Cluster Strat isn’t a “Cheese”
It’s maxing out DPS and using classes to their max potential. If you consider that a cheese, please never play another MMO of any sort because everyone will hate you and I don’t want you to have to deal with that. Literally the entire point of games like this are to min max your character and use them to their fullest potential.
Now if you had to glitch something to get it to work, I’d say it’s definitely a cheese. But you don’t have to glitch anything. Just pump out enough DPS with the correct load out.
Edit: as per request I’m clearing something up. I don’t think destiny is a full blown mmo but it is an mmo lite.
Edit 2: to be clear, I consider a cheese anything that glitches the game in some way. For example, pushing atheon of the ledge is a cheese because you skip damage to him. Riven isn’t a cheese because you still have to do the damage to her. That’s just my opinion obviously

In a way it's a cheese but there's nothing wrong with it. It's just taking what's already in the game and maximising it's potential with buffs, damage multipliers etc... Many mmo games have similar mechanics.

Currently, there is nothing to block riven from retreating. If there was a way to nullify Riven's eyes and to prevent it from retreating, then that would be a cheese. The only thing that is a cheese at that boss fight is using the "joining allies" mechanic to teleport back up to middle when you choose the wrong side. An example of a boss cheese is the infamous elevator drop onto Pyropete's face from borderlands 2. You are using a game mechanic outside of its intended use to kill the boss instantly. Another thing, when players want to run quick nightfalls you dont hear them saying "Hey, lets cheese some nightfalls." Instead, you would hear things like "[i]we are going to speed run and spawn kill the boss.[/i]" Killing the boss legitly through sheer damage before it can activate its mechanics is not a cheese. Its a blitz. I do agreee that bypassing the mechanics reduces the quality of what the raid has to offer. A simple fix to the damage blitz is just to make the boss immune when it reaches a certain health percentage, like with the fanatic in the hollowed lair strike.

2 RepliesYou are skipping mechanics that is a cheese. If you went through the symbols on two floors with eye call outs. And you did the cluster strat then by all means do that. But you are skipping the hard part of the mechanic. Now when they have a damage gate and your forced to do eye call outs good luck.

What I do know is when I post for a full run of the raid legitimately, I know you cannot do Riven fairly. I know you do not have what it takes and quite frankly that is all I need to know. Hmmm... people call it a cheese for a reason. The term does not just become part of a gaming language just because players feel like just saying it one day. Even the people that are able to admit it and do it will disagree with you. Whether it is those that accept they sought a shortcut or those who care so little of it, you will be in a limbo of denial because you fail to accept who you are and what you did, a cheeser that cheese'd. So can you not put yourself on the same level as me, and others like me? The truth is you are not, and until proven, will never be.

Here's why it's a cheese: you need to be higher light than recommended to do it. A team of 550's at the begining of the raid can fight their way through to Riven with whatever gear they have gained from the raid and not be able to complete the cluster strat simply because they don't have the horsepower. Learning the mechanics of the fight and executing them actually opens the final encounter to a far wider spectrum of power levels.

Yeah, once I saw a group do it with 6 rat kings, I knew it was just a matter of outputting massive dps.

You skip: 1.) stunning and eye call-outs 2.) small damage phase 1 & 2 and eye popping 3.) cleansing/reading symbols 4.) 3x stun phase/small damage phase 3 and 6 eye pop 5.) “pimple popping” You also either use a map exploit or wipe if the boss doesn’t go to the right room because you then can’t do your cheese and if you fail to do your cheese you are then wiped. It’s also a cheese that is used to speed run the boss and skip all mechanics, similar to how speed runners use map exploits to run through levels in mere seconds and skipping every mechanic of the level. Furthermore, it’s used by people to complete something they normally could not if they were forced to complete the encounter as it was designed and as the worlds first teams had to discover how to complete. This strategy was not intended by bungie, it was an oversight in riven’s design. If they had simply forced the two teams of three to separate sides and allowed no possible way of getting six people to one room, this would not exist. If they had segmented riven’s health similar to Shuro Chi, this would not exist. It is a cheese. Period. And you don’t deserve the clears or the loot if you can’t do it legitimately. It’s a shame bungie isn’t on top of this shit how they should be, because it completely devalues the raid experience when this can happen. Nobody cares about crota because you can solo the raid. If they had designed it correctly and forced players to follow mechanics as designed, in all raids, then they would hold a more true prestige to them.

4 RepliesIt's absolutely a cheese. Cheesing is anything that completely trivializes or ignores the majority of a fight's mechanics, regardless of the manner in which you do it. Now, the difference between this cheese and previous cheeses like throwing atheon off a cliff is it's entirely bungie's fault for balancing the fight poorly to allow it to happen, and not the result of a glitch, exploit, or unexpected/unintended player positioning.
