To: Bungie Devs in regards to D2 on PC

Hey y'all, been a bit since I posted on the forums. Congratulations on shipping SotD, I'm enjoying it so far. Congratulations on getting full control of the Destiny IP, I'm super proud of you guys and look forward to your work as an independent studio (for now at least). TL;DR: Battle.net is bad and Destiny should use something else. Bungie deserves a platform that can effectively deliver news and content to their players. Bungie's players deserve a platform that encourages communication and civility between players. Bungie deserves a platform that doesn't work to draw its players away from it. I would like to give some feedback on the PC experience of Destiny 2. The blizzard launcher/battle.net launcher is not very good. Of all of the game launchers, it is one of the worst launchers in the PC ecosystem. I cannot provide much feedback on what would be a good alternative because I'm not entirely sure what your needs are for PC, but I can share some of the reasons that battle.net isn't working for Destiny. Perhaps you can take these things into consideration while you decide where to put Destiny 3 or perhaps you can reconsider and allow us to launch D2 from another launcher. 1) Battle.net doesn't support any type of community content. I love that we have the forums, but it seems silly that I would have been unable to do Niobe labs because I am not part of the Destiny reddit nor do I use twitter (for personal reasons). You admitted yourselves that level 7 was bugged and had to send out a tweet so that we could solve the puzzle. I shouldn't need to go to twitter for that information. Your platform should provide you with the ability to deliver that kind of relevant information to all of your players. 2) Battle.net has bad social features. I noticed this from the instant that I first played Overwatch, which was (I think) my first non-Steam game. Having such poor social features hurts the player to player interactions on PC. I personally blame the toxicity of the PC community (or the perception thereof) entirely on our inability to communicate with other members of the community. I blame the ineffectiveness of matchmaking in end game activities entirely on the inability to communicate. Communication should be incentivized. Go ask Cammy Cakes how he feels about in-game chat and communication between teammates. If people actually talked to each other in game competitive wouldn't be so daunting and raids could use matchmaking. I know that the game does technically support voice chat, but it is not used. Everyone on PC is basically required to use Discord for communication. There's a disconnect when the community says, "Voice chat is a requirement for raids/Competitive/Shattered Throne/etc.." but doesn't use the chat built into the game. Heck, why not just integrate Discord into the game? If everyone is using it, why not support it? They have a storefront. Food for thought. 3) Battle.net is Activision's launcher, and Activision really wants Destiny players to buy Activision-Blizzard game. The Battle.net launcher is designed to make you feel like you need to own all of the games on the launcher. You cannot hide the other games on the launcher. They put Destiny at the very bottom of the list so it's in the least visible place. I mean, come on. You may have had an amicable split from Activision, but Destiny no longer makes direct revenue for them. They have a lot to gain from pushing ads onto Destiny players and pulling them into their products. I'm not sure what the revenue split is between you and battle.net, but I'm sure of two things: it's not better than you could find somewhere else, and it's not going to improve with time. Sorry to ramble, these are my thoughts. I hope that you can continue supporting the development of this wonderful universe. Best of luck in your next adventure, I look forward to continuing the ride.
