First off: Bungie, Your gun play is still good. The weapons and core game play are good.
What's not great is your Crucible maps.
For starters, they're all quite flat.
Like, yes there are some raised platforms, but you gave us all movement mechanics and abilities, yet we have no PVP maps that use them. We have all the things we need for vertical fighting, but it's not really a thing we get to do. This lends to maps feeling really same-y and flat, and leads to a lot of game play that doesn't really use the full extent of your mechanics. This would help with Casual and Competitive crowds, and means more situational and tactical awareness is needed as you now can get jumped from above or below.
On the more causal side of PVP, You really need a map where people can use sparrows, Pikes, Tanks, etc. And have the range to use Snipers and Scout rifles with a bit more laxness; More power ammo readily available and the like. Casuals want more stupid fun. A casual player wants more stupid and epic plays per minute, maybe some of those vex rings and jump pads around the map, that sort of thing. Also, you really need a custom game lobby so they can PVP against their friends.
As it is, you have a very limited, linear play path in your Competitive list, which wears people down quickly, and despite marketing to casuals, you have little to keep them playing. I'm only touching on the PVP side at the moment, because trust me, there's a ton to touch on PVE, but I figured I'd touch here first, with suggestions.

The crucible maps are no where near as good as D1.
