Who prefers d1's subclass customization over d2's static subclasses?

I went back and played d1 for the first time in months and it shocked me how much better it felt because I could tune my abilities to my liking. Thoughts? Edit: Man, I did not expect to get this many responses. I posted this and went to bed last night and just woke up. I wanted to say I was running sunbreaker with simmering flames, max discipline, and armamentarium. Grenades for days. Edit 2: I see people arguing, but im just happy I made it to the top of the trending page. Thanks! Edit 3: Hey Bungie, ARE YOU LISTENING YET! This is disgusting...a "whats your favorite..." post gets Bungie-bumped up to 603. Heres what REALLY needs to be done... -Heroic Strike playlist with D1 mods instead of the garbage D2 mods -Ikoras Meditations in weekly Milestones...with D1 mods -Tower Kiosk with all previously acquired legendary ships/sparrows/ghosts (excludes Eververse) -Cross Infusion -ReRoll Perks -Prestige Raid exotic primaries with elemental burns -Raid and Raid Lair legendary ships/sparrows/ghosts -Xur sells Masterwork Cores Once all this is in the game THEN we can worry about other minor stuff. Edit: My completely logical response to this post keeps getting downvoted to zero while this pointless post goes up 5 bumps every minute. Suspicious much?

      • Poll after poll shows players prefer Destiny 1 systems over Destiny 2 by margin of 80% to 20%. Yet Bungie ignores their most valuable customers. We the sweaty plebs simply do not understand their sublime “vision“. #Section8TheSandboxTeam

i'm not sure it matters. not that many vanilla d1 players left. this game just isn't going to feel like d1. you're never going to recreate year1, pulling the net cord on crota, the very first trials on mercury, felwinters lie. it's never going to come back. more toxic players now, new generation of grinders who don't even know what they missed. d2 is a casual game. i play a few strikes, a nightfall here and there. ran a few raids. LOL at D2 tryhards. the game just isn't exciting. it's something to do when you're bored. game does play amazingly well on pc and that platform has the smallest playerbase {shakes head} i mean. when i see guys grinding for hours trying to get nightfall weapons i just wonder what the hell is wrong with them? destniy 2 shouldn't even exist really. all of this should have been a content drop on top of D1 making one very large game. d2 is just a reminder that all of your best memories are just that....memories due to forced obsolesce

        • D2 feels more like a beta for D1. We’re all so tired of it that we hardly talk about it anymore, but there’s no doubt that Bungie slapped a half ass D2 together to take advantage of D1 loyalists that naturally expected D2 to be an improvement on D1. There were of course a few hints in the reveal and the actual D2 beta, but for the most part deception ruled. D2 was never meant to be anything other than a low maintenance money grab.

Hmm, Bungie created D1 Y1 to where your Guardian felt powerful then PvP was introduced. PvP gamers, YouTubers, Streamers started crying how everything was OP so here comes the nerf happy team that even though they claimed they have a chart that shows every aspect of a weapon for every weapon in this game they start nerfing the most popular and it's entire category and called that "balancing" the entire game. For the next 2 years, the nerf happy team went on a rampage of nerfing everything in the game. Everything in between revive to your super and they even took it a hell of a lot further than just your characters. Ooh! that flower is too yellow, nerf it! So here we are D2 to where the Guardians are wimps and playing dress up and some gamers say D2 is Better?
LMFAO
Edit: Yes, there is room for improvements but that should have happened already. Not, hey, if you buy this next DLC you might see "some improvements". IMO there are way too many concerns with this next DLC that I feel it's going to make matters worse due to the fact of this companies actions this entire year. Bungie really needs to form an actual form of communication. The "community summit" was nowhere near it.

              • I understand that many people prefer the d1 subclass system over d2 but I don’t think the customization has as much to do with it as the lack of power does. Personally I, and I believe many others, never changed my stats after having fully unlocked a skill tree but it took time to do so and the perks that were being unlocked complimented the abilities I already had making me feel more powerful and I think that aspect is what d2 is lacking more so than customization. I know you haven’t asked for this and I haven’t read all the comments so I’m not sure if anyone else had but just in case a want to make it clear that the d1 system should not be implemented in d2 but instead they should build onto the current d2 system. My idea of how they would do so is by adding the “y” button functionality (I’m an Xbox player) that they have on weapons to all the abilities in the game. When you press y on the abilities it would take you to a screen where you can view its stats and in the screen they would have added some of the mode used complementary perks that aren’t currently in the game or maybe add new ones. You could gain ability points by using that specific ability and getting kills with it and use those points to upgrade the stats of the abilities such as regen speed, damage, if it’s any AOE ability the AOE, or unlock the supplemental perks. I believe this would add a feeling of time investment being worth it and bring back the sense of power many people are currently missing. I know this could seem like it breaks the game in some ways but it would give top tier players the ability to challenge themselves more and lower tier/casual players the ability to make the game more fun for them the more they play and potentially take on those harder end game activities that might have eluded them with the current system.

              • Why not something like a borderlands skill tree system? Bear with me here. So it looks as if they're wanting each subclass to have a different 'super' and I think that's great! But, for those who've played the game "Borderlands", picture the skill tree. Up top, you have your 'super' with three trees below. This allowed so many different options on building your character up! Now, of course there's always that 'one build everyone runs', but there's still so much choice. Now, take that skill tree system and let's take the gunslinger for example in the Forsaken stage. You now have 'Golden Gun', with three different trees. Left tree focuses on the three shots, with extra crit damage, the right tree focuses on the six shooter. The middle, I leave to Bungie. Maybe turn nighthawk into it? If you want flaming knives, well there's a second page in the Gunslinger class with it's own different paths to take. Maybe more knives (more throws), explosive knives and some other mutation. The best part about this perk system, is that you don't have to go down just one tree! You can put perks in to either one, but you have to invest more perks to get further down the tree (as well with leveling up). Q: How would this affect jumps and grenades? A: There are three different jumps and three different grenades per 'skill tree' we have now. Since this isn't borderlands, we can mutate this to be our own. The left, middle and right trees would contain one of each. Here's the great catch! Both the jump and grenade perks are at the very beginning of the tree! So, by level six you'd have them all, if that's how you wanted to spend your points. Once you have spent a skill point on more than one jump, or grenade, you can swap between them seamlessly, keeping the choices open. Not only would this idea give way more diversity to the classes we have, it would allow Bungie to have an easier time tweaking, adjusting and even adding more things to these trees as time goes by. By the way, these trees could affect cooldowns on everything! Each grenade perk, if leveled up enough could have some great mutations the more it's leveled up! (Maybe max out at 3 or 5?) For example, Scatter grenades at max level would have more projectiles and better tracking. For the many years I've been playing Destiny in general, I've noticed that in both games they've tried to make skill trees simple yet helpful. I give both games an A for effort, but both games made me feel like they sorta lost direction with it. D2 especially. TL;DR Make the skill trees similar to that of the Borderlands games. It's a simple, yet very impacting system.

              • D2 has more interesting perks but you can’t mix and match, D1 has absolute shit for their perks to the point you have one good one, a choice between two bad ones and you don’t even bother picking the rest. Mix both versions as it’s great. Unless you put all the good perks in the first tier choice, then it sucks again.

                  • We had options but Bungie and the community wanted a balanced game(bungie in it for MLG) Thus Destiny2 was born. Miss all my old options for play styles. Except for the old shader system, that can stay in the past lol.

                  • D2 subclasses do NOT need immediate attention from Bungie...heres a list of things Bungie SHOULD be working on IMMEDIATELY -Heroic Strike Playlist needs D1 modifiers...NOT D2 modifiers. -Ikoras Meditations should be a weekly Milestone...with D1 modifiers. -Tower Kiosk for previously acquired legendary ships/sparrows/ghosts. (excludes Eververse) -Banshee weekly loot table of legendary weapons directly purchasable with Gunsmith Materials instead of just the RNG engram. -Xur should sell Masterwork Cores. -Cross Infusion -ReRoll Perks -Prestige Raid exotic primary weapons with elemental burns. -Raid and Raid Lair legendary ships/sparrows/ghosts. -Rarity Upgrade System (find a rare you like?...upgrade it to legendary!)
