There is now a PC port of killer7 after 13 years since its original release
Some of you may have caught this back in November, but for a very large majority of the gaming crowd this release flew under the radar. Its initial trailer turned many away at the sight of a frame counter, with people suspected it to be a packaged Dolphin emulator. It received little to no marketing, and the release date came literally out of nowhere.
If you don’t know what killer7 is, the premise is simple. You are Harman Smith, the leader of the assassin group called “killer7”. However, he can manifest as seven other different personalities, effectively being the whole group at once. The actual plot of the game however is not so simple. I won’t spoil it, as it’s a great watch on it own and one has to simply experience it for themselves. The actual world it takes place in is where airplanes and the Internet have been banned to reduce the likelihood of terrorism. The world is connected via large intercontinental highways and analogue communications.
Well, it came out finally, just last year. It’s not running on Dolphin. It’s a port to the actual x86 architecture, and it runs on anything DX11 capable. It has keyboard controls along with the standard controller layout. It runs at 60 FPS; the only time it doesn’t is with certain reload animations. There’s now English subtitles for the English language selection of the game, something that wasn’t in the PAL or NTSC-U releases of killer7 on GameCube and PS2. The PC port is based on the (superior) GameCube version. You can choose between which release of the game to play on with each region’s quirky differences. On top of that, it’s only $20 on Steam. Compared to $30-$70 for a full physical copy (or stealing an ISO off the web to emulate), that’s a pretty good deal.
So, if you’re looking for something new to play, check killer7 out. It’s not for everyone, but without a doubt the experience will stick with you.
