I knew having Luke Smith as the lead designer of Destiny 2 be a bad idea for the game. And his bad attitude has been spread across the development team.
It totally makes sense now, this is why we are suddenly getting lazy updates, and also bad attitude from Bungie. Luke Smith's bad attitude carried over the Bungie team and now this is how they are acting towards the community.
It wasn't like this at all with Rise of Iron. Live team before Luke Smith was excited and full of energy, and willing to make Rise of Iron the best DLC ever.
It is clear now how the attitude of Bungie changed for the worse. I really hope in the next instalment of Destiny 3 that Luke Smith is fired cause clearly he doesn't know what a sequel actually is, or the idea of how to make a great sequel. Seemed he forgot that Destiny 1 ever existed. Listen he only made one raid, one expansion, some stuff on halo back in the day, and only did work on lore etc. The dude doesn't have a big portfolio and it shows in Destiny 2.
I really hope Bungie turns around, finds a better creative lead that is passionate, knows what he or she is doing and [i]cares[/i] about the game they are making.
Firing Luke Smith or making him step down as lead is the one of the solutions for going forward.

False premise. You are assuming that Luke's job is making a good game. It isn't. His job is to make cash for the guys who own Bungie so that they can have nice lives. That's it. Bungie knows that people complain, but pay up, so they see no reason to spend resources changing a game that's a cash cow for them.

I met him and I honestly believe there is nobody who likes him, he is a guy who would get bullied back on so hard in every school, in every job in every group, because he is just flat out a hateful person, that think only about himself and money. He thought he would be golden, big MMO player, reviewer, writer, in the end, he was, no he is the worse thing that could ever happen to the Destiny franchise. The live team now tries to repair the game, but with their speed and hardware they will not be able to fix it before September 2019 and that pretty much means GG, for Destiny and Bungie. One of the most promising franchises destroyed by incompetent people that hopefully never find a job an in the video game industry, because to work there you need passion, you need to it for your players, because you want to give them something amazing, surprising, something without -blam!-ing greed, Luke and when you can do that when your intentions are pure, people will start to throw money at their screen before you know it because you deserve it because you supplied what they want, you lying, scumbag, a piece of shit, from your ivory tower go -blam!- yourself.

20 RepliesLet me go out and say that I absolutely HATE these “fire Luke Smith” posts. They’re a complete short sighted, knee jerk reaction to what’s going on. Luke Smith brought us the Vault of Glass, the first raid in Destiny and arguably the best. Raids were Smith’s baby, and had Destiny 1 launched without a raid or with a boring one, this franchise wouldn’t have gotten far. I’ll say that by directing the Vault of Glass, Smith saved the game. Then he did it again with Taken King, saving a dying game once again by overhauling the game and adding what needed to be added. Taken King was absolutely the turning point for Destiny. Destiny 2 was a disaster, but arguing for Smith to be fired for it is short sighted. He’s not a very good PR person and is inconsistent as a head game director, but he’s capable of delivering quality content and saving the game.

Are you aware of the creative restriction that Activision has over Bungie? Typical knee jerk reaction from the community. You're an asshole. Grow up. I understand there are things that need to be worked on but this game is still amazing in so many ways. Luke does a great job.

By far the worse sandbox patch in the game. People were mad then too. Aot and dawning were the only major updates to the game. People forget. And have no memory generally pretty dumb.

1 ReplyI think it's amazing that Destiny went backwards instead of forwards. Not a Lot of words can express how crazy it is. Destiny 1 one of the best games (in my opinion) EVER! Destiny 2 ??????? Made a Lot of people wonder if this was even the same company! Huge failure after huge failure. Mystifying how you can go backwards so much.

1 ReplyI by no means have any love for or am defending Luke Smith in any way, but Mark Noseworthy is the one that really bugs me. I'm not sure what exactly each one of them is responsible for but eveytime there's an interview I see "Project Lead" under Mark Noseworthy. Again, I don't know like which one of them has more pull or which title comes with more power. But every time I see an interview with them and an important/spoiler type question is asked, Smith always stares at and defers to noseworthy before he adds his 2 cents. It almost seems like he's afraid of him or he knows the answer isn't gonna be well accepted so he wants Noseworthy to take the initial response since Noseworthy is responsible for the ill welcomed answer they have to give. I could be totally wrong but the dynamic that I get from watching those 2 do interviews leads me to believe that Noseworthy has more power over the decisions that are made. Maybe Luke Smith just doesn't know how to spin bullshit, so he lets him go first but I don't believe that. I think Smith can bullshit with the best of them.. But anyways, there's just something that really bugs me about noseworthys patronizing tone he always takes and I 100% think he's responsible for a lot of the "dumbing down" of the game, which he pretty much admits, because he's too dumb to have an in depth skill tree or do anything more than mindlessly shoot aliens with friends. On a final note, I just think people should cool down a bit on their hatred for Luke Smith. Im not saying he's completely blameless but I do think the fault should lie on others as well... Namely Mark Noseworthy lol. Idk what it is but watching and listening to that guy just bugs the shit outta me. Like he's the ultra casual gamer making huge decisions about a game that shouldn't be casual.

Not at all Luke Smith is the only one who can fix this shit show he pulled d1 out of shit and he will do the same with d2. I can promise you the guy is hurting and is the most passionate when it comes to destiny and i promise you he will make his feeling known through actions wait and see. At the end of the day because of luke all is not lost with destiny.

As a result he’s the only guy at Bungie where I’ve never had to roll my eyes and think, “He doesn’t even understand his own game. 3. He is a well-known World of Warcraft player. So the things that people are pissed off about, didn’t come from him. 4. If you want some one to blame, then blame the Sandbox team and the suits in the executive suites. Jon Weisznewski’s determination to recreate Halo’s MP in the Crucible was the source of the power drain that has dogged pve play.... and the weapon system and fixed gear rolls that are frustrating pve players in D2. Blame the suits because they are allowing this to happen and I guarantee you they were behind the pvp focus of this game. Probably in pursuit of MLG dollars and E-sports.

Lol you already thinking about d3? If they don't fix d2. They will have a bad time launching d3. Luke Smith should have been fired long ago...or given a new promotion. Have him posted in front lobby of every bungie fan event so we can nut on his face prior to disappointing announcements. I also think they recycle their own piss at bungie head quarters. Jason Jones needs to bear the blame too - after all, he sold out the premise of Destiny for Activision's wads of cash! (Activision tried to buy Bungie in 2000, but luckily Microsoft offered them the chance to develop for the original XBox) Let's hope that Sony hire Hideo Kojima, Joe Staten, Marty McDonnell and the team behind Dead Space ( the now defunct Visceral - with Scott Probst and Amy Hennig), maybe buy Digital Extremes and take the Warframe team, steal the coders who build the FPS gun/movement mechanics at Bungie Throw money at them and say 'build a true Sony IP - a MMO FPS loot game - 'a Destiny/Division killer' - massive spec, proximity chat, continuous evolving worlds, with depth of story, balanced separation of PvP and PvE gameplay, a learning curve that slowly takes you on a roller coaster ride .....Where you can see you CAN go! (And lost in game world you will be!) Dedicated servers, etcetc..... for PS5/6.....Light em up! Edited to add Naughty Dog to this 'what could be' team
