Receiving Light Level 500 items at Level 20, and infusing them completely breaks the character.

After playing some crucible, I keep getting light level 500 drops while I'm at level 20. These may be rewards for valor rank up(?) rather than drops, since they happen a few seconds after drops I get when a match finishes. I don't have DLC, and seeing these kinds of issues, I'm obviously not inclined to buy Forsaken. I've consistently gotten these level 500 drops both guns and armor pieces that tell me I can't use them until level 43. I figured maybe if I infuse the level 500 items, maybe it'll let me use them. I tried here with this "wing contender" cloak I picked up, using the precious enhancement cores, infusing it with the dragonfly wings. It ended up being equipped to my character but I noticed the cloak model doesn't show ingame, and I noticed my light level actually went DOWN with it equipped, so it seems like the item is just bugged out and the game doesn't think I have anything equipped at all in the cloak slot anymore. I have linked 2 images to show the item "equipped" in my inventory and also to show the item model not showing up. Please fix your drops, fix your game, and fix the items on my account.

  • Clearly we know what happened here, so there's no need to go over that. But it's definitely bugged. The game shouldn't be dropping gear that you can't use it, it definitely shouldn't be letting you infuse it. This all just looks like another one of Bungie's shady tactics to get players to buy their DLC, hold your earned rewards at ransom until you pay up. You can't equip items that require a higher character level than your character, so if you infuse something above your level into an already equipped item, this is what you get. Since the item is above your level, it automatically disables, and as we know, our power level is added up based on the total average of all our equipped gear. So, an item that isn't equipped translates to a power level of 0, hence your power level going down. Swap the item for something else in your inventory and you'll be fine. However, you won't be able to use that infused item again until you upgrade to Forsaken. Neither the item nor your character model are "broken". This has been how things have worked since D1 and is not an error. The error was you trying to infuse something into your equipped gear that you obviously don't meet the requirements to use. Rank up packages dropping at a 500 minimum though is a separate issue. I'm not sure why they have it at a set minimum.

More like you need to buy the DLC if you want to increase that level.
