Who else would like to see a more traditional rpg based subclass?

I know solar, void, and arch are the staple. But what if each class had a subclass playing to their strengths or add new ones. Like Titans gaining an overwhelming boost to their recovery and a melee weapon of some kind like an axe? Maybe more traditional fantasy rpg classes. I know I’ll prolly catch a lot of hate and trolling for asking so I’ll ignore them. Just asking the question. • Bottom line I really think it’s all a money grab. RPGs just don’t generate revenue like shooters. Also competitive shooters are an easier way to come out with new content or in this case recycled content and keep people playing. Companies are more worried about the life of games because making new content costs A LOT of money and wouldn’t you rather spend the minimum to maximize profit? To increase the life of an RPG or MMORPG or MMO Lite designers have to constantly pump new content into the game which costs money (example ESO) and shooters (like cod) only need to come out with a minimal amount of content. Because games like COD (and D2 now) make easier money preying on the competitive nature of humans. CoD puts out a few new maps and a few new guns and BAM the player base is back at top numbers but ESO puts out new content and only the core community benefits it doesn’t really bring in new players. The numbers sadly just aren’t in our favor. And until game creators and publishers can profit from any RPG or RPG variant they will be in decline, end of story. It’s all about the green here boys and girls. The designers and publishers aren’t doing it for their health. Personally I’d rather pay more for a game that delivers more RPG content and less loot boxes and Crucible oriented events. It’s all going to boil down to where we would be willing to pour our money. And who is pouring more narrative and RPG mechanics loving gamers or casuals or sweaty palmed up all night competitive players. I AM NOT DEFENDING THEIR LOGIC!!!!!!!!

The entire game needs an overhaul. There was no excuse at all for it to be dumb down as bad as bungie actually did it. No one can tell me they didn't have 11 years of experience working on this game with 3 years of working on it just to get to where ROI is and knowing they been in business for almost 30 years people. This crap about... "it's a new game" "it's for casual" "Bungie is still learning" BS "they didn't have the resources" "didn't have the manpower" Freaking Blah blah blah. They had 2 other studios working with them and had made billions for the franchise and that is a fact. All that crap and a lot more Bungie fans keep "trying" to use has nothing to do with not knowing what your player base likes or dislikes about the game. I can't stand how clunky the characters feel in D2 knowing how much smoother they feel in D1. I can't stand how everything was cut short. Anywhere from your super to freaking slid on the ground, like I didn't finish it and it was taken from me. Knowing perks are set, there is no gear or weapons that actually compliment one another making any difference with your supers or anything in this watered down dumb down game. And Bungie thinks "Mobility" is something oh so special in this game? lol. It's no different than the stupid Shank Burn everyone "needed" in D1 to run PvE that should have been added to the game like many things that are not added to the game with no questions asked or updates about it. I mean, remove what made D1 unique and "try" to act like adding it later in D2 that it's a grate update so they can pat themselves on the back for doing a half ass job. And "try" to act like it's something special knowing it was already in the game? Get out of here with that BS Bungie... As a Guardian I should feel powerful and have the abilities and (All the necessary means) to complete any task at hand and Bungie fell way short on this with D2. Not that they didn't know what they were doing being in Business for 30 years but what do I know.

      • I was really hoping destiny 2 was going to embrace more on its RPG elements, you know like making Titans true tanks, Hunters as fragile dps monsters and warlock as proper space magicians. Sadly we got a watered down version of a game which was already pretty light on its RPG elements, and is now just a very generic shooter. Out of everything this was the biggest let down for me

      • Sure. Just don't remove the subclasses. The thing that makes Destiny destiny are in fact our supers. Maybe incorporate an axe for a Titan. A staff for a warlock. And glaives for a hunter.

      • I’ve been asking for that since d1 ... the diablo style modular subclasses still werent quite what I was hoping for. But better than what we have in D2.

      • I would love to see more depth! Expand on skill trees from D1, give us more choices as we level up. Make levels matter - so a level 50 guardian has unlocked all skill options and can do more attacks, movements, have more buffs etc. Customization could be huge with this. And make it take a while to get to lvl 50. Took me months to get my first character to lvl 40 in WoW, and then I could get a mount! Add a new subclass since we are essentially playing the same ones in D2 as in D1 (staff vs dagger, flying fire sword throwing vs fire hammer throwing...). What element could that be? Green and black aren't used yet I guess? Green for Earth/nature power, and black for the darkness? Could the darkness corrupt a guardian and turn them? D3? Borderlands 3?

      • Another reason why D2 is so simplified. Don’t get me wrong D1 wasn’t a complete bundle of choices, but atleast sub classes could be optimised how you wanted to play. D2 should have really expanded on this, and we could see some awesome variety of firepower and unique contributions from guardians in different pve situations. Would probably negatively impact pvp, but just keep the current subclass builds for pvp.

        • According to Bungie players are too stupid to understand skill trees. So in order to not overwhelm you they'll keep the 2 choice trees.

          • The more RPG and MMO elements, the better. Dumbing down instead of expanding the RPG and MMO elements are my biggest complaint about D2. They took what makes Destiny such an attractive concept and turned into a run of the mill generic shooter.

          • Yeah... but Bungie removed almost all RPG elements from Destiny 1 for the "sequel". Here's to hoping they relent and add depth.

          • I think almost everyone wants that. However, i doubt we will ever get anything near that. Next game will have one or each weapon type, one subclass with one melee and one grenade. There will be 3 different shaders. There will be no jumping and the cooldowns will be 36 minutes for supers and 12 minutes for grenade/melee.

          • Wont happen. It is to easy to simply over power raid bosses, or rather raid bosses that follow bungies Circle up and do DPS style raid bosses.

Absolutely. When you actually think about how simplified and generalised it is across each of the classes... Why isn’t the warlock throwing a space magic fireball instead of generic grenade effects? Hunter dropping traps or having fast melee (give me kung fu! And not as a super!) I’d love to see hunters hit in quick succession, do less damage per hit but maybe four quick hits gives a kill just faster than the other two classes can etc. So much potential with these but every class feels like it just jumps differently and has a few, tiny specific changes. Between the subclasses themselves... rift, dodge and shield all having the same effects across each element is plain lazy. They should all be completely different from their other subclasses, and miles apart from each class itself. From a distance I see wizard, tank and hunter, up close I see “shooter with fast jump/floaty jump/canardly jump” across the board. I think the creative team need to go check out some neverwinter nights or Diablo for some inspiration.

                  • I think Destiny is better served by staying light on any particular genre - I mean, look at D1, they went overboard on the looter-shooter flavor and now people are losing their minds that it's less that and more RPG. :/ It's not perfect at any of them, nor should it be (those genres can keep their own titles), but it's got a decent balance of all of them, for a mash-up. I do think a little more emphasis on classes in general would be nice - e.g. Titans doing 3x melee damage (to encourage Warlocks and Hunters to stop rushing them in PvP, or just for brawling their way through Strikes), or Warlocks having even more (maybe somewhat-ranged?) healing abilities to lock down mid-map positions as the support/Mage class - but I can also see the issues that would create, especially considering the current player base. Problem is, they already built a lot of diversity and role-based options into the classes - it's just that no one plays them right, and over time they've been watered down to allow players to convolute their roles to feed the PvP-driven meta. Every time I see a Titan with a Sniper, I have to wonder why the hell he's not playing a Hunter; same with a Hunter with an SMG, I have to wonder why he didn't just roll a Titan. Hunters, in particular, are meant to be ranged characters holding down the map positions (or, in PvE, picking off high-level enemies before the Titans can even blindly rush in and clean up adds), but they've gotten greedy and started playing CQ to hog kills, leaving ranged positions and flanks entirely uncovered. Role-based play would slow down PvP, but it would also put an end to the team-shot nonsense - if four Auto players huddle up and walk around a corner, instead of mowing down an entire team they'll find a Titan in their face, Warlocks laying down fire from mid-map on either side (harder to target, especially if at different elevations), and a Hunter planting solid rounds in their heads from far enough back that all those Autos aren't gonna do squat because they can barely SEE him, let alone hit him - THAT is how Invis was supposed to be used, before it became a parlor trick to get melee kills. I already play very role-heavy, on all three characters, and I've long supported the idea of making weapons class-specific - Hunters get Scouts and Snipers (+ HCs and Sidearms, for emergencies); Warlocks get Pulses, Fusions, LFs, and Rockets (in case mid-map gets crowded - or just get rid of Rockets!); Titans get Autos, SMGs, Shotguns, Swords, and GLs. I think, if people would play the correct roles/ranges for their classes, and did it consistently enough to challenge the current run-straight-at-everything meta, Bungie might take notice in all those stats they collect and say "Hey, Hunters aren't masquerading as invisible Titans, let's give them some range buffs," or "Now that CQ is primarily Titans, let's give them some new tools to play with," or "Warlocks are actually playing Support, let's let them heal from a distance and buff Titan recovery in the middle of an engagement." As an RPG player, I would love that! But as long as everyone plays D2 as a CQ brawl simulator in PvP, and compete for "the most kills" with the fastest weapons and always run rockets in PvE, there's no incentive to play the classes as they already exist (which is why everyone ran the same 2 subclass builds in D1 and ignored everything else, all about "optimal performance" or some nonsense), and adding more to that would inevitably lead to another binary meta of everyone doing the same thing (nevermind the PvP mess it would create if Titans got a massive CQ buff - although if they did away with PvP altogether, I'd be fine with it). It's not a bad idea, I see where you're coming from, but this is Bungie - they're the Halo/fantasy FPS guys, let 'em stick to what they know (that's why I bought D2, and why I'm enjoying it for what it is). At this point, if I want a solid RPG, I'll pull any of a dozen or so Bethesda games off my shelf, and have a much more engaging pure-RPG experience. :D
