What's the future of the Crucible?

I love this game. I'm a hardcore Crucible junkie through and through. I'm going on my Unbroken title this season and I'm ecstatic about that. I have some questions that I am sincerely asking. 1) What feedback is Bungie considering in regards to Crucible design for present and future features and investment strategies? 2) Are there plans to invest in the Crucible down the road with more depth? 3) Will the Crucible still be in the game going into D3 or future seasons? (genuine question based on the path I've observed in D1 to D2) 4) Do the development decisions around the Crucible consider the prioritization of rewarding investment of skill, knowledge depth and dedicated learning curves or is a power fantasy the center piece of the future competitive side of Destiny? 5) I can haz recon? I don't want to leave this game, I'll be the last to jump ship. I think I represent my PvP peers more maturely than the stigmas often associated with us "sweaty players" do. However, the lack of attention is starting to wear on me personally. I find myself defending this game more times than I feel it's becoming worth it. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for more attention from the developer side, or at least transparency as to future plans or reasons for decisions. I am more than happy to provide specific feedback on things I think would fulfill what this demographic of Guardian (a diehard PvP fan like myself) enjoys. I do not feel like it's heard by Bungie, prove me wrong.

  • Now I'm not trying to be toxic, I'm just going to say what I've witnessed as a PvE orientated player: After YEARS of Destiny containing Control, it seems that many people read 'Control' as 'Clash'. Less zones = less points on kills = losses, no matter how good people are. Imo, they should just remove Control and have Clash/Rift from D1 as their flagship mode. As a solo player (who also isn't fantastic at crucible) losing a match in Comp removes far too much progress. More often than not your matched against 2/3/4 stacks which instantly puts you at a disadvantage due to lack of communication with your team. And really, who uses Fireteam/Team chat? Nobody I've matched with. And finally, theres the omnipresent issue of weapon overuse. I'm not going to name specific weapons (if they spring to mind for you, I'm probably referring to them) but it feels like playing Crucible sends you (is does me at least) insane: repeating something in the hopes of getting a different result i.e. not getting blasted to hell by the same old supers and weapons. I'd like some real feedback/advice and not the predictable 'git gud' BS people spout on these forums, because I want to enjoy crucible, and I want to stand a chance at getting something like The Recluse (big fan of SMGs so its a shame this is such a painful slog for me).

        • Yeah i completely agree with ya man. This is exactly the problem i see i just couldnt think of the words to say and you hit the nail on the head. It really really does feel as though pvp is being neglected heavily. One of the reasons i think is that bungie thinks gambit is partially pvp content which i would say is false and they think trials is terrible due to the constant complaining by ungreatful people who want participation trophies. They really need to realize that the reason people complain about things isnt always that they hate it. Alot of the time is because they love it so much and want to make them better! I think on our part we can give little subtle suggestions instead of yelling about broken stuff all of the time and also make posts about what we like about things instead of just what we hate. Sound right?

I played a bunch yesterday, but it is pretty discouraging to see the Destiny Tracker number down to around 400,000 for yesterday. Overall population wasn't really up either, even with a weekly reset and (barely any) new content. It seems like just a week or two ago someone posted about population being under 600,000 and now we may be under 400,000 today. I guess I can dismantle the vault full of stuff I've been keeping in case they drop a balance change. Based on Murphy's law, that might lead to the balance change people seem to want.

Why would look for this in a loot based rpg space magic game? It makes no sense to me. There are already games out there that do this and do it better? I don't get it and I never will.

                            1. Poor matchmaking system drives away many players. 2. Poor weapon balance (shotgun abuse and too much hand cannons) makes pvp bland and boring. Op roaming supers dont help either. 3. Lack of gamemodes, large maps , options and veriety dont help. Overall, crucible is a very poorly designed experience. Many people have grown to hate pvp evident by the player numbers and forum posts (especially with the last word quest). Those that do like the crucible are a minority of the population. Bungie must have realised this and decided to step back from pvp content for the time being. Which is why there is no plans at all for trials, maps, gamemodes etc. It does make me question though, what is bungie doing? Dont they have the workforce and resouces to keep up with the game to a level of decency since the activision split? Are they developing destiny 3 and decided give up and minimize development of d2?

You may be just a really good gamer and just have a great skill set. One of the biggest problems plaguing Crucible is the gamers that feel they need to cheat to win. LagSwitchers and those who found ways of putting hacks into the game. You may be lagit, but the AssClowns that are not are causing others to avoid that game mode. Cheating is making it unplayable!

                                • Yo, thank you for this. I relate at a deep level and appreciate your demeanor and depth of thought in this post. Crucible is why I play this game, but the bad days are starting to affect my desire to get on in hopes for a good day. I still think the sandbox is in a pretty good state overall, but comp still feels like a diseased playlist, and 6 months of quickplay is no PvP end game for me. At this point, I’m wondering if Bungie even has a Crucible team at all? Feels like they have to bring in a contracted third party to deal with any of this, or something like that. Pretty much the only way I can imagine them justifying the non-response for this long.

                                  • Unfortunately PvP Sandbox team never share their plan, even on TWAB. Actually this game PvP is quite fun and challenging. They only need to address issues in balance, matchmaking and map design. they are very bad in that area.

Guessing its not good. Wont be surprised if player base daily stat drops to CoO levels in the next few weeks. If/when that happens, it will make everything really ugly for a while. Bungie is only listening to a select group of streamers. They have had 2 or 3 summits now. Anyone unhappy only has one option. Put the game down for a while. Bungie and deej said it a few years back. Speak with your time. Unhappy and playing, dont expect any change. The only thing that will cause change, is seeing that the current direction is leading to CoO player base or worse.
