maybe mini mechanics. To make it so that the heroic sectors aren't the only thing people do when they go into one, is to make it so that it is only available randomly during the week. Another problem with lost sectors is that we can see them on the map making them found and known. Lost sectors need to be removed off of the map to make them more lost and causing players to learn the names and locations of their favorite lost sectors. Planetary vendors also need to change location from time to time to make things more interesting. The EDZ is a big place with lots of places to hide and Devrim is still unnoticed in his church tower after nearly 2 years? Anna Brey has access to a huge facility and decides she is only going to stay at one big window? Moving the vendors around their planets adds more immersion in the sense that they have jobs to do and aren't always going to be at the same place. Another change that needs to be made to the vendors is that we need planetary tokens back or some other form of currency that doesn't involve us wasting materials in getting useless gear. Speaking of useless gear, Planetary Vendors should be able to be leveled up in order to gain more useful gear. Imagine a system where we can level up a vendor to level 100 by completing patrols, Public Events, or Lost Sectors. To level up, each activity will give different amount of progress where patrols take the longest at, say 200 patrols per one level. Heroic public events would be the fastest way at roughly 25 to 30 events in order to level up. Each levels gives a powerful piece of gear and handful of planetary materials. Certain levels allow for certain items to be purchased with tokens, glimmer, or shards. For example, Level 5 allows for purchase of small amounts of materials, Level 10 allows for low level armor with set perks, Level 15 gives a way to turn in materials for glimmer, or shards, level 20 allows for mid level gear with set perks, Level 25 allows for a purchase of a one time random powerful exotic, level 50 is mid level gear w/ random perks, level 75 is high level gear w/ random perks, and level 100 is an exotic specific to the vendor (No Land Beyond = EDZ) Each level in between certain increments will give discounts on certain items or access to random gear like shaders, mods, ghosts, ships, and sparrows. Planets should also have mini social spaces where players are safe and can access things like the vault, and bounties. There should also be a map of the local area that shows intel from scouts as to when public events may appear and which one it may be. With this change to the way players find public events, there could also be ghosts for each planet that have a perk that give information on when public events may happen. Imagine the crucible kill tracker ghost except it informs you when and where a public event is about to begin. Changing the way each systems works on planets is key to making them interesting to the player base. Right now there is little to now reason to explore lost sectors, do patrols, or complete public events. With changes like these, planets will become a bigger part of player time investment and give players more interesting things to do other than strike, crucible, and raids.
