The special/heavy/ non elemental primary experiment failed.

I think we can all agree these changes were made to improve PvP, yes? I’m assuming the hope was they would boost PvP numbers and the PvE crowd would just roll with it. Well it failed. They didn’t boost PvP numbers, and PvE is less fun, and the players who previously carried this franchise have all left. It was a noble attempt, I disagreed with it, but thought “you never know, might be ok”, but it’s not ok. Change it back, PvE is the bread and butter of this game and should be the focus. If you think this system works in PvE, I’d like to know when the last time you actually used a sniper was? They used to show us graphs with usage of each weapons category (then they’d nerf something into the ground), but if they showed us that graph today I bet sniper usage isn’t even worth registering on the list.   • Leave it the way it is am buff power weapons. Give snipers more reserve ammo in pve and triple the precision multiplier Give shotties more staggering ability in pve and double damage. Give linear fusions more damage and make they do more damage to armored targets etc

      • I like this way more for PvE . I disliked secondary shotguns and snipers. And i think sniper still ranks 2nd lowest. Just above linear fusions....that everyone seems to forget is also a weapon 😁

Less dps allows for more interesting, mechanic driven boss fights that wont need to be bullet sponges and cant be "burned" in 3 seconds. It was the most boring, uninteractive thing to sit behind a rock stunlocking bosses or camping out of range with an icebreaker for hours. Things would need massive overhauls to support snipers in a healthy way. Is the new weapon loadout perfect? No. Did bungie actually take advantage of the new loadout to improve PvE design? Somewhat, but they couldve done better. There are several good ways to improve the weapon loadout, but just purely reverting to the old way is not one of them.

          • Well if they put it back to the old way I’m going to be a shotgun sliding triple jump Hunter in PvP. The invisibility and smoke will help. I’m sure other players will try to come back with some sort of counter but we all know which combinations bring home the bacon. Then we Hunters can troll them in the forums. We can tell them they can’t develop effective counters and aren’t good enough at PvP. Of course all the top PvP players will be shotgun wielding Hunters for some reason.

            • I personally like having two primaries. It's something I wanted for a long time in D1. There's more to it than just "Oh, I don't get to use a sniper like I used to anymore, and that's boring!". Maps and encounters were designed very differently in D1. There was more call for having very long range weapons. In D2, there simply isn't. The majority of the enemies you encounter, are well within scout or less range. Boss encounters aren't designed with stun locking in mind. They've not only removed our specials and shoved them into the power slot, they've also nerfed and ruined them compared to D1. The flinch, sway, and lack of damage that sniper offers now are ridiculous, and would be bad enough if we had them all the time, but the fact that they are now "power" weapons, makes them a wholly unappealing choice. Shotguns have always waffled back and forth from obscurity to relevance, in PvE. Fusions... eh, I was never a fan and didn't use them much so I don't have anything to say about their D1 stats, but it is telling that I'd rather use one in D2 than a shotgun or sniper. The weapons are broken from what they used to be, swords, snipers, shotguns, rockets, all feel WORSE than their worst states in D1. This isn't a problem with the two primary system. This is a problem with the gear.

                    "I think we can all agree these changes were made to improve PvP, yes?" no. I don't agree. I think they were made in an effort to improve the game. And in the second to second gameplay (PvE and PvP) I think it succeeded. To your final point. I never use snipers in D2 and I don't think they are good enough in comparison to the other weapons in the category. In D1 I was forced against my will to use snipers cause if you weren't you were making a mistake. I do use every other heavy weapon class consistently though.

                    The weapon loadout is one of the main reasons why D2 is garbage. The other reason is ability cooldowns that are slow as -blam!-, and skill trees that are garbage compared to D1.

                  • Personally, I would put random rolls and some semblance of a tech tree before this as stuff that MUST return but I think all three need to return at some point. If Bungie were to announce in their next road map that these features were returning, the community would rejoice. This will never happen. Bungie is far too arrogant to acknowledge their failure and will continue to insist their ideas are better while only slowly making their failed ideas only slightly less of a failure.

                    • It failed because half the weapon types are in the heavy slot. 95% of our kills come from primaries. That is not fun.

                      • I've never been a fan of the 'element' class concept. It should just have been an optional mod. Maybe an exotic mod. I was ok with the D1 system.

                        • How to solve the special balancing in PvP while bringing back the D1 system which was more diverse and far more fun while also fulfilling the power fantasy. Shotguns (close range) Snipers (precision, flinch) Fusions (charge time) All have drawbacks that make them good for certain situations. A rocket will always be good for pretty much anything. Clearing mobs, boss dps, yellow bars, etc. Which is why all speedrunners and solid raid groups use rockets, they're the least effort for the max gain. (The only down to rockets is reload which is negated by hunters, titans and warlocks with an exotic) Snipers, shotguns and fusions don't belong in the same slot as something with far easier use and better returns. D1 Primary - mobs Special - yellow bars (or boss) Heavy - boss (or yellow bars) D2 Primary - mobs Elemental - mobs Heavy - yellow bars, boss Vosik is my favorite example. I used Tuonala sr4 for monitors or adds. Void, full auto, final round comedian for captains. Sleeper stim for vosik Or Leathe nobless with reactive/crowd for mobs/monitor Ex machina for vosik Dark drinker for captains Or Touch of malice (armor bubble) for vosik Wotm fusion vs captains or adds to get abilities back Fwc rocket with max blast radius + cluster for monitors, adds or monitor Or Outbreak prime for everything but captains Eierine rr4 with triple tap+casket mag Jlb-42 for captains and surplus for ammo I had a ton of ways to approach the same encounter, I was able to pair my loadouts with armor, subclasses, exotics and make a truly powerhouse build for anything I would face. Unlike D2 where I have a redundant primary and feel a tinge of regret every time I'm forced to use heavy that I need for boss dps on adds or majors. Now about PvP balancing it's easy. Those same power crates? Make them special, same things apply, only one person gets it, everyone sees what they got and where and you can't pick it up under fire. PvP will be primary based with some special thrown in and because it isn't heavy you won't be god-like when you pick it up or defenseless when you're on the other side of it the way power ammo makes you right now.

                            • My power weapon usage looks like this: Rocket Launcher - 95% Telesto - 2% Colony - 1% Auto-shotgun - 2% Sniper - 0% Other Grenade Launcher - 0% Other Fusion Rifle - 0% - Eliminate the "kinetic" category and mix all current kinetic/energy weapons into a single primary slot. - Fusion, sniper, and shotguns need to be moved into the energy weapon slot. - HMGs need to come back in the power weapon slot along with the rocket launchers and I guess the crappy grenade launchers.

                                  • I totally agree, under the D1 system, my typically loadout was: Scout or Auto-rifle as primary, Sniper rifle as secondary and depending on the situation Light Machine-Gun or Rocket Launcher. The only time I use a sniper rifle now is when Devrim's Sniper school challenge is active. Under the new system shotguns, fusion rifles (Standard and linier) and sniper rifles are all but forgotten. Why select one of the aforementioned weapons instead of a rocket or grenade launcher?

                                  • I hate the current weapon system. Hate it. It works, yes, but it works in a boringly designed environment. In Destiny there wasn't any invasion of any enemy special forces yet when it occurs in Destiny 2, all of a sudden we have less fire power to combat this threat? Destroyed in the vault my a**... Seperate PVP and PVE, or make them seperate games, I don't care but it's lame and needs to go.

                                      I still think that the four weapon system would be the way to go. That or do the super complicated route of just making primary only playlists... Like c'mon... it can't be that hard. Every other game has restrictive playlists, and in D1 they were able to 'lock' out weapon slots in the first place (kind of, you just didn't have a weapon at the time, but I'm certain you could add a 'unequip button' in the spirit of that). Of course... they have to actually embrace the idea that not everything can be linearly placed in one neat pile (even thought they've done a great job ripping the story to shreds... I really don't understand why they focus on 'an immersive world' but then Saladin can't even remember my Iron Lord status...).

                                      • The PvP is more entertaining than PVE; I don’t want to kill unpredictable, unintelligent AI with a beefier version of a normal enemy for +1000 times; not to get anything worth while but some damn tokens. I’d much rather kill a guardian and bag ‘em for thinking they could kill me with the Colony
