Am I the only one completely underwhelmed by Masterworks?

I see posts where people are excited to get them or have gotten the combo they were hoping for and I get it can be fun to get the new shiny item type, but I can't help feeling "this is it?" the entire time. As far as I can tell it's just a small boost to normal weapon stats such as handling, range, etc - and I get that that can be nice, especially on certain weapons, but it just doesn't really seem to compensate enough for the static loot? I just don't see this "fixing" anything. I'm a strong believer that the game will never reach its full potential with all gear being the same, and this just seems like such a minor, trivial change. I don't feel nearly as incentivised to grind (compared to D1) nor do I feel like they are contributing anywhere near what they did before. It just... it seems like the absolute bare minimum possible for Bungie to be able to say "we did something you wanted!". I'm really, really not trying to complain just for the sake of it and I know there are PLENTY of other, bigger issues with the game... it just feels like this was the patch that was meant to fix some of our larger concerns and that it isn't going to do that. It feels like in ten years this franchise will be best when played in reverse; starting with the last game, then this one, and ending with D1. It's crazy that taking that route will actually give you new and more exciting content as you move between games.

I keep seeing people talking about how it's still early, that it's a new system, that Bungie needs time to develop new things... and it REALLY frustrates me. If this were the first game in the series I'd understand, but it's NOT. This is Destiny TWO, and they've HAD the time to think up and develop new things. There's no excuse for it anymore. I grabbed a physical copy of D1 at Walmart today, after not playing it for ages. I got the game, both expansions, and TTK for $20. I logged in and was overwhelmed by the options I had. While the graphics obviously weren't quite as good, everything seemed... brighter. I don't know how to explain it. There was SO MUCH to do that it was almost overwhelming at first! I don't see how I could EVER become as bored with it as I already am with D2. Even when looking at a zone map or walking around a social space, the amount of content is staggering. The fact that so much of this has been lost is unacceptable. Destiny 1 WAS the time to come up with, or even test, new ideas. A game like D2 should have had the best of D1s features with some new ideas and improvements thrown in. The fact that it feels like there is no relavent endgame or reward system when D1 has so much is insane. They either completely screwed up, or they are intentionally lacking in content so that they can sell it to us later as new features; gradually giving us things we already have, things that should have been there at launch, to create the illusion of them constantly giving us new things. Either way, it's not working. So, to everybody out there claiming that we're being too hard on Bungie or are demanding too much, to the ones saying that it takes time for features to be added and then perfected, that we're just being too tough on them, I say this: you're not being tough ENOUGH! They had the full lifespan of D1 to work these things out, and for the most part they already have. They know what we want and for the most part they've already given it to us in the past. I feel like for every 10 posts Bungie sees about the changes we want, it only takes 1 reply with somebody saying things are fine for them to convince themselves they don't really need to change anything. I genuinely feel like the one thing that will stir some change (sooner than later) is community outcry (and the swarm of returns that happened last week), and that people making excuses for them are hurting the one method we have to demonstrate our unhappiness. If you love the game and are having fun and really think nothing needs to change, that's fine, you're more than welcome to voice that opinion... but if that's not the case and you think things need to change, please don't fool yourself into thinking Bungie just needs more time to figure things out and is really trying to give us what we want as soon as possible. There is some reason why they will not give us features we've had before, at least not this early in the game's life. This is an intentional, deliberate thing, and whether it's because of money or an internal content release schedule or whatever else, it's definitely not because they just need time to figure out what they need to do or what we want. Sorry for any typos, typing/posting this from my phone.

    • They drop orbs on multi kills, it’s pretty awesome on one strike I dropped 36 orbs so there were constant supers which to me is better than any exotic perk

          • In this state i think they are a little underwhelming, still cool as a starting point though, would be nice it expanded upon, like getting 1000 kills or whatever with it unlocks another mastwrworks perk slot and another 5000 kills unlocks another slot, that would really start to set weapons apart from one another and you essentially "work" on your favourite weapon and the combinations of stat would have more meaningful changes, seeing a rank on your gun and a reward for investing would go down really well with the community i think! Because realistically random rolls while good, arent going to turn you from a scrub to a crucible god, it was just something to chase. Then you could look at masterworks armour sets that operate in the same way and have increased benefits. if you say had a full set of masterworks armour. , you migh get +5% perk effevtiveness per level. I think these would provide some good grinding and investment into the game!

I can totally see posts on lfg looking for players with MW weapons for the raid and raid lair to be able to use supers more often. In PvP I don't see an exaggerated advantage of having one over the other however it's enough for different styles of play to start emerging. It's a new system and if they leave it as is, yes, it's a completely wasted opportunity because it has the potential to be better. I hope Bungie add more relevant perks to different classes because as of now there are some perks that are useless for certain weapons. Let's give it some time and see what happens. I will end by saying that the ball is definitely in Bungie's court and whether or not they correct their mistakes is up to them. As if now, it's enough to keep me somewhat optimistic because of the promise it offers and I do think that my gameplay has been enhanced enough to want to tinker with the new system for a while

              • Masterworks should have been an additional perk added to the weapon and made everything on the weapon re rollable given you had the materials to do so.... it would give us god rolls and something to fu*king grind for....

              • If anything I want a masterwork version of one of my kinetic weapons just so I can produce orbs for myself. That alone makes it worth the grind. I've gotten a total of 3 MW weapons to drop for me this week, two useless power weapons and a Lincoln green. I broke all of them down for the cores. The power weapons gave me 2 cores each, but the Lincoln green only gave me one. Kinda ticked me off a bit since its not like MW weapons are dropping one after another, why not give 2 cores for all MW weapons? Even at 2 cores a weapon at my drop rate it will take about 2 weeks to break down enough to upgrade one of my non MW weapons... But if some of them only drop 1 core it'll be a month before I can even begin to enjoy the benefits of a MW weapon.

              • I'm starting to believe that the Masterworks thing is the real reason why supers take so long to ready. "Look, these weapons make orbs of light so you can get your supers quicker!!" Yes, well thats all well and good but shouldn't we just be able to get them quicker anyway? The traveler is awake now and did let out a huge blast of light. Surely The Travelers awaking should have inceased our power level to exponencial proportions, speed of charge included. Awake Taveler has to be better than almost dead comatose Traveler.......... right?

                  • What? They are AMAZING! How could you possibly be disappointed?! A raid of people using Masterwork weapons generate Orbs of Light so rapidly on adds that they will be constantly using their Supers. It's nuts! They make this week's Nightfall a complete joke. I've very pleased with the Masterwork concept. It provides a small static advantage but a large PvE gameplay one without breaking the Crucible for people who don't play enough to have them.

                  • I don't know...Better Devils with +10 range against a MIDA in PvP is pretty fun now. In all honesty though, the orb generation on multi-kills is fantastic for PvE, it helps both you and your team generate supers much quicker which is excellent. The stat modification isn't major but it is actually noticeable and feels nice on weapons you use regularly.

                    • They’ve said even before these came along that this was just the beginning and the masterworks system would be expanded on... it’s a good initial step and all those extra orbs are very welcome... Expecting one big fix for everything is unrealistic and likely to take a very long time... small, regular updates are the way to go along frequent updates to what they are working on
